I've been listening to Hollywood Undead since 2009 and personally, V is by far my favorite album by Hollywood Undead, beating my previous favorite in American Tragedy. I'll admit that Day of the Dead as an album fell rather flat with a couple notable songs, but V is just all around amazing. Danny's vocal performance in this album feels a lot more polished here than in previous albums, he's not just doing the chorus like he always does, he even got a full song to himself in Ghost Beach, like how Deuce got his own full song in This Love, This Hate. Everyone got involved in this album, and I personally adore the EDM songs(I listen to a lot of EDM), Riot is one of my absolute favorites off this album purely because the rowdiness and the energy in the song gets me pumped, I'm sure that song will do amazing on tour. The other four members' vocals are noticeably better in this album compared to previous album, J-Dog's rap feels more polished, Charlie's singing is even better than already was as shown in songs like Rain and I'll Be There, Johnny 3's vocals still retain that iconic badass harsh tone fans love, and Funny Man has been involved in more songs in this album alone than I think any of their previous albums, even if it's backup vocals in songs like Bang Bang. Even if you don't like this album as a whole, this album goes to show how far the band has come.

Based off the 4 songs they released prior to the album, it sounded like they were going to go back to a NFTU-sound and leaving the EDM sound behind. Pretty upset that they still use the dance beats. Sounds like they were misleading everyone by releasing only harder rock/rap sounding songs before Five was released. But I’ll figure out how I truly feel when I can hear it on Friday

Hollywood Undead is doing the exact same thing that bands like Linkin Park and Gorillaz are doing, and that's not being restricted to one sound. They are an experimental band. If they did the same thing all the time, it would get boring. It's always refreshing to hear a heavy rock song one minute and an EDM song like Riot the next (which is my favorite song, personally. Gets me fucking pumped). Hollywood Undead is one of those bands that aren't afraid to push the boundaries.

I have been a fan of HU ever since American Tragedy and have been overall satisfied with the music they make. I really like that every album is a bit different and the albums themselves are diverse, since I can get bored with a band rather easily and HU manage to keep it fresh with almost every song being a bit different in genre. This goes for the songs where Danny is leading the vocals as well, and I would probably even put Ghost Beach as one of my favourite songs HU have released so far. But everyone has a different taste and I respect, if you expected something else. For me, this was pretty much everything I wanted from them, now I am just waiting for the Europe tour to hear the songs live

I think I finally get why HU is so polarizing. From what I've heard from most people that don't like their music is that they don't get what their doing genre wise, which 100% makes sense. I think I like them so much because I'm the kind of person whos playlist can go from a song like War Child to some piano songs from like Lucas King or something and I would barely notice, so the different kinds of songs they make are all cool to me. When you look at all their music as a whole I could see how someone could be turned off by the lack of consistency, but I think people who look at each song as their own individual things like them better than people who like to keep a consistent flow when listening to music.

In my opinion the way that the album "doesn't know what it wants to be" fits perfectly with HU. They're rap, rock, metal, electronic, etc. they're genre is all over the place and that's good. They get happy, sad, angry, etc. Their album should reflect all that. Which it does. I enjoy this album greatly, it is not my favourite HU album, That's NFTU but this is still solid. Also I loved Ghost Beach, it was fresh and didn't take anything away from the album.

Like I said in my opinion this is probably my favorite album, every song is great, again my opinion, I can see why someone wouldn't like them, I actually haven't listened to them really in a year or two, but I just recently saw them live in Billings MT, I wasn't too hyped for this album but it definitely blew the roof off my expectations.

I think this is their best album IMO, especially with the lyrics. We all know some of the lyrics on their earlier albums didn't age too well, but I think this is the album where they fully stepped into maturity (3 of them were dads by this point, and another one had a kid around the time the album came out). Yes, there's Cashed Out and Riot, which are party songs, but apart from that, there is some really poetic lyricism. California Dreaming talks about the rampant inequality in LA, Broken Record is about dealing with the death of a loved one, Ghost Beach is reminiscing about childhood, etc. Also, their lead singer Danny is absolutely phenomenal. He sounds eerily similar to Chester Bennington, and I've always loved that.

I thought his voice was SO good this album. Riot was my favorite song with Bad Moon, Ghost Beach & Renegade following. NFTU was the album i disliked the most. I liked it of course, but it was too rappy with songs like Up In Smoke & Pig Skin. I liked it, of course, but i would prefer to listen to their Rock/Metal/Party songs before NFTU songs. Some lyrics in V can be dull but the music makes up for that. Bands evolve. I honestly disagree with everything you've said other than the lyrics being dull in some songs. But to each his own

For people complaining about the album name not being creative look for the interview where Johnny talks about why they picked it. He talks about how he loves symbolism among other things. The album itself is all around pretty interesting and honestly takes the cake for my favorite album. Songs like Renegade are kind of bland and repetitive but still a good song because of the instrumental. All the other songs are exceptional. The problem with people knocking the EDM, and party songs, is the fact they they're just that. Party songs. That's what they're meant to be and the band does this for fun because they obviously like to party. A lot of the arguments people have against them are not fair because of the fact people don't look at why they made the song or why decide anything for that matter.

