yup, the amount of RNG involved in some of these boss is ridiculous, and are made worse when some of this boss' moves require commitment from the part of the player for a dodge, while the boss' move can be cancelled or switched at any given FRAME, is luck through and through. And the developers seem to even acknowledge that since this kinda fight is on the dream world, so that they are feasible on steelsoul mode (deathless playthrough).

@@analoganalysis4854 Just because even the best players can fail, a lot, even, doesn't mean the boss is composed or RNG, I've beaten every boss on radiant, and a lot of other people have, but that doesn't mean I or they (I mean there are definitely people that can, but I wouldn't say most, no) can consistently beat every, or even half of these bosses on radiant (well, I've been doing some charmless so now with charms I might at least do so for those), because eventually you'll just make a mistake, if Zote was truly an RNG based fight, I wouldn't have gone from beating Zote 10 in a couple tries, to beating Radiant Zote first try (again, not sure I can still do that, but since I had fought Zote plenty of times earlier that day, it wasn't very hard to do it again hitless, especially since Godhome Zote has 100 less HP). This isn't to say that there is no RNG in any of Hollow Knight's bosses, of course, there definitely is, but they aren't defined by it, that is, even with the worst possible rng it's not inhuman to get through, and I do have in mind the Absolute Radiance here (while it is possible to get into a near undodgeable attack combination, that's only depending on what you did before, getting into the very undodgeable attack combination is preventable, is the thing here, after some point of fighting AR, I only ever saw one of those like twice with the ceiling spears, and I'm prone to making really dumb mistakes)... Markoth, though, can just spawn a nail below you on the moment you hit him from his side and you die immediately; if he spawns a nail below you it's at least _possible_ to Shade Dash away and take no damage, but if you hit him when it happens you'll just die in the air, and he's already the hardest boss to hit in the game, why? Just why? Oh and except for the zotelings, they're just added onto any other attack he can do, it is possible to deal with all of them immediately, but if you don't it's either harder but entirely possible to get through without taking a hit, or near impossible because Zote is wildly swinging his nail chasing you while volatile zotelings exploded and there's two flying zotelings after you... Unless you use Descending Dark, since it's so good. Oh aalso, if you bounce off of Zote when he's running swinging his nail wildly, it's possible for him to get staggered and hit you, not impossible to dodge with Shade Dash and depending on where you are it won't hit you at all, but I still hate that he's knocked upwards like that.

Out of the millions of people who bought the game, we know from the steam achievements that there is like half that didn't even finish the game. We also know that less than 1%(if remember right) have done the pantheon of Hallownest, and I expect that even less people did every boss on radiant. So I'd say that a few thousand at most actually accomplished that. As for the RNG topic, I mean, literally every single boss in Hollow Knight has some, since the order of attacks is random. But then some bosses have attacks with random elements to them, or even worse can almost do two attacks at once(ex:AR)

Two extra things is that while all Radiants was obviously considerably harder than PoH, by the time I beat it it didn't seem unfathomable or anything, it felt pretty in reach because of how good the game forces you to be to actually beat it; when I first heard of Radiant fights, I was certain I would never do the vast majority of them, that was just ridiculous, but afterwards, it simply didn't feel that way. The other, is that if someone endured the grind enough that they would actually beat PoH, I think often enough they wouldn't find it unreasonable to finish the Hall of Gods too, even if they're not a total completionist, after all it was the same process for me at least. Oh and I guess I see people having newly completed the Hall of Gods relatively often but eh.

I initially found Zote to be at least somewhat charming, a deluded fool who thinks himself a hero, but then it turned into disdain for the pitiful sap as he slanders you at every turn and steals glory at every opportunity he gets like the worm he is, never able to obtain any real glory for himself. All stemming from the fact that if you never lend him a hand he dies a shameful death at the hands of an oversized bug while you go on to challenge actual gods.

Even if you spare him, he'll stay in the same place as always while The Knight fights more tougher goes that can crush Zote with one blow. Even Bretta leaves him and moves on with her life, which is a better outcome than staying with a self glorified cretin who repeats himself and has been the punching bag throughout the game. All I can say is good bye Zote, I'm fighting demons and Gods and he does nothing. The only thing you'll miss out if you leave him to die is his boss battle, both the real him and "dream" self.

No charms? Have to hand it to you - dope. No charge hits either - all calm, collected smackdown. Well done man. This is my least favorite boss in the game. You got some pretty nice RNG here but I can only imagine the crazy pains you went through to eventually cap this, so I don't count that as a knock. I don't have anywhere near the patience or desire lol. Volatile + Shadow Slam was my worst enemy during the fight. I love basically everything about this game aside from this boss, and the final section of the Path of Pain (the rest of it was annoying but not like, crazy - but for some reason the final section just...man. Not the Kingsmould at the end either, they were nothing. Just the section leading to them). Aside from those two blemishes, it's probably one of my favorite games of all time.

