I use the Hollister 8901 with the CeraRing Skin Barrier 8805, I love it and it is cut to fit, I have no problem with the fabric I use your hack, thank you, I use Hollister because some of the other companies I have tried my skin doesn't like, I have a small frame but the size doesn't bother me, can't tell it is larger after I put it on. Love your videos, thank you, I have learned so much.

Oh wow, I may like this. I’ve not yet tried a one piece, mainly because my stoma is oddly shaped..but this does have a larger wafer that would work for me. I use now the basic 2 piece that you had worn in the past. It does well for me. This though does have its advantages for sure! I will give Hollister a call for a sample bag Tuesday. Thank you Eric, as always...love and appreciate you!

Love the appliance reviews even though we have different kinds of stoma. I have a loop ileostomy so I have an annoying nub at the bottom of my stoma (apparently it is the other dormant end of the intestine). Makes it a pain to tightly fit around it especially with one piece units. My Ostomy Nurse suggested some tips for this type of outlet closure. She pinches it open to crease it , then she cuts a small v-notch on one side. Much less likely to stick closed when you have thicker output
@VeganOstomy

+nexusvideo Yes, definitely crease it! I do it all the time and that's more than enough to make it work properly 😂

Hi Eric, thank you for your review. I’m using the Hollister Cera Plus one piece convex since October and I’m really very happy with it. I’ve tried the soft convex version but went back to the hard type. I agree with the problems that you mentioned, but I feel very safe with this appliance. Keep all the good work and thanks again. Have had major skin problems due to leakage. Stoma is a little lower on one side, which has caused most of the leakage problems. Also, it doesn't protrude as much as other stomas. The ostomy nurse used the Adapt Cera Ring (Slim) with the one piece 8960 12 inch Care Plus Drainable Pouch (Premier series) with filter and window. So far this is working really well. Trying to get use to the drainable system, fold and lock. I had a clamp system with Convatec two piece for quite a long time. One other plus is that you don't need skin wipes or a protective skin wipe, just wash and clean. Hollister does not want you to use them with the Cera Plus. This may be my answer to my skin problems.
@VeganOstomy
@VeganOstomy 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Edward, have you ever been asked to use convex wafers? They tend to help when the stoma isn't sticking out much. And yes, it's best to avoid barrier wipes when using certain wafers (especially extended wear) because they will interfere with the adhesives. Best of luck!

I'm glad you mentioned wear time. I'm about a month and a half in with a new temporary ileostomy from the first half of j-pouch surgery after having had one for a year and a half. The SenSura Mio 1 piece I used was great for my skin up until now because of the irregular downward slanting nature of my new stoma. The output is high with even less of my intestines available to contain output meaning I've only been able to get at most 2 days out of the SenSura Mio due to break down. I read that the premiers have flextend skin barriers that are made for ileostomy and urostomies. My hope is these will help me get close to the 6 day wear time I once had. Even 4 days would be great since I don't have a lot of money to burn through these pouches.
@VeganOstomy

Best of luck! Downward stomas do tend to reduce wear time, but it will be interesting to compare the Premier to the Mio.

@@VeganOstomy Thanks. I know it's a bit late to reply but I wanted to give it some time before sharing in case anyone comes by this comment. I found it does hold up a bit better than the mio. Ultimately in my situation it wasn't enough on it's own but it has helped stabilize things when combined with stoma paste. I'd still recommend the Mio to anyone with an optimal or close to it stoma since it treats the skin underneath better in my experience and sticks just as good.

I LOVE the Sensura MIO, but I get leaks from the wafer. The adhesive has no RESISTANCE, so effluent spreads immediately through the wafer, giving a leak right on to clothing. I wish this Cera bag by Hollister was made from the MIO material.

Hollister 2pc drainable is what I use. I have an allergy to adhesives. But, I have found that if the adhesive in the center is dark. The better the wafer sticks all the way around. The lighter the adhesive in the center. The outer part of the wafer starts coming loose. This is an observation over 2 years.

