I had the unfortunate experience of meeting John Derek I was working as I can executor at one of our local motion, picture rental houses here in Hollywood Mr. Derek walks in with his beautiful wife, and being impatient and privileged at the same time decided to verbally assault me. I will call his wife like hiding behind one of our posters in total embarrassment. I recalled without any provocation calling me an asshole my boss heard this and challenge Mr. Derek to apologize. He then told my boss to meet him outside for a round of fisticuffs mind you, my employer was in the 60s and not in very good health My employer immediately barred him on the premises. What a complete jerk.

Please. Not so fast. He, John Derek, lived in my hometown in Santa Ynez, CA. I even once had breakfast at a tiny breakfast place there ( Santa Ynez) with him and his wife and sister in law Whereby, sometimes you were sat down with strangers at a tiny 4 person table. Being ( I think) young, blond and surfer/ tennis player, I was sat having breakfast with John Derek, Bo Derek and her sister. Funny that nothing special occurred. Except small talk. Normal stuff. I met Bo Derek again at their home later. They were lovely normal people. Bo's sister was also incredibly beautiful . The Seventies were an extraordinary times in Santa Barbara County.

I had a childhood crush on him watching "Frontier Circus," which lasted only one season - 26 episodes. I still remember a grade school assignment to write a fan letter to a famous person. Half the class wrote to Caroline Kennedy, but I wrote to John Derek, c/o Revue Studios. My letter probably went right in the circular file. No matter - my infatuation was soon shifted to "Destry" (John Gavin) which lasted a mere 13 episodes! Thank heavens for John Astin's Gomez Addams, my next crush and a much bigger TV success! 🤣

I don’t think he was Hollywood’s original train wreck but he certainly was among them. Unfortunately, like his last wife, his talent was more modest than his physical beauty.

My hero of all-time is James Dean. I'm 64 and 'found' Jimmy in 1975 when I was 15. I've read so many books on him. I read many times that Jimmy asked a friend to introduce him to Ursula. But although they dated quite briefly, Ursula told Jimmy that she was waiting for her lover, John Derek to take her back. He had of course split up with Pier Angel. A couple of his pals said that Jimmy had told them that he was falling in love with Ursula. Had he lived, I wonder if she would have stayed with Jimmy, and maybe they would have married? Lucky girl, having 2 handsome men vying for her!! I think Jimmy was the better catch though!! 😊But of course, had he known me, I'd have stolen his heart, I'm sure😮😅

I remember seeing Ursula Andreas in H. Rider Haggard’s “She” (1965) but had no idea of her involvement with J Dean or Derek. I also had no idea that he was Bo Derek’s husband…. Having seen “10” and been rather unimpressed by the film. I think Ravel’s “Bolero” figured in the film and have always thought it to be boringly repetitive. Thanks for a revelatory expiosé

well Hollywood is a difficult place for anyone to navigate and this kid did not sound like he was well raised or guided as a child. The fact that he kept trying to survive and excel is commendable in a town rife with failure, humiliation, intense competition and chance

John made all the financial decisions for the couple and lived far beyond his means. Bo naively believed him when he told her they could afford a. When he died she learned that he had second and third mortgages on everything they owned. It all had to be sold to clear the debt. For awhile she lived with her sister until she got on her feet financially

I have watched several interviews with him and found him arrogant, and then I began to read how he treated and left his wives...and knew he was a terrible person. He made his OWN bad luck...he should have studied the craft and not been so stubborn and maybe he would have made a director of himself? I never understood the blind devotion of his wives to such a man?

The problem with very beautiful people is that others are always accommodating and generous to them. Most of the time they don't hear negative things about themselves to make them try to improve. John Derek as a person, husband, father, actor and director are examples of the judgement of those around him being clouded by his looks.