But man they couldve made a better album after, no need to change so much the style and make it so mixed up, they should really see that california dreaming, renegade, etc were the most catching songs by far, and continue into that, its okay they wanted to try out the electro edm kinda slow style... but its pretty clear to me that it was a failure xD

That's the thing about HU though they have the balls to jump genres and not sound like generic radio rock bands. It's probably their 2nd best imo. You say HU is cheesy but HU has always had that quirky kind of attitude with their music so this is really nothing new from them. Also Da Kurlzz wasn't the drummer he was just the percussion player and did screams but the drummer in live shows was always a touring one.

Thing is like you say Hollywood Undead is a band of so many different genres so if there's EDM and Dance sounds in this album why's that matter. I've listened to them since early 2008 and I agree with you, Day of the dead was mostly trash imo. first album from them where I didnt like all of the songs. Infact, I liked few songs on that album. Same with this album im afraid, a little bit better though, I like most songs. not all.

i loved riot. it's a really well done edm song- in my opinion. all of the singles were amazing as well. whatever it takes and california dreaming are fantastic. renegade and we own the night are great but to a lesser extent. not their best but definitely still a good album. p.s. comparing any song to the diary is pretty unfair. the diary is a work of art.

Simon He doesn't do metal albums often, which sucks. Trivium's TSATS is a top 5 metal albums of the year.

I do like their new album, except for maybe one song. Its just there band has changed alot. Deuce ended up out of the band and danny took place. That changed their music a bit, Now Da Kurlzz Left due to wanting to pursue somthing more so its gonna be different from that. Alot of music is heading towards some odd directions, alot of people enjoy Melodies and sad songs. Or to where Its really pumped up, I enjoy the diversity in the songs though. I think what they want to it is try to appeal to all audiences, one for the hard rock, then the melody sadder songs and The Rap ones.

this review is coming from someone too biased to be accurate. five is by far one of the best if not the best album theyve ever come out with, forsure. nearly EVERY SINGLE song is catchy as hell and all the members verses and chorus all have a great flow, and are all different from eachother. this is one of the best albums ive heard all year, and after hearing this album ive gone back and listened to the rest, and still this is the best imo.

Thanks for another good in-depth review! I agree that Notes from the Underground is their best album. I’ll be listening to V soon and see how I feel about it.

Jeremy Lewis Five is a great album,he didn't talk about alot great tracks like broken record and we own the night, he's review very subjective in my opinion.Five is probably my second favorite Hu album after notes from the underground.

I like it mostly. I’d place it above day of the dead but below notes from the underground. Still enjoy most of the songs on the album though

It was named 5 because they never thoight they would ever get to 5 records. It was their goal and they actually made it, they never thought they would.

Notes from the underground is there best album, This album is better in diversity bc whats the point of doing the same old thing? this album is great and people should support the artistic values they come out with instead of hating on it. People listen to ignorant music and repetitive shit daily, Pierce the veil or sleeping with sirens that are stuck in one genre and cant make music they really want bc the label there band put them selfs in. Hollywood Undead does not have a set genre and i love that because you never know what to expect.

I personally love Riot. Can you review New Empire Vol. 1?

Loved every album up until Day Of The Dead. I liked maybe two songs on this DOTD. I liked about six songs on five. Its sad though because I liked almost all the songs Swan Songs-Notes From The Underground. Miss Da Kurlzz tho, he was my favorite member.

I disagree with pretty much everything in this review. I loved this album, i loved Day of the Dead, I cant really recall any album I didn't like. And you have to remember, its about opinion. He thinks riot is a terrible song... while I really like it. I dont understand why you even waste your time doing a review on music when you dont even like the type of music your reviewing on. You said it several times through the video that this type of music isnt something you're a huge fan of. So leave it to the people to choose. You doing this review could stop people from listening to the album even though its something they may really enjoy. Because personally, This is one of my favorite albums in general, not just by Hollywood Undead.

While I liked Day of the Dead quite a bit (some of the tracks on it were certainly a lot of fun), this album just feels tired and forced. It feels like 5 dudes struggling to do what came naturally before. This just goes to show that a band can't get away with making the same shit over and over again until it sells. That said, I still got my tickets for their show in 2018, I won't cancel because they are incredibly fun live, but this album really didn't do it for me. Like you said, 5 albums in, we're kinda trying to look for something more.
