This song is from the album "Every picture tells a story". The title track is an excellent example of Rod and his band really rocking out. Nothing like his later soft rock, and something I recommend if you want to explore that side of his catalogue. This was hugely popular back in the day.

When Rod was in The Faces they were known as a "pub rock" band. Hard drinking, girls and football ( soccer) was their thing and they played to the pub sensibilities 9f Britain at the time. An all-time classic. The mandolin near the end adds so much to the song. Great, natural, believable storytelling by Rod The Mod. This is likely his best known and certainly most played radio song. I was 10 when this came out and it played ALL the time. When I had my daughter at 23 years old, named her Meghann, but we called her, and still call her, Maggie May. Also, I can't hear Sir Rod Stewart without thinking of Roger Taylor in Queen. Roger's voice is always compared to Sir Rod's... not sure if it goes the other way around. Fun Fact: The name "Maggie May" does not appear in the song; Rod borrowed the title from "Maggie Mae," a Liverpool folk song about a Lime Street prostitute that the Beatles included on their Let It Be album. Stewart liked the play on words the title created, sometimes introducing the song by saying, "This is 'Maggie May' - sometimes she did, sometimes she didn't."
@codydrummerАй бұрын
@NeverTrustGhost another fun fact about Rod Stewart (indirectly). When Rod Stewart left Jeff Beck's band, a young Steven Tyler (who i believe was still going by his birth name Tallarico) wanted to audition. So he gathered up a bunch of local musicians and recorded demo tapes to send in. He didn't get the gig, but liked the group he gathered for the demos and they became Aerosmith.