Vegan Ostomy I brought this to the attention of Hollister reps at Relay for Life. I never knew about my allergic reaction to Tegaderm and adhesives until after getting my ostomy. So it was trial and error finding the right product. Even though I prefer styles from other manufacturers. They have yet to change the chemical makeup of the adhesive. After speaking with various makers. Hollister informed me that they are geared to create adhesives that are allergy friendly. And I have very, very little Koebner reaction with their products.

I just started wearing this pouch...I had another operation so I now need a Convex system and I like the paper on the side so ....I'm also having a hard time draining..... ...i might call about the Sara plus pouch.....I had another operation and have been wearing a convec typ Belt with 4 places to hook the belt in.....I've had my ostomy since 91.. Usually have gotten a ice Bu cket from a Hotel...get two of them and I get the bags from the vegetable section and thier FREE...I JUST DUMP THEN....clean..... With the colon Mia and the opening is saying and stay open while you're Cleaning.....I got rid of the gas port..... But the thing I don't like is the plastic backing where you are supposed to cut.and then it's hard to handle....and I like the 4 holders where the belt clips to..... I don't like the air discharge but I do like the velcrow for closing....I'll probably go with the mio... instead of the Hollister.... All this is temporary because the doctor SCREWED ME UP....and I'm going to have another fun summer ban on assult weapons

Hi Eric.......I’ve actually had the outlet on these ROLL DOWN !! When the outlet has not been “tucked-up”, the outlet end can rub on clothing as you move and CAN roll-down!! You have to take great care making sure the “velcro” is pressed VERY securely together. I love this bag....but I HATE the opening, which I also find is quite difficult to keep clean. It’s not a patch on the Sensura Mio excellent Opening. Also, as you commented....the outer material IS poor quality. This Holister Ceraplus flange on the Sensura Mio would be my holy grail bag. I still wear Hollister bags, but the clear type so there's no front fabric. It still has the cheap fabric on the back, but it's far less of an annoyance than the cheap front fabric. To cover the bag, I'll use a pouch cover, StealthBelt, or other accessory like that. It really would be nice if Hollister could just improve the fabric, though. LOL

Thank you Eric for a great review. I have a fistula scar directly below where the bottom of my flange adhesive sticks so I struggle with large flanges as the adhesive tends to interfere with the scar and irritates that area Luckily for me the small Dansac one piece is better for me ie the adhesive doesn’t go that far down.. Just this week I sent for new one piece by Pelican with slatted adhesive but it was too far down the fistula scar ,there’ adhesive has a vitamin E Been impregnated into the adhesive hence why I tried it. Unfortunately. My fistula scar dips in which makes it awkward. Ty again 😊🇬🇧

Eric......just a quick solution / tip for you (and other folks) who have trouble with the time this bag (or any material covered bag) takes to dry when just taking a shower........use an elasticated-edged shower cap. It takes a few seconds to pop it on. If you shop around, you can buy non-bulky ones that are fairly thin and soft....these are the best type - and you can use them again and again. I've got one I've been using over a year and it's still like new. I pop it in the washer from time to time, but you don't need to do this, as your final rinse in the shower cleans the cap anyway. Hope this helps.........Teddy UK xx

The Hollister 2pc with CeraPlus has been my go-to appliance for a very long time. I get consistently long wear time (5-7 days) and I don't recall when I last had a leak. The thing with CeraPlus (which does apply to other appliances, but more so with this) is that you have to give your skin more time to adjust to the adhesive, so trying it out for a week likely won't be enough. I found that it worked better for me the longer I used it.

