Hey all - earlier video this week to cover this release of the M2s: So what do you think? Is this the best sounding mini Wireless Microphone yet? Does it really compete with the DJ for features? Watch this next for my full creative desk setup kit on a budget: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXmwpWqCg9t-ZpI

I can hear a difference but I think it's mainly due to mic positioning. While M2s is more convenient clipping it to the collar near your throat and under the chin loses the high tones. The DJI has less bass but the mid chest is the best lav position (I actually prefer it). Like you said for paid interview gig it be stressfully relying on either. I really do like the design of the M2s, although the market is getting flooded with these type of wireless mics in all manner of shape, size and features.

I prefer the DJI Mic Mini for its fuller and brighter sound. It's a winner for me.

if your using DJI cameras...i think DJI mini is best option since it can be connected without the receiver
@BetterCreating12 күн бұрын
Yep totally.

DJI mic 2 and even the new MINI can also be used with INSTA360 Ace series and most of the mobile phone alone as a Bluetooth mic without the receiver. For me, I fond the the clipping mechanism of the M2s.😊

My opinion is the M2S has a deeper, less "sparkly" audio. More of a flat EQ, to my ear

One thing you didn't touch on, which is a difference for me, is the M2S doesn't have a flashing LED on it. The M2 and the Mic Mini both have visible flashing lights. I have the M2 and put the black sticker on it to hide the logo but I still wish I could get rid of the flashing LED. I may pick up the M2S as another option. Great review and testing!

I own lark m2s but tbh doesnt sounds as good as in this video. may I know what audio camera level you use and which level of the mic ?
@BetterCreating5 күн бұрын
Sure - camera right down to -28.5 and mic on middle setting. :)
@krazek1004 күн бұрын
Always you need to lower your camera audio setting at least to -12 db or lower ( better test for different mics)

Fantastic review, Simon! I’ve been looking for something that is compact and has decent sound for Zoom work calls. The AirPods Pro have such a frustratingly tinny sound that I don’t wish upon others! I love my Rode mics, but they take up space on my desk for day-to-day (keeping them for when I need to record online tutorials or have a big presentation). Thanks to your thorough review, I ordered the M2S! I’m surprised by the quality of the audio (even without noise cancellation) in my untreated home office, the compact form, and ease of use.

Awesome - totally agree - these are perfect for quality calls easily - and fair for the money :)

On your opinion, if I only use de mic for my phone and recording on my PC I won't need to buy de receiver for a professional camera, because I don't use a professional camera?

The M2S sounds best for his voice. Gotta love how discreet it is for button-down shirts/blouses. I already own the Mic Mini but will get the M2S based on how discreet it would be depending on what my subject is wearing during an interview. Different situations call for different tools!
@BetterCreating6 күн бұрын
Totally - TBF - it’s easy for me to use both since I only paid for the DJI - but I do thing the M2s is a great option if your mix is mostly used for calls or talking to a camera. :)

Hi Simon, thanks for all your great videos, they're always very informative and on point. I've got a question... I will be buying the Osmo pocket 3 and I'm looking to use 3-4 wireless mics at once but i'm struggling to find a simple solution...... any suggestions?
@RedWolfe9 күн бұрын
I did find myself liking the “DGEEI” sound quality better while listening to you on my Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones. It sounded fuller overall to me with less of that subtle high end whine that can created by noise cancellation. I ended up going with the Mic Mini and I like how I can leave the USB-C adapter connected to the transmitter and it still fits nicely into the case making it easy to just remove from the case and it’s ready to plug into my 15 Pro Max. The larger size of the transmitter on the Mic Mini vs the Hollyland can be an issue. The tight clearance when I used it with my Osmo 6 did cause me concern. Thanks for the comparison.
@BetterCreating8 күн бұрын
Haha - yes - can’t help myself on that one! Ha. Totally agree here on the ability to leave the usb-c attached. It’s fine on the phone but I worry I could knock it and break it. :)
@djxcel239 күн бұрын
How do you use the usb-c to lighting cable that is included?
@BetterCreating8 күн бұрын
Yes - it just plugs into the receiver as an option for lighting version - so. It so great as far as I can tell - I would go for the M2 if you want lighting direct to a phone.
@xaviermagana29557 күн бұрын
It's kinda contradictory, but a fix for the deadcats is to shave/cut the hairs just a little bit. I did that with my Lark M1 and Lark Max and i reduced them quite significantly without loosing the windscreens capacity to control excess noise

