Andrew Lincoln refrains from watching himself on projects like this until it is fully complete as a way of bettering his performance and making it "raw" so to speak without having it tainted by how it is portrayed on television. It is his own unique way of bringing his character to life without any sort of bias.

Bad example. As a musician, I'm constantly listening to what I've made, enjoying it, learning from it, improving it, and loving it some more. This is an entirely different case. This isn't a piece of work he's personally created on his own. This is an acting JOB that he's paid to do, and while he probably enjoys it, he never wrote the script, and didn't sculpt it himself.

It's very hard for actors to watch themselves in their own work because they are always going to be super critical and not believe they did a good job which can affect their performance. Their own negative bias is impossible to overcome because all they will see are all the little things they did wrong or think they could have done better.

In a few scenes you can see it, when Carl and Hershel are in the woods and come across the walker with no legs, you can see Hershel standing on two, and when the group is in the Library and Hershel says "Don't panic, we're going to figure this out." You can briefly see his other leg.

That's probably it. He'll see something he may not like when portraying Rick and then change things a little and give an inconsistent performance. That's probably what makes Andrew Lincoln a great actor. Plus, this way, he's already established his character and already knows Rick so he doesn't really have to watch the show to know how to portray Rick.
