In New Zealand, many people wear Pounamu as it holds cultural, spiritual and geographic significance. This shape symbolises protection but there are many other shapes carvers use which mean different things to the people of Aotearoa (New Zealand). It may seem 'over the top' but it is actually very meaningful and precious to the wearer and to our nation. There are many customs in Aotearoa that surround the collection and treatment of Pounamu, which include passing the stone down through the generations, so my great great grandchildren will own this necklace some day- I thought you might find some more information interesting...