I actually thought the fight at the end of the Path of Pain was the worst part. I didn't equip any combat charms because I was expecting a platforming challenge, then I got my adrenaline up because I finally made the insane bounces I needed to do (which I didn't even know were possible until I snuck a peak at a KZbin video)... only to be dropped into a small room with guys that... aren't that difficult, but I'd only faced 2 or 3 of them, had never fought 2 at a time before, they don't respawn so I can't go back and practice their patterns, and they were easy enough as singleton enemies that I killed them before getting a sense of what they actually do. So I just got killed immediately and had to go back, not to the beginning of the last platforming section, but the beginning of the entire Path of Pain (and yes, I know there's a shortcut but it doesn't skip any of the hardest parts). The second try, I even dashed into the spikes on the wall when I got to 2 hp, hoping to just go back to the start of the last room, but it still respawned me in the fight and I died again. That's a huge fuck-you after putting in a ton of effort.

@@ActionPackedJack Yeah, I actually mentioned the Kingsmould because I know a lot of people died to them and, like you, had to do the whole path again. I killed them on the first try getting to them, my charm setup is pretty vanilla anyway (I don't use things like Quickslash or Long Nail/Mark of Pride because I feel like those kinds of charms make me worse at the game, even though I'm doing better - a crutch, basically) I just basically add to things that are able to be added to anyway despite a cap. So I'll use Unbreakable Strength for example because I just see it as sort of another upgrade to my nail (like the Nailsmith ones), and Shaman Stone because it's pretty much the only Magic Damage upgrade available so, why not. Probably the only stretch I use is Sharp Shadow because it just feels too cool dashing through an enemy and slashing them at the same time, and I like Weaversong for the company, lol (and Grubsong makes them useful). But as for the Knight himself, I was already used to fighting things with a basic "stat increase" charm setup and didn't really have to change that for Path of Pain (Sharp Shadow probably made it harder to be honest). EDIT::: I do have to add one more thing now that I think about it. The game does have a third blemish for me not mentioned in my original post, and it's the very reason why I probably didn't really like the final 'platforming' stretch of the Path of Pain: I absolutely cannot stand the way the Monarch Wings work. Every single action in the game is instant, immediate motion and feedback (minus charge stuff, obviously) - from the dash to the slash to the basic jump. But the Monarch Wings...for some reason decide to add weight to a bug? I mean have you ever seen a fly struggle to take off? Hell no! That thing vanishes the second it wants to. Even heavier bugs like certain beetles can take off pretty quickly (although they generally suck at maneuvering). So why do the Monarch wings have a dip during the animation that even halts your ascent if you press it while still moving up during your initial jump? It makes no sense thematically, no sense mechanically, etc. and a lot of my fails were due to that, especially the very last part where you have to dash under the spike wall through the saws and immediately double jump on the other side to pogo off the other saw (right before the Kingsmould pit)... so many times that animation dip would put me in the spikes after dashing under the wall there, and I'd have to redo it. It was also a pain with the spikes that jut up out of the ground that you have to pogo, because of their awkward timing in conjunction with the Monarch Wing delay.

@@ActionPackedJack Basically, the safest way to fight the kingsmoulds is to spam desolate dive while you're standing near one or both. You'll get invincibility frames and do a great deal of damage. You're going to want to refill your soul anyway every time you die to the final platforming challenge so you'll have plenty of soul to at least finish one of them before they can do too much damage. Once one of them is gone, the second one is a piece of cake. They basically ruined 4 hours of my time by killing me the first time around, and I wasn't going to go through that shit again the second time around. I don't care if desolate dive is cheese. Kingsmould rng is unfair to the player anyway, so screw them. Edit: changed "infinity" to "invincibility". Must have been late when I wrote that.

Tbh GPZ gives some False Knight vibes, even with the attacks. They're just nobody weaklings trying to make themselves grand and powerful. Atleast the Maggot could kill things. Zote was only dangerous in an insane fan girl's dream. I went in for the first fight and face tanked him till death. I tried doing that the second time but failed. I decided I wasn't going to waste anymore time on him and went to do other things.

Idk about you guys but 1:58 something weird happens. Theres a few frames missing. Whenever I hit zote with a downward slash on his last health, he pops up and slams into me and I lose shell. This has happened without fail about 5 times because I'm a slow learner. So IDK why it didn't happen here.

I beat NKG in under 2 hours. Each attempt I felt like I was improving bit by bit. NKG's fight was one of the best moments in the entire game for me. Today I finally reached GPZ's 10th battle. I had to cheese my way through 8th and 9th fights using Fury of the Fallen and different Lifeblood Charms in order to be able to get my health to 1 mask. Unfortunately, I can't get the right amount of masks to use Fury on his 10th fight. I've fought all bosses in this game besides special ones from pantheons 3-5. And this boss is definetely the hardest and the most unfair boss out of all of them. I've fought him SO MANY times and I still feel like I haven't improved even a little bit. I love this game from the bottom of my heart but I absolutely despise Zote and his BS of a dream fight. There is no learning in this fight, no improving. No amount of god tier reaction time on your part can help you in this battle. His attacks are just way too random to be able to properly react to them. For example, when he does his long falling attack, sometimes he falls in the oposite direction of where you are going, some times he falls right on you so the only way to dodge is to dash. But sometimes he predicts you and falls right on the place where you dash to, making the attack undodgeable. This dude had so many close calls in this video that now I am absolutely sure that this boss is purely luck based. The only thing I learned from this video is that I can hit Zote's white ghosts to move them away from me. Other than that I've been doing everything exactly like this guy.
