A full analysis on the music video for Pt. 1: The kidnapped individual was a 'defendant' in a 'trial' with the psychotic Ren accusing him and acting as Judge/Jury/Executioner. Ren's character, through the song, goes on to explain the individual's crime: being part of a money game - a twisted game where people are divided and suffering for the sake of wealth. People who are willing to exploit their peers get ahead, and other are forced to do bad things for survival. Each time he gets close to exacting punishment and killing his victim, he stops to continue explaining more ways we twist our lives for that wealth. He even symbolically draws eyes on the head sack to signify that the victim isn't blind to it: the captor has 'opened his eyes'. He has no excuse and deserves this punishment of death. Finally, with one final attempt to do the deed, Ren's character realized the futility of what he's doing. Looking in the mirror, as per the lyrics, he is also part of the money game. And so, he puts aside his holier attitude and burns himself to death instead. As he said, as assuredly as the whole world turns while playing this game, the whole world burns as well.

Ren is 33; both his parents are extremely intelligent with mum being a singing/voice coach/teacher and dad is a psychology professor at university. His father also plays stringed instruments and plays mostly 12th and 13th century court music. Ren has the perfect upbringing to be who he is as an adult.

His name was Thích Quảng Đức and he set himself on fire as a protest against the persecution of Buddhists by the U.S. backed South Vietnamese government of Ngô Đình Diệm, a staunch Roman Catholic. Photographs of his self-immolation circulated around the world, drawing attention to the policies of the Diệm government. John F. Kennedy said of one photograph, "No news picture in history has generated so much emotion around the world as that one."[3] Malcolm Browne won the World Press Photo of the Year for his photograph of the monk's death. ( I stole the exact words from Wikipedia) but as I know it’s correct and yes RATM used it on the cover of their self titled album. Interesting I’ve had images of that album cover blocked on a lot of social media platforms just referring to it as an influence album. It’s not a nice picture but it happened. Oh the Ren Rabbit hole! Its such a fun journey! You guys need to check out his band The Big Push! Their mashup of I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop is amazing. They followed that up with an Ozzy and Rage mashup, War Pigs. They do a rooftop session to Bongo Bong that is amazing! His collabs are tremendous as well. Ren x Chinchilla Chalk Outlines and How to be Me are amazing. Humble and Ocean with Eden Nash should have been on the radio! In the 1830's The Shell Trading Company began selling exotic sea shells. They imported tropical shells and sold them as shell bejeweled boxes and such. As the importer (Marcus Samuel) was able to control the flow of shells and manipulate supply and demand. His son's inherited and began also selling kerosene and eventually the Shell Oil Company was born and still exists today. So this video using selling sea shells is amazing. (and also based on historical fact).

Oh this gonna be good .. I'm @ 0:20 so far but I know what's coming .... lets follow along shall we? :) First thing - everyone asks at some point, that is in fact Romain in the hood playing the guitar That trigger scene is badass isn't it? The way they let it sit there for a moment to really kick you in the head The way he uses the scene to drive the words home in a way that so many 'directed' videos fail to accomplish that... I love the way he's humming the tune and singing to himself while drawing on the eyes, it keeps the continuity of the song going That end scene for part 1 always messes with people ... 'NO!' that chorus .... man .. anyone who can sit still during that chorus and not bop around even the least is either in a coma or dead Hahaha ... oh man, that reaction to the first phrase of the rhyme ... and yes, Shell Oil did in fact start out selling sea shells amongst other goods Man... that was a fun little trip through the musical and lyrical mastery wasn't it :) Even the songs I'm not so much a fan of are worth a listen ... which I can't say for a LOT of artists

Smokey right on. The joint he just dropped, Animal Flow, is based around Orwell's Animal Farm, which is about the dynamic your talking about. It also makes sense as the rebellion leaders in Animal Farm were the pigs, who eventually became corrupt and hypocritical, and thus the metaphor we now know and Ren uses consistently. He is pointing out the root of that metaphor

It’s very clever. He is a smart guy. Marcus Samuel founded Shell, it was an interior design company and he imported ornamental shells which got very popular. When he died his sons took over the business and expanded into the oil game. Namely exporting, but it was hard exporting in barrels so they bought a load of steamers to ship in bulk and the rest is history

SMOKEY!! My man, you are the only reactor I've yet make that same connection, I'm not sure if that's exactly Ren's motivation for the end of part 1, but I'm betting it was a least part of it. It was a South Vietnamese Buddhist Monk, Thich Quang Duc, the act is called self immolation. He did so in front of a couple hundred onlookers, including 50 nuns there to support the monks. 2 days earlier, the newly U.S. installed South Vietnamese President, who outlawed all religions except Catholicism, had sent troops to break up the monks public day of worship they do on Buddha's birthday, and the soldiers ended up shooting and killing 7 monks and 2-3 civilians. It has been said, Quang Duc entered such a deep meditative state, while being doused by a fellow monk, that he didn't move a single muscle or make a single sound until after he took his final breath and his body slumped over from tissue loss. The photo, which was in color, technically became the first viral photo ever, there was a copy of it on JFK's desk less than 24hrs after it happened. It became an international symbol of resistance against oppression , similar to the raised fist made popular by black power movements. Rage Against The Machine also used the image for the cover of their debut album. Great reaction guys!!!

The origin of the Shell Petroleum name can be traced back to the seashells that Marcus Samuel senior imported from the Far East during the late 19th Century. When his sons Marcus junior and Samuel were looking for a name for the kerosene that they were exporting to Asia, they chose Shell. Also DeBeers did the lock em up make like there is a scarcity for Diamonds. DeBeers, founded by Cecil Rhodes in 1870, has been a highly successful and effective controller of the diamond market, having developed a unique purchasing and marketing cartel that has influenced prices in the market virtually undisturbed for almost a century. But the biggest trick they pulled was creating the concept of a Diamond engagement ring. Funny thing, multiple times a girl might get engaged before getting married & 2nd hand used market is crap as most end up thrown in a lake. Diamonds have an actual low intrinsic value not like gold or silver, they devalue by 50% immediately after retail purchase. Prior to DeBeers engagement ring "A Diamond Is Forever" campaign in 1948 only 10% of engagement rings had a Diamond now it's in the high 90's. Let's not talk about chocolate at Easter or Xmas presents.