Thank you Eric, for all of your product reveiws it really helps. One thing about this product, Did you find it also difficult to use this especially when putting some lubricating deodorant inside the pouch. I find it hard to spread all the content because of the opaque cover they use in the pouch.
@VeganOstomy
@VeganOstomy Жыл бұрын
Hi Jay. The way I find easiest is to squirt some into the pouch and then close the outlet. Then I'll use a "squeegee" motion using two fingers and the bag between the two, to move the lubricant upwards. Then for the top half of the bag, I'll try to work the lube over and around the stoma. I hope that makes sense 😂

Hi Kebir. Do you have a colostomy or ileostomy? Were you eating regular meals during that time, or did travel cause you to eat less? When you had output on the 5th day, was it very liquidy or different from normal? There could be several reasons, but as long as things have returned to normal, there should be no major cause for concern. It's good that you've been speaking about this to your doctor. 👍

Thank you so much for all the details and explanation. My dad is going to have surgery soon. And I'm so lost researching on this topic. How often do you change the bag if it is 1 piece system? Is it 1 time used only because I find the price is quite expensive for disposable? and regarding 2 pieces system, what size should I buy for flange size. My dad is living back home so I want to choose the right products for him while currently living in Canada. Thank you so much, any clarification would help.
@VeganOstomy
@VeganOstomy 3 жыл бұрын
Hey "big belly", thanks for wriitng. A few things: how often to change an appliance will depend on a LOT of factors, but with experience, it becomes pretty easy. I do have a video that might help to give you some direction in that regard: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIaknYxpqrRnl6c If your dad lives in Canada, depending on the province, he may be able to get some grant money or reimbursements for his supplies. This article should give you some other ideas to help with costs: www.veganostomy.ca/ostomy-supply-costs-canada/ Regarding flange size, it would depend on the size of his stoma. Most manufacturs will have a size range for each flange. As long as his stoma isn't too large or too small for the size range, he should be fine. That said, it's important to know whether he needs a flat or convex wafer and his stoma nurse should be able to help with that. Usually, if the stoma is sticking out from the skin, a flat wafer will be idea. If the stoma is flush or recessed, then a convex wafer will usually the needed. There are different levels of convexity, so again, a nurse will help determin which is most appropriate. Good luck with everything! Your dad is lucky to have you.

I have a problem with the bag coming loose from my skin and leaking. One day it came loose about 7 times using 7 rings and 7 bags. I could just walk out of bathroom to the front door and it would start leaking. I'd go to store and it came loose. I don't feel safe to leave house. I even use extra tape to hold it on and it will leak underneth the tape. When I wear a cover on it it feels like its gonna pull the bag off. How do you rear a bag under your jeans with out smashing the bag against my stoma? Doesn't the stop the stoma from working? I don't like hearing the bag like I have a plastic bag on and it krinkles and makes noise? I only had this 2 months and hate it ! I haven't tried the 2 piece yet cause i dont know how to put on. Are u still suppose to put a ring on with them ? I'm just so confused about these things. The problem I have is keeping them on and not coming loose and leaking. There's only been about 3 or 4 times they've stayed on for mor than 3 days at a time. That gets pretty expensive going threw 4 to 7 bags in a day. Insurance only covers 20 a month
@VeganOstomy
@VeganOstomy 3 жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry that you are going through that, Karen. When an appliance isn't able to stick well, especially that often, I would look at what kind of skin care products you're using. Do you use anything on your skin, especially before applying your wafer? Are you using soaps, conditioner, shampoo, skin creams, that contain moisturizers? These may be problematic. If your skin is in otherwise good health, that's where I'd start. It may also be helpful to speak with a stoma nurse just to make sure that your technique when changing your appliance isn't creating opportunities for leaks. Good luck!

I'm sorry to hear that, Maureen. I've been using Hollister 1pc appliances almost exclusively over the last 2 years and my wear time is often no less than 7 days. What I've been doing with my appliance changes is to clean my skin with a gauze pad that has either 50% or 70% Isopropyl alcohol on it, then heat up my wafer (by rubbing it between the palms of my hands), then I apply it. But leaking after a day is likely not related to skin prep. Do you only have issues with this appliance?

