Hey Hollis, thanks for your videos. I was at Lowe's the other day and remembered your videos, so I bought two bags of Black Cow soil to give it a try, I sifted the bags and compared the amount of wood chips to the competition, and Black Cow soil had less wood chips, so I was pleased with that, also it seemed darker and if I remembered correctly I liked the texture as well. Very seldom these advertising ads work with me, but the product spoke for itself, thanks Hollis, may the Lord Jesus continue blessing you!

Love patotos! If you plant a couple of five gallon buckets then plant two more in a month. Keep on doing two buckets every month you will have a harvest all year long. Plenty to eat use for seed and bless others. Just a thought from someone from patoto county in northern Maine. Unfortunately we can only get one harvest a year due to weather conditions. Nothing like taking patotos from the field wash (the skin comes from just from washing no effort involved) and cooking them immediately! Delishesness!!!!!!!! Love your homestead and I have to admit I am very jealous of your weather. So sick of cold and snow and it's only February three more months to go!!!! 😪😢😭

This year I'm going to grow my potatoes and containers 20 lb bags. I love black cow and jungle growth. I always had a wonderful Harvest of everything that I injured myself in 2009 and I wasn't able to get to the ground to take care of my vegetables seven. So I'm going to try those 20 lb bags I'm going to get about maybe 10:15 of them and get myself growing again. I love your videos they help me out a lot. Have a blessed day God bless everyone

One question for really small size seed potatoes is a 2 1/2-3 gallon container large enough to grow potatoes in? They don’t weigh as much for this old lady, they don’t take up as much space and cost less than half the price of the 5 gallon size. I am growing my potatoes in 5 gallon buckets set in 42" Kidde pools filled with wood chips I wrapped the pool in 2x4x36" wire fencing and I draped clear plastic over the fence to get two layers of plastic around the sides. I drape another sheet of plastic over the top of the fence on freezing nights. I secure the top plastic sheet with spring clips I bought at the Dollar Store to keep the top plastic from blowing off. This has worked well without extra heat down into the 20s. The 42" Kidde Pool will hold up to seven 5 gallon buckets. One in the center and six around it. The fencing helps to keep critters out of my pots and helps to keep wind from knocking my plants over. I drilled holes around the bottom of the Kidde pool for drainage. If it ever get down in the teens I have an idea to turn the center bucket upside down and set a crockpot full of sand on top of it. Set at low heat that should be plenty of heat on the coldest night I am likely to get where I live. I am thinking about using wire tomato cages to protect my plants from wind and critters. Potato don't like temps below 40 degrees so I put a wireless indoor/outdoor thermometer in one of the pools so I can keep an eye on temps. I plant five buckets a month for succession harvests. So far, so good.

Is there a reason you don't reuse the good soil mixtures for other crops after you harvest the potatoes? Love your videos.

If I remember right, he re-uses all his soil, I think he said he added the spent soil to the tops of the plants to bring the soil level to the top of the bucket. He has a video on how to build a soil box, I think it's called a Reclaim Soil Container. I have been using mine for about 3 years now. After the growing season, I dump my "spent" soil in my box and reuse use it next season for top-offs. You still need to amend it with all the "goodies".

Hey Hollis. Thank you for all you and Nancy teach us. I just have a quick question. There are a few potato planting videos now. One uses top soil, peat and black kow. Another uses peat, potting mix and black kow. Is the latter the preferred mix now or does it depend on the variety of potato you’re planting?

Years ago I used the cheapest top soil I could find. It worked fine for a while but I noticed all the top soil kept getting worse and worse. The last few bags I opened were basically nothing but wood chips. At that point I switched over to potting mix. It was a lot better but it can be hit or miss as well. Sometimes the bags look very good and rich and other times they are mostly peat. Anyway, when I don’t like the way the potting mix looks, I add another bag of black Kow to get the texture I’m looking for

I just recently started watching your channel. I have learned so much! I just went to the local AG store and bought Yucon gold seed potatoes. I would like to start planting them this weekend. I know this is a silly question, but what do I do now that my bag of potatoes are home? Do I take them out of the bag or do they stay in there until I am ready to put them into their containers. Thank you so much for your wealth of information.

Once you harvest them how do you store them. I am new to all this I am looking for help. When do you pla t what fertilizer a d added vitamins or what ever to help

That’s how I like those potatoes - little boilers & creamers. I’ve seen you get MUCH bigger harvests - but if they’re tasty, it’s just fine!

They are very tasty. Yes, not my best harvest at all. Hoping this year will have a better yield
