@shannonoliver829Ай бұрын
It’s usually not an issue of being too short though. I’m 170 cm and still find Japanese clothing that fits me as size M. Finding clothes in the west though is impossible almost because I have been sized out of existence due to vanity sizing. What used to be a size small is now a size XS,or XXS, if that size is even offered. Even then, the length won’t fit.

Well, it's a problem for those who are on the bigger size and ARE Japanese. What about Mixed race people who are Japanese citizens as well? They're struggling because they may not have inherited the Japanese petite figure even by being healthy. So it very much is a problem. There must be a problem if there are shops that are basically plus size shops. But it's not a uniquely Japanese problem. It's an everywhere problem in general. Anywhere you have a society with disparity, you're having a fashion industry that caters to the lowest common dominator and hardly tries to fill in the gap. Not to mention a lot of it is fast fashion which is harmful to the environment. So, yeah it is an issue just not a uniquely Japanese one. It sucks extra for foreigners but like I say. @@JustAnotherPerson4U it's problems can lay in both areas. Yes, as this video says, the japanese have borderline unhealthy skinny sizing which could be a fault. But at the same, if westerners think that they have a right to go over to a country that isn't their and preach the 'big is beautiful' ideology and expect xxl/xxxl + or sizes 20 and up, they'll be in for a big shock when they get told that's not healthy and they don't have to accommodate that sizing. And that is a westerner problem. We think so often that a heavy weight should be the accepted standard and that other countries should accommodate to our needs
@JustAnotherPerson4U3 ай бұрын
@@iforgotihadthis Yeah, I wasn't saying that westerners should expect countries to cater to them. When I say 'sucks extra for foreigners', I mean that it's an extra bad thing that is a side bad thing. But not the main one. The main one is it locks those who don't have the Skinny ideal japanese body. There may be some who just don't have that in their genes. The point I'm making is that Japanese sizing is ostracising even some of their own citizens in fashion by doing this. Which is what a lot of cointries do anyway. Hence not a uniquely Japanese problem. A global fashion industry problem more like. And whilst I'm not a 'fat is beautiful' person. I'm very much a 'fat shaming doesn't help people lose weight' person. Clothes should fit you. Never the other way around.

Lace market legitimately sucks imo. It's full of scalpers and very rarely does something I want pop up. I also wear lolita. With a 78cm waist and 100cm bust I don't fit into the things I want to wear the most. It is what it is. Depending on the brand you like a lot of releases have a max garment bust of 88cm. Most regular sized lolita items go up to a max 95cm garment bust (and this would be using/stretching the shirring). One of the brands (might have been meta or AtePie) said that anything over 95cm is considered plus size for japanese lolita brand standards. There are plus sized options but they're usually really hard to find on the second hand market, even in japan. Your best option is to buy straight from the brand. In the last Antique Bouquet release I bought the plus sized OP and the plus sized cape.

I recommend looking online for tall size shops. You can also order longer dresses in general (not specifically from tall size shops), it's just that if the waistline of the dress falls at waist height for the size it was drafted for it will hang slightly higher for you. You can solve this issue by wearing skirts and some sort of top (blouse, cutsew, camisole). You only have to figure out what your three sizes are (bust, waist, hip) in cm, but also how long you want your skirts to be and then order skirts by waist size, hip size and by the length. If something says midi it's probably not going to be midi length for you.

If japanese people live in the west and the clothes are too long for them they can order from specialty lines or even specialty shops offering "petite sizing" (in fashion terms this just means shorter). They can also buy from regular lines and get the size that fits their bust, waist and hips and then get the sleeves and hems taken in if necessary. That is what I do. You can also shop the kids section and get the size that corresponds with your height. Shoes too. These items don't have to look like childrens clothes, they have basics and even formal wear. I have an even shorter friend who is 145cm tall, who is shorter than most japanese women and she can still get clothes here in the west. There are plus sized stores in japan, and there are regular size stores that offer from xxxs to xxxl. These weren't made to cater to foreigners, they were made because there's a demand within the japanes market. There are also tall size stores. There is no shortage of cute options in japan, you just have to know where to shop. I didn't see this video as sh1t talking japan, I interpret this as a heads up for foreigners that they might not be able to find their size just by walking around the shopping street.

If you’re a 2X size person are excepted in their stores or restaurants or hotels I was told large people are not accepted in Japan. Is this true I would like to visit Japan.

it's like going to your neighbour's home and finding their chairs are too low, is that a problem?
@mindyourownbusinessplease1120Ай бұрын
Not their problem. It's their country and clothes cater to their residents. They are healthy compared to most - so it's our problem.

It isn’t any cult that we’re more fit than Americans, it’s just that we generally use public transportation which means lots of walking, my average is 7,000 steps/ day, and to top it all off we have a healthy diet. So stop shape shaming and work out your own problems
@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh51183 ай бұрын
I worked at a japanese company with mostly japanese colleagues so I know this isn't true, in fact it's so untrue it makes me laugh. What she means with a cult of thinness is that there is an emphasis on thinness (for girls and women) in japan but since the idealized female body is near underweight or underweight you cannot possibly argue that it has anything to do with a healthy lifestyle or that the ideal is that thin because of health concerns. A lot of the popular diets are unhealthy. It's about image and conformity, not about health. Most japanese people aren't even fit. Lots of skinny-fat bodies and undermuscled people. Most of the young women only care about having a small size, not about their body composition. "we have a healthy diet", lol. Most of the yōshoku dishes are unhealthy. Plenty of washoku dishes also have deep fried foods in them. Vegetable consumption is low, fiber consumption is low, lots of empty calories. This video isn't shape shaming but it serves as a warning that foreigners visiting japan shouldn't expect to find clothing that fits them just by walking around the shopping street. If you want to shop for clothes in japan you should figure out if you fit into the regular sizes first, and if you need a plus sized shop or a shop that offers extended sizing you need to look up the adres online before you go.

American diet very unhealthy and they have such large portions and also no public transportation. Is no wonder that Asian are more fit.

@@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118but at least their food environment isn't full of synthetic chemicals and all that yucky stuff. They do have unhealthy weight expectations though, so not the most healthy yea. Here in Cantonese area we are actually healthy, is because we take walks, have healthy eating habits, and practice Tai Chi.
@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118Ай бұрын
@@sanneoi6323 Regarding the additives, especially synthetic additives, it depends on what you are comparing it to. The US has a "allowed until proven unsafe" framework for allowing additives, whilst both Japan and EU have a "not allowed until proven safe" framework. Comparing it with the EU, there is not a big difference between them but Japan has a slightly larger list of allowed additives overal but also more synthetic additives that are allowed. Since I live in the EU I'm comparing our standards with japanese standards, logically I do not see japanese food as better in regards to additives. Would you consider the weight expectations of the area you live in to be healthier compared to Japan? Also just to clarify, I am not badmouthing Japan. Every country has its pros and cons.

They are not unhealthy, they live the longest!
@sonievkayАй бұрын
people need to realize that the clothes there are cater towards japanese people first, foreigners last. majority of japanese people don’t want to be skinny, they just don’t want to be fat and unhealthy. naturally, teens are the ones that likes to be skinny, then once they turn into adult, it’s not just about being skinny but, more about health. i came the states to japan weighing almost 200lbs. within 3 yrs i’ve dropped to 160. i didn’t complain about not fitting into the clothes, i just worked out because i like the styles…but now, not only can i wear what i like, but also live much healthier life. western countries need to work on the obesity in their country first before they complain about other countries.