What tape would you recommend to cover the filter since Hollister does not provide filter sticker covers? Thanks!
@VeganOstomy
@VeganOstomy Жыл бұрын
Depends on whether I plan to uncover the filter or not. Most nonporous tape should work just fine. You don't have to go out of your way to buy special tape. But if you get leaks through the filter, or it clogs too frequently, and don't want to deal with that, I'd suggest going with a non-filtered version. I've been wearing this appliance without a filter for years now, but I believe the non-filtered version is only available in their clear bags.

I'm assuming the comparatively low durability of Hollister is the bag not the flange. Do you think it's the plastic material or is it the thickness of the plastic?

It's actually not the plastic that's the problem with Hollister bags, but the fabric that covers the plastic is often less durable compared to other brands I use. The bag itself is quite good and very reliable.

Hey Eric! I use a Hollister 1piece, the new ceramide premier flextend soft convex, drainable pouch; cut to fit Reference #8674. My stoma is 3/4 inches (19 mm) after 3 month post-op end ileostomy. I find without a flat stomach & extra scars from other surgeries, and I always notice sometimes the pouch adhesive comes apart at the top. Does that just means it’s time for a change? How do you know when it’s clogged? Sorry, new ileostomate 😆 only 3 months out. I wish they had a model without the paper tabs, they irritate my skin!! How do you wear it horizontal? My stoma is very close to my groin, and sometimes gets stuck there. Any ideas to prevent this?

Hey Amanda! Let me try to answer as many questions. How long do you wear the appliance before the edges peel? It can be a sign that you should change it, but it can also peel for other reasons. Clogged filters generally leak (from the filter), but before that they simply don't work and your bag will have gas in it. I do have a video about wearing my bag sideways along with a few reviews showing how it goes on like that (see my reviews for the StealthBelt). To keep the bag away from your groin, angle it when you put it on so that it's pointing away. This shouldn't interfere too much with emptying the bag, but it will be more comfortable 😀

Id love to use a one piece but am not sure how because i need to shimmy/pull the stoma through the wafer, as well as see the placement as im putting it on, and those don't seem possible with a one piece. Any advice for putting it in?

The inspection window on this 1pc makes it just as easy to put on as a 2pc =)

It bends, so I line the opening up below the stoma, then could lay it down from there with my eyes closed. Good product for “outies”. Haven’t used the view option at all for changes.

Hi Eric do they have non drainable pouch?

They do have closed pouches for both 2pc and 1pc systems, but not a 1pc closed pouch with ceraplus. I believe their Premiere line offers it.

How do I seal the bottom part?
@VeganOstomy

This appliance uses a pretty easy to close outlet. You basically roll the end up until you reach a velcro-like flap, and then secure it by pressing down on it.

I need a bit of help. I usually wear the mio light convex, I love the mio it’s been my everything from day one, but my skin is tearing up because I’m dropping like 60+ pounds and I’m having to switch wafer types as I go. I started wearing the Cera+ and my skin has never looked better. But I hate all the other, draining open leaking, filter clogging, the bag sags after a bit and loses shape, and takes forever to dry. I have a love hate relationship. Do you have any recommendations. Or tips because I literally have never hated a bag til this situation and I’m so frustrated. 👀🥺

I feel your frustration! Unfortunately, you won't have many options in the Hollister line. Do you have an option to switch back to the Mio now that your skin is better?

Hey Michael. There are 11 different SKUs for this product in Canada and around 30 in the US. The specific one I'm using is 8901, but it may not be appropriate for everyone (hence the reason for so many different SKUs). I hope that helps.

The problem is the opening on the bottom. It is not worth it to me to struggle very time I open to clean.

Michael......do as Eric suggested by forming a firm crease in the opening on the new bag before putting it on. A nurse also suggested cutting a small "V" out on ONE side edge of the opening...the crease fold works for me.
