It just seems to be a lot lately of her saying “I love you” and it seems weird to me to throw out such a strong word without knowing us personally, I feel like it’s more of a thing to say bc everyone says it now in their videos, it takes away the true meaning of love when it’s just thrown out so casually to Ppl you don’t even know except for some online interaction. Just seems strange to me to say that an audience of ppl.

The red eyeliner in the inner corner is a classic stage-makeup trick: you put a dot right at the point, and combined with the white cream and eye pencil your eyes look HUGE onstage. A lot of this look brought me back to my opera chorus days, especially the eye contouring. I did my makeup like this for years afterward, including at my wedding!

They actually worked with the Marilyn estate to model these products after ones that she actually used. And they got tips from Whitey her makeup artist to get the look. I just think that’s so cool.

Based on various things I’ve read, Whitey and Marilyn were great friends. He was loyal to her and made sure she always looked fantastic. How he did her makeup was a secret! Makeup was not like it is today. Makeup artists had to improvise and many things they used were toxic. I agree with you, this is so cool.

@@lorrainegreen6782 I know. She even had asked him years earlier if she ever died for him to do her makeup for her funeral! The "double dark eyeliner+white in between" is something that is used by actors and dancers and people in show bussiness in general, in order to emphasize their look and make their eyes look really good on TV (or theatres). As a girl that has taken ballet lessons, I remember the older ballerinas who danced at the end of the season, doing that exact eye make-up. I've even used that kind of eye make up on my daughter when she dressed up as Black Swan (for the Halloween=here in Greece we selebrate Halloween in February). Great look, Emily❤❤❤❤

Besame did a great job with this collection, including the instructions, and I am a huge lover of all things Marilyn. MM’s makeup application was intricate, and it’s been said that when she was a young unknown starlet, her makeup artist spent at least 20 hrs with her, trying to develop her “look”. She wanted to stand out, and get the attention of Hollywood producers. She took the advice to go platinum blond, since blond was the main attraction then. “They” said she was another “Jean Harlow”, so she took her look a step further. Using white cream or liner didn’t start with her, but MM used this technique to bring light certain areas of the face that could be accentuated under studio lights. When standing under the lighting, false lashes can create a shadow that looks beautiful in soft focus. Sometimes Vaseline was used on the tops of the cheeks, not just as a skin protectant, but as a glistening highlight. It has also been said MM wore up to 5 shades of red lipstick at once, in particular order, to make her lips appear fuller, and the color longer lasting through scenes. And she and her makeup artist created their own special lip gloss formula, when lipgloss wasn’t readily available on the market. False lashes were applied tilted downward, to give a sleepy eyed look and reinforced the shadow on the lower lids. MM became a legendary standout beauty, and I hope they maintain this collection for sometime.

I'm so excited about this video and Emily, I wonder if you might assemble a drugstore kit to mimic the results of this method? It would make a great subject for a video. It doesn't need to be dupes, but suggestions for substitutes from your stash and your experience. This Allan "Whitey" Snyder method is something that I have had on my radar for a long time. The books and articles about Marilyn's relationship with her makeup artist are fascinating. They were together from her first screen test in 1946 and he did final makeup for her in 1962. The subtle finesse of Whitey's style for Marilyn has been my inspiration for makeup since I was little.
