Power metal is more thrashy for most bands in the US, but in Europe, it's more affiliate to speed metal, and melodic or even symphonic metal. For exemple Iced Earth and and Nevermore are from the US and have more thrash roots even if it's more melodic and polished, and in Europe you have bands like Hammerfall or Helloween who have more melodic solos , hi pitched dramatic singing or more keyboards parts... but these are just exemple, sometimes the line is more blurry. keep it on guys, i love your channel, and i'm sorry for damn broken english, i do the best i can. Power Metal was born in 1984 in my city - Hamburg, Germany by my 2nd favourite frontman, after James - KAI HANSEN on his Helloween EP - Walls Of Jericho. He is the grandfather of power metal. But 'Tallica used the term Power Metal in 1982 before there was a term for trash.
@MegaKat
@MegaKat 3 жыл бұрын
@@Hollywood6IX Yes and no. Thrash was born a lot more from Black Metal, not Power Metal, but Thrash definitely got a lot of influences from Power metal. Examples of Black Metal include King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Bathory, and Hell hammer. They're more melodic than Power Metal. Examples of Power metal would be Dio, Black Sabbath, Sabaton, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Blind Guardian, etc. Trash is faster, closer to Speed metal in a way, while being melodic in a similar way to Black metal. There are so many subgenres of metal that it'll make your head spin, honestly.

About The theme of the song revolves around the San Francisco thrash scene of the 1980s. The most prominent club played by Metallica was the Old Waldorf located at 444 Battery Street in downtown San Francsico. The tone of the song is one of familial ties and the positive release of energy through the common interest of metal. The lyric "Cannot kill the family, Battery is found in me" is a statement that while society at large doesn't understand the scene, those within it (i.e. "the family") will fiercely defend it as a show of solidarity against the glam scene that was popular in the Los Angeles area

Much like Blackened (my #1), Damage Inc, and Dyers Eve, songs like this are among my all-time favourite thrash/speed metal songs. It's all about that aggressive double time drum beat. Some of the songs on Master of Puppets almost make it feel like a concept album. Several songs are about the things that control our lives, Master of Puppets about addiction, Sanitarium about mental health, Leper Messiah about religion, Disposable Heroes about war...but then there's Battery and The Thing That Should Not Be and my concept album hypothesis falls apart. Battery is about Battery St. where they got their start in music, and The Thing is based on an H.P. Lovecraft story called Shadow Over Innsmouth.

It's about how violence in the world has always been around and can't be stopped. They do have a few lines, however, where they use the word "bettery" as a noun instead of a verb. In those cases it's being used as a double entendre. Extremely well crafted song.

I have strong memories of this song... see back in the day I was in a band, a Rock Band, on the XBox 360... 7 Thumbs Up... as our bassist lost his thumb in a bike chain cleaning accident. We got to this song... nobody could play it apart from me. I was on drums, Eck on lead, couldn't get anyone to keep up with bass, nobody else could keep up on drums, so we were stuck. I guess all the major metal bands go through this - I looked at my brothers with beer saturated eyes, almost in tears, pleading with them please - either get good, or lets just have another bong and stick on some Rob-the-president instead :D

The original term for Thrash Metal was Power Metal, but after common use of the word Thrashing in the underground and then a review of Metallica's Ride The Lightning in 1984 that supposedly coined the term Thrash Metal, the genre was cemented. In terms of when both genres came out, many point to Rainbow being the first Power Metal band having included influences of fantasy and symphonic textures about battles and mythology. However, and here's what I find quite interesting, it's arguable that both Power Metal and Thrash Metal began with Queen of all bands! Queen were doing fast Metal songs in their early years, most notable Stone Cold Crazy from 1974, of which Metallica covered and is considered the first Thrash Metal song by many. However, several months earlier that same year, they had an album that is often retrospectively seen as the most overshadowed Queen album, despite reaching the ears of many soon-to-be Power Metal legends such as Blind Guardian. On that album, there was nothing but fantasy and artistic tragedy-inspired lyrics overtop symphonic narrative-inducing heavy metal instrumentals that have later been described as early steps into Power Metal. The most notable song that fits this is Ogre Battle! Soaring harmonies and heavy suspenseful riffs with lyrics about mythical beings in battle, it quite literally screams Power Metal, 2 years before Rainbow went Power Metal with Ronnie James Dio and 8 years before Iron Maiden went Power Metal with Bruce Dickinson!

Oh yes, greatest song ever! I enjoy other hearing it for the first time, the intro still gives me chills everytime. About the quote of Lars killing it, I agree. But on top of that he's the engine driving Metallica forward from the day one. And the thing all the haters don't realize, there's a reason why he has credits on almost every Metallica song. Dude's a master in arranging music. Also these songs wouldn't sound the same if they had some other drummer playing, check for example Mike Portnoy playing this. He's a beast of a drummer, but his style just doesn't compliment this song. Hope you listen through the whole record, it's a banger!

If you have ever seen an old movie where soldiers take a big pole and slam it against a castle gate, that is the Battery

My first concert was Metallica in the summer of 1986, tail end of the Puppets tour. Best concert of my life. I have been to over a dozen Metallica concerts since. Life long fan. BIRTH SCHOOL METALLICA DEATH \m/💀\m/

If I remember correctly, The Battery was the name of a bar where they first started becoming popular.

Dudes, I like your channel, very entertaining. So, I once again ask you, it becomes an annual tradition now at this moment, to do Opeth - Forest of October. Appropriately for, well, the month of October!

Fun fact: Battery is about a person addicted to their vibrator. Proof is from interviews and a good friend of mine used to hang out with them. (I've seen pictures of my friend, Kirk and James doing powdery things off the back of Kirk's guitar way back when)😉

I’ve said this a gagillion times, Lars maybe never be the greatest or one of the greatest drummers ever, but his stamina WILL be top notch! Especially live!

Lars said himself he is not the best or technical drummer in the world..HE HAS HEART!. He just wanted to play bars on the drums doing cover tunes getting all messed up.....OUTSTANDING VIDEO.

The Thing That Should Not Be will blow you away if you check it out. It's probably my favorite song off Puppets and that's a high bar to reach given how iconic the album is.

In case you were wondering, the main club they used to play at in their early years was called the battery club, that's what this song is about

People hate on Lars because he COULD play like this,then he quit giving a shit. Power metal came from the same influences as thrash metal minus the punk. NWOBHM,and Priest/Maiden/Dio. Some good power metal bands to check out are Gamma Ray,Powerwolf,Helloween,Stormwarrior,Warlord,Accept,and Enforcer. Edit-add Manowar,Savatage,and the Swedish band Oz to that list.

Good question if power metal have some thrash roots. One of the big founders of power metal is the german band Helloween. The released an album called Walls of Jericho in 1985. The Singer/guitarplayer Kai Hansen was a big Metallica-fan back then and the album Walls of Jericho is a mix of thrash/speed and power-metal. Check out Ride the sky with Helloween and see what You think. :)

I'm pretty sure the rockabye song being mentioned in the beginning is Shawn Mullins. I don't know how I remember that...maybe all the MTV lol.
