Couldn't agree more. It's easy to hear this passing by and assume it's a happy song but when you stop to listen you find out how messed up things really are. Plus the "if I survive then I'll see you tomorrow." Pretending to be normal again when you fail, most people can't imagine trying to turn the lights out, waking up the next day and then putting on your clothes and going about your daily routine again when you're supposed to be gone

As someone with depression, this song... this song is the perfect encapsulation of putting on a happy face even when you have these thoughts. It’s why depression is so dangerous, people can be super happy on the outside but the thoughts just pound on you and your mood and everything else

"this song is too jolly" yep my sister asked me before what i was listening too and i told her "a happy suicide song" she didnt believe me so i played it then she understood what i meant :P also how i look at the song is a sort of passive aggressive take on suicide but the fact that its all written in a notepad makes it feel like someone has actually broken down and wrote it out then the colour change at the end with the kid makes it seem like the kid found it and saw about the rooftop flying line and got the idea to try it

On spotify's wrapped year end thing this came up as the "song that got you through the year" for me, and honestly that's kinda true. The "If I survive then I'll see you tomorrow" line always helped me just to take it day by day. Just make it to tomorrow, one tomorrow at a time, because sometimes that's the best you can do, and it's enough.

There were nights when I was a teen where I'd listen to this song on repeat for hours on end because it was one of the few songs that, surprisingly enough, made me feel better mentally and emotionally, because it reminded me that I wasn't the only one who felt the way I did. I'm doing better now (I'll be 22 in a few months), but back then, I was in a really dark place mentally. This song, oddly enough, is actually a comfort song for a lot of people who deal with those kinds of things, especially a lot of teens today. If you ask most people that are from the ages of 13-28 or so today, they'll likely confirm that they either used to listen to this song, or even still do.

First, I love the videos you make. Two years ago I was diagnosed with parkinsons, I was thinkinking in the line of "... well this is it, no point of going on and be a burden to society", this song made me laugh and enjoy my life, after the bad news hit me, I've started to run, eat healthy etc, I got a couple of decades left, so I really think no one will go thru with the ultimate sacrifice after listening to such an upbeat song, no matter what the lyrics are :) Thanks again for making entertaining videos ;)

Think of it this way... the happy beat on top represents the front that people put up, the lyrics represent the thoughts and struggles they are facing. I mean look at Robin Williams, prime example of someone who put on a happy front when in reality he was so done with life.

To be honest, it feels like how i feel where all the emotions are pent up but you have no one to turn to, and that feeling builds the longer you fight the suicidal thoughts, until you meet that person/ people who are a light to you and give you a reason to fight other than jumping ....

This song has been absolutely pivotal in my life. All of my favorite people know every word to the song, we are broken and beautiful all at once. As a poet I see this as their best song, nothing reflects the harsh reality of depression quite like it. When you're depressed you often tend to put on a mask, a fake smile, simulated energy, jovial, jolly, much like the beat. But the lyrics and the way they're delivered dont match it at all. Its terrible, everything hurts, but at the same time it becomes so casual, so normal. I want you all to know that even if you can't see it or believe it, you are loved and lovely, the asphalt might look soft now, but looks are deceiving. Peace and love my friends ❤

Not to wildly tmi but the first time I wished I was dead--directionlessly, I wasn't actively suicidal--I think I was 8. So the kid at the end feels both like a glass of ice water down my back, and like being seen. Someone gets it. This song meant a lot to me as a teen, when the whole world felt awful and I didn't have anywhere to go or escape to.

Ok so my family has a history of suicide. My grandpa unalived himself, then my dad did the same on my 7th bday, unaliving myself was always a valuable option and then I had a kid. Now im the "mama feels guilt". "Mama feels pain" person. As long as my son is around unaliving myself isnt an option but I'm terrified its a family thing and my son will follow my dad.
