Great overview. Thx for this. I just do not see need for that input change on AVR, since it should get HDMI CEC signal and switch as soon as you press any button for controlled device on remote. Unless you have CEC turned off.

Well, part of the issue is many things just stay on all the time (Apple TV, Tivo) and the other is that I initially tried using CEC (many years ago when I set up this DVR I had a bunch of issues with CEC so I did disable it). Mostly, we use AppleTV so it's only occasionally I have to switch the input anyway. But you are right in that in many cases with CEC you shouldn't have to do that.

Also, have you figured out a simple way to turn on all of your equipment and also wake up the Apple TV using a Macro? I know they recomend pressing and holding the home button to wake up the ATV. I am hoping to get a macro to do it.

We primarily use Apple TV at our house for everything - I have a Macro - I'm trying to remember off the top of my head - I think I have it turn on everything then emulate an Apple TV Home/Menu Button press than wait half a second and do that again. Something like that...

Hi Eric, I currently have a U1 and really dislike the Scrool wheel on it. It actually awful and never returned the remote to Amazon. In your opinion, is the scrolll wheel on the U2 better / really good? Watching you use the wheel, seams way better than my experience.

I can't say I had a problem with the scroll wheel on my U1 when I was using that one so it's hard to say the U2 is better, but it does work fine for me to get to whatever source I want. The screen seems a tiny bit different on the U2 and the firmware is certainly updated so that might provide a slightly better experience. I do love the scroll wheel personally - it's faster to get to what I want to control than any other method I've seen.

I've been "sitting" on a new Sofabaton U2 for about a week considering whether or not I was going to put it into service. You've convinced me to give it a try, I'd been working within the Harmony environment for decades but our Ultimate One froze and nothing I could do revived it. Although we do have the HUB / App I detest using my phone as a remote. The Apple TV 4K remote will control the majority of my devices as long as CEC is left on but then my amp (Sony STR-DN1080) has a mind of it's own. I've been setting up macros on the power button for each device and tweaking delays to dial it in. Are you turning "ON" the Apple TV with the Home button? Thanks for the great video .....

I never turn Apple TV on/off. It basically goes into sleep mode on it's own. So then for "power on" sequence, I just include a Home button press for Apple TV because that "wakes" it.
