I can't believe the Clarisse developers have stopped developing this app. I put a lot of effort into learning this program and had high hopes for my career after studying it. It would be great if a volunteer team could take their work further and continue developing it.

@@misanthrope_01 extreme polygon counts wasnt enough. Unreal and other apps caught up. and they had extra 3d production tools and the GPU rendering solved. The Angie never became a production reality. They probably saw that they could keep dropping millions on the development and what would they have? A great GPU renderer.. and what else? game engine? A real time render engine? To stay competitive it was going to be endless money sink.. They had a good run..but saw they were going to go broke trying to keep up with EPIC GAMES..they left while they still had money in the bank.

Clarisse user here since version 2 was in beta. It truly is an amazing tool. I went back to one of my old shots (done in v2) and realized that I had been working on a scene with over 955 Billion primitives. And that was on a mid-range workstation (far from the cream of the crop even back then). I recommend this tool to anyone who is doing any sort of VFX work. Especially environment work.

hello, im wondering is there anything houdini can't do what clarisse could when using same machine for both programms? everything shown in a video is kinda similar to how i work in houdini except for this thing about thousands of subdivisions which are possible in clarrisse; doesnt sound like a true thing actualy.
@RedDaveMotion
@RedDaveMotion 4 ай бұрын
@@rennightmare it's true about handling millions of subdivisions. I'm not sure of the technicalities of it but think it worked as a kind of reference object. So it wouldn't load the objects but stream them. The software's discontinued now and no longer for sale.
@AndreyLebrov

Closest replacement to Clarisse would be katana, but since release of Houdini 20, there’s nothing Solaris can’t handle. It’s katana on steroids with a wonderful benefit of Karma working seamlessly with all internal Houdini ops, I’m enjoying it a lot. Yes, it would not handle TRILLION of polygons in the viewport like Clarisse can, but you will quickly find that renders can be built in mindblowingly clever ways and potentially surpass the performance of Clarisse if done correctly )

the best introduction to clarisse, i found so far on the internet, i was watching tutorials, i was like yeah all this exist in houdini this is so boring .. in fact, you showed why clarisse is so good, good job on that, and with the angie renderer coming in the future, it's one of the rare 3d software's that made a breakthrough to the top, in the 3d industry in just few years(substance also and 3D coat)

Great that you mentioned clarisse, maybe this great software gets more attention outside studios. I first heard of it on reddit and could not really understand what exactly clarisse does. They have a nice learning edition to try things out, so i tried and i like it very much. You can really throw everything into clarisse, even scatter things on scatered things hahaha, the performance is great no matter how much polys you have in scene. Best instancing mechanism i saw so far. Looking forward to see some nice tutorials with clarisse from you :-)

Several years ago one of our co-workers was the odd man rendering his stuff on Clarisse while everyone else was swearing by whatever render of choice on Maya or 3dsmax at the time… even several years ago his outcome was (and still is) above and beyond the usual. The sad part is, for some reason, it isn’t as widely adopted as it could be… at that time there were over 200 employees that got a taste of it and only this guy and his manager were the only ones to embrace it (myself included also didn’t follow it). Thanks for bringing this back.

Hehe, yep, is a very insane good software. I wrote you a few times in comments to use it. Render times back a few years ago where not to good for small indie artists. Was slow on the cpus from a few years ago. Now is perfect for these new times with super powerfull cpu's. I would say this is sort of an "endgame" software, the results are big blockbuster quality. You got many levels up in your finaly quality with this :).

I had heard of clarisse before, and yeah it seems like the use cases basically involve incredibly dense scenes that would make your normal render engine or 3d package grind to a halt when unreal engine isn't an option. With the new path tracing renderer in 4.27 unreal is way more usable in an offline pipeline but it isn't specifically built for huge offline productions like clarisse is, they're just slowly adding more features for filmmakers.

I would LOVE a quick Clarisse video for C4D+Octane users. Where do you animate, do you do expresso and materials in C4D and export alembic to clarisse? Multipass export, mixamo, you know all that stuff. If you basically build your entire scene in Clarisse with assets (like one would with UE5), or how much stuff can be made in C4D first and then ported to Clarisse? It looks incredibly promising, and I’m tempted to buy a permanent license right away.

Out of curiosity what were the render times on each of these scenes (moon terrain, generic terrain) and how many cores did you throw at it from your farm? For a solo artist or small studio how would you make the case for this tool if they only had like 1-3 machines vs something like Redshift/Arnold/Octane etc.. since I'm I wasn't able to find Clarisse iFX on a few different offsite render farms. Also if you are doing look development in another renderer like Arnold/Redshift/Octane etc.. are you importing any of that into Clarisse at all and/or do those even talk to one another at all? or are you utilizing clarisse as the render engine essentially.
