Saw her in Montreal around 2001, and when she played this song, she belted it out with every fibre of her being. I wish that recording was available - it was absolutely inspirational. This version here is quite subdued in comparison, but still pretty good. Definitely my favorite jazz vocalist.

Holly is a master at phrasing, particularly over the slow build of musical tension in the group. She makes it sound like a simple process (it's not)...and congratulations on such a fine choice of musicians. Synergy at its finest.

Saw her twice at the Humanities theatre in Waterloo, years ago. The first time we went I had bought front row tickets. The second time we decided to buy them just before the show, and for some unknown reason, we were able to get the exact same seats as the first ! (What luck!) She's incredible and the band is top notch!

Rarely do i comment on KZbin videos but - this was my wedding song 27 year ago - this song helped me through some tough times - my mother passed in April - the pandemic etc, This song - that I listened to almost everyday helped me through the tough times. It's easy to have as a fave the first version of a tune we've heard, especially if we like it. First impressions and all that. But this isn't bad at all - certainly not as bad as some of the comments indicate (and I speak as a musician with over 50 years of playing experience). It's OK. I like the ostinato bass part and the groove. She sings pretty well - and don't forget, it's live. No studio adjustments or overdubs. That said, what really knocks me out of the park is her version of the Charlie Chaplin song "Smile."

Beautiful arrangement.. even without the terrific vocals. I wonder what part of Canada 🇨🇦 she is from? South West British Columbia...I grew up within sight of. A bright sunny day was usually a lighter shade of gray. Some days, it was a breathtaking shade of blue! Especially in Spring and early autumn. The hardwood leaves really set off the sky!
