As an og hollow knight player having played for like 3-4 years, you did suprisingly well on this like really good job. Hollow knight is a metroidvania and really hard to speedrun because of how large it is so just awesome job all around (plus you are goated)

They usually are pretty hard,l tbh. He just took a beginner route. The current any% nmg route uses shade skips and pretty precise and stupidly hard to learn platforming glitches. The 112% nmg route is nothing but pain, and the any% with glitches is just visual aids istg

Maybe it’s not as hard on the version he is playing on, but I did my runs on a Nintendo switch originally, and CurrentPatch bosses are generally harder and so is explosion-pogo and some other stuff

Hey! Awesome to see someone running my favorite game! You mentioned not knowing how the Uumuu AI works, so I thought I'd give you a short summary: For the first cycle (when Uumuu initially spawns), it's going to give you 3 attacks. After the third attack, it'll check how much distance it's traveled, and if it's more than a certain amount (which I believe is RNG), it'll move slowly and Quirrel will slash it to expose its core. If it's traveled less than the required distance, it'll queue up another attack (we just call them "extras"). After an extra, Quirrel is guaranteed to slash Uumuu to expose its core. Note that Quirrel slashing Uumuu doesn't actually damage it. Any subsequent cycles work the same way, except that Uumuu will make the check for an extra attack after 2 attacks instead of 3. Fun fact: with optimal any% equipment, a 2 cycle is the minimum number of cycles required for a kill. It's super cool to see top-level runners fight Uumuu. They have setups and planned reactions for every single attack pattern, so I would highly recommend checking them out if you haven't already!

Hollow Knight Speedrunner here: quick tip, switch to Chinese in the game menu, it makes mashing a lot faster. There’s of course a lot of other stuff you should do, like double dash mantis pogo, blue lake wcs, pogo cycle wk, optimal cdash cycle, Uumuu extra attack recovery and optimal Uumuu damage cycles, QGA and QG route, proper stalking devout strats, faster THK, etc., but that’s the main starter tip :) Second most important suggestion is to learn QGA and QG route, then practice the bosses (especially WK and Uumuu).

actually, the vengeful spirit hitbox gets stuck at the edge of the screen, which is directly on top of the baldur's hitbox, causing the baldur to get hit multiple times. if youre too close or too far away, the spot where it gets stuck wont be on top of the baldur.

4:25 That Elder Baldur dies to a single Vengeful Spirit because in early versions, VG was becoming suspended for a moment after leaving the screen - this meant that it was able to deal several "ticks" of damage during that time. And the set-up with approaching and then retreating from the Elder Baldur loaded it in but then placed it just beyond the visibility border to take advantage of that.

Full disclosure too, since I don't think I saw it mentioned in the video, the speedrun usually uses an earlier patch, as some of the tricks in the speedrun have been patched out. Just in case you tried to do something you saw in the video and it wasn't working. Most notably, off the top of my head, I believe "inventory drop" and "explosion pogo" were patched out for the current version

something i think you forgot to mention is when fighting the hollow knight and he stabs himself ALL your attacks becomes 1 damage each so if you need to heal focus on that and if you dont go to him and DONT use spells just use your nail to fuel up your soul (also i wanted to say its fun to see that i started playing hollow knight again not so long ago and i was so happy when i saw that you made a speedrun of it)

You can actually skip getting the mothwing cloak at the beginning completely if you use the mask shard near the ancestral mound to do a floating glitch, getting you into the fungal wastes and getting the mantis claw early

People began to whisper of the creature's strange powers and they began to fear it. But then one day, a brave warrior appeared. Hornet was a young woman from the depths of Hollow Knight. She had heard of the creature's presence and had come to confront it. Hornet was a skilled fighter and she was determined to protect the citizens of Hollownest. In a daring battle, Hornet fought against Brirdisor. Although the creature was powerful, Hornet was able to use her agility and skill to defeat him. It also took him less than a minute to get a term wrong Second at 1:32 they are aspids 2 bits of wrong terminology from 2:30 to 2:36 3:52 left shamans stone 4:25 double and triple hits 4:39 made the fatal mistake of mis-gendering the knight. The knight (player character) has no gender due to the influence of void 5:05 vs causes knockback so by using it twice you get pushed far enough to make the jump 5:57 forgot the name Vengefly King 6:25 soul (said it twice it's not called magic) 8:46 aspid arena 9:07 stag station "Jumpy dudes" are leaping husks 9:20 soul stone Money is geo 21:51 "the building" is teachers archives Eazy did say Quirrel correctly I stopped bothering with gender and "platform" instead of wall (exiting teachers archives) the Hollow Knight is also genderless due to the same conditions of birth as the knight, Hornet is female and known as the gendered child because she was born in different conditions. But other than that Eazy got most everything right! Time was terrible though compared to most of the top runners

4:21 this balder dies immediately because on lower patches, you can actually hit the balder from off screen and the fireball would linger there just long enough to hit the balder 4 times.

learned this route a couple months ago and finally got my first sub 40 minute time after trying casually for a while. Love this run! Shade skips are really hard T-T
