Should've mentioned that as soon as you down either boss, if you just jump behind them you can freely hit his armour to reset his stagger and he won't get up until a certain amount of time passes. Every time you hit his armour, the stagger resets and he's effectively locked in place allowing you to fill up the soul guage. Then you hit him with 2 howling wraiths as he jumps back to centre
