People who think we can't pause because companies and markets are too hard to control... They're not realizing AI is _harder_ to control than that. It's not about democratizing access to this "great tool". "Tool" implies control and we do not have that.

Exactly! They say it will take authoritarian actions to pause, but wait and see the authoritarian actions that will both be needed and easier to apply after AGI is out of the bag...

Maybe people wont agree but I do also think the China bogeyman is a scare tactic to let companies race ahead for money. If this technology is *really* for the global good like they say it is then working alongside China is the obvious thing to do. Theres no conflict of interest because the goal is that we all get the world we want and endless resources to live happily.

What I really like about this interview, and about Holly, is that it's a very pragmatic, grounded take on AI safety, at least compared to the doomsayers. I'm still a fence-sitter, but I'd gladly encourage this type of level-headed activism.