Both great products, I prefer the DJI's build quality.
@BetterCreating10 күн бұрын
Same here - just - on build quality and all-in-one portability - it's just so much better all in the case - but I would say I love the M2s for video calls via the USB-C reciever - I think it's best for that use case.
@AlexRyan_14 күн бұрын
The lark noise canceling is much more noticeable but seems more flat IMO
@BetterCreating14 күн бұрын
Yes - a little - bit changing it to low is better - I had the DJI on low which is much better
@sneeks13 күн бұрын
Are any of these microphones suitable for capturing ambient audio while on the move? I occasionally use a phone mounted on a gimbal and follow alongside pipe bands and brass bands, will these capture the audio from these ok? The iPhone microphone struggles with wind noise and clipping while walking alongside the bands.
@JWNRW5913 күн бұрын
@@sneeks As the Hollyland is Omni-directional, I would expect it to be able to pick up some ambient noise.

Greata honestly Comparision, thank you Bro. M2s looks sounds better. could you do some 32bit microphones?
@BetterCreating15 күн бұрын
Thanks my friend - yes - if I can get some I will do! I think the Rode Wireless Pro is the choice for 32 bit float at moment
@Fredo.heavyy15 күн бұрын
We don’t need more wireless mics without internal recording & 32bit float 🗣
@BetterCreating15 күн бұрын
I do agree - I'd like to see these companies release a Pro version with those features!
@Frank5Gmedia14 күн бұрын
Well said bro
@orvet14 күн бұрын
I’d humbly say it depends on the use case. For video calls 32-bit float etc is not needed. Ease of use however is key. IMHO it’s good to have different gear for different occasions/needs. Yes it’s more expensive to buy two bits of gear but the single perfect product doesn’t exist 😜
@Fredo.heavyy14 күн бұрын
@ Except the OG Hollyland lark M2 was released a year ago. This "new" model has same old specs and no innovation. It's a text book cash grab product + we already have exact clones of these mics for Mobile user from many other brands.
@orvet13 күн бұрын
@@Fredo.heavyy The design is the innovation and USP: visible size, lack of logo. And the sound quality is IMHO very good. Not every bit of a product needs to be entirely new for a product to be worth releasing. Cash grab, I respectfully disagree. That particular light can be shone with more certainty on other brands.

I have used Hollyland products, they are pretty good but at this time any new mini mics coming into the market have to be divided into ‘no internal recording’ or ‘ able to do internal recording’. Most other features are nearly identical

@JWNRW5914 күн бұрын
The Fulaim X5M is another compelling option as well. It’s not a mini mic, but is very very good all around. These mini mics are interesting, but are we pushing smaller size just for the sake of smaller size?? The M2S is pretty competitive and clearly price point will be lower than the DJI. Don’t think you can go wrong to be honest with either.
@BetterCreating14 күн бұрын
I actually think the size hasn’t changed - just what is shown - the mic feels better on quality and quiet noise floor too - much improved IMO over M2 :)
@mex534113 күн бұрын
yes, Fulaim is good! but the size ...
@JWNRW5913 күн бұрын
@@mex5341 Funny that the size of the Fulaim mic was sufficient before the DJI mini. The allure of the smaller form factor really is compelling, I must say. When my Fulaim X5 dies, I’ll likely go for one of the mini mics.
@mex534113 күн бұрын
@@JWNRW59 i have x5 but i need smth smaller like this m2s.
@JWNRW5913 күн бұрын
@@mex5341 Makes sense - if you need the smaller form factor. The X5 is a couple of years old at least now but admit it’s getting a bit long in the tooth for me as I use it every day in remote meetings between 4-6 hours 3 to 4 days a week. It’s been a trooper but happy to see these newer smaller form factors coming into play.
