@@OceanCruisers I have said so on her channel. We had bbqs at the beach many times. I think holly was just 3 or 4 months old, just brand new,her parents said there passage from newzealand to fiji was rough and they figure they were under water as much as above. I think holly was born into the sea. No doubt its in her .

@@sailingsolo5290 that is so cool, what a small world we live in. Meeting people on remote islands in the Pacific and 30 years later seeing them online sailing the world!

33 ft of space, a million way to fall overboard, always potential for catastrophe, insane storms and seas, pirates and drug runners (we ran into multiple times), sketch situations. Nowadays things are way different. Navigation, weather predictions, commercialization and tourism, internet, satellite and cell. Fancy boats and savings accounts.... It was the wild west on the seas as a kid.

Love this - Holly is about as real a person as I've seen on a sailing channel, her work is not produced to please any particular audience, just to show people who she is, and how she's accomplishing her day to day life.

@37:20 Andy, try having Hiba do a voice-over for you. That would be quite ear opening! You have what it takes. You ask interesting questions and then let your guest spill the beans. You are great at this. Please don't stop.
@geoffstrebel280810 ай бұрын
I'd add to this that we'll never really ever hear yourselves since our skulls are like a snare drum, or something. We're just used to the rattle and the duration of hearing our own voice internally so recording it, then playing it back through speakers can't really override that life long and constant experience, can it? I think I sound silly in videos. Way higher pitched than what I hear when I speak. Right? Still, Hiba doing a voice over would be gold! :)

Holly this is awsome, I just found this! I'm watching episode by episode. But the way you solo sail. Safely, and live your dream, fix and I love watching youu install new toy's on her. You learned from your dad, who is kick-ass awsome and he's a true mastermind. I love your family, and how you are all yourselves. I'm from New England, in Rhode Island. We are the smallest state in the usa, and we are called the ocean state. But I also learned how to navigate my dad's 36ft center console boat, at 10 years old did, learning markings, lights, shallow, deep, etc. I purchased my 1st cuddy cabin 24ft cruiser. I still have that boat today. I'm 48, and restored her at 23 year's old. And now I won't sell it, because of all I've done to her. Electronics, DIY'S, motor rebuilds, lots of cosmetic work, added a outside freshwater shower. My cabin does have just a a head, sink, added counter space, very small fridge, microwave, solar panels, but most important every piece of safety gear I'd ever need etc. But it's enough to go out 3 to 4 day's, or alone with friends, or family. She's not a sail boat, but just a cruising boat for fun, fishing, catch and release, boat. Anyway stay safe, love the vids. I wish you will someday atleast put a 30 lb thrust minnkota trolling motor on your sail dinghy,, which would move you atleast 4 to 5 mph. Just in-case you ever needed to get off your vessel in a emergency with no wind. They're $100 in just abou any store with boat, fishing etc. 🙏 ⛵ ⛵

Lovely chat, thanks very much. This is a great format perfectly complementing the ''usual'' YT-Sailing-channel content. So much background info about these fine folks to go with the visuals on their respective channels. (I could also see this going more ''Rogan''-style sometimes, with a few drinks and crazy/silly/hilarious stories from the past for a few hours. ;) )

@53:43 This discussion is giving me a sensory deprivation kinda vibe but I'm super interested in tuning those modern day inputs out. We can all call ourselves "sailors" but not really if we're all modern day psychics through Predict Wind... Please understand I'm not knocking Predict Wind at all, but... I'm going to have a sextant aboard. I'm going to have a telescope aboard. Think of it this way... Either run a marathon or take a bus. Climb a mountain or take a helicopter. Be a Captain or play a video game...

@@OceanCruisers The only time a talked to Brian from Delos . He said the hardest thing to do is getting off the dock . I’m starting to believe him now . The last thing I have to do is a exhaust elbow on the motor and she’s ready to sail . I had to buy a new custom heat exchanger kit from Trans Atlantic diesel. Wasn’t cheap. But this summer I’m going to remove the teak and paint the deck. With the goal of a leak proof boat . Best podcast around.
