Have you read Poe's humor short stories. I believe one was called "He Lost his Head" ...Poe funny...

Is it amazing? We live in a different time, when it's neither fashionable to mourn nor acceptable to do so for "too" long, no matter how much loss you've endured. Poe's life was fraught with rapid-fire losses and perfect love never quite achieved. What's amazing is that his brilliance was never dampened by it and was ever enhanced by it. Necessity may be the mother of invention, but grief is the great enabler of poetic brilliance.
@TheMollyPitchers
@TheMollyPitchers 2 жыл бұрын
@@inkadinkadoodle temperament can differ greatly on how we deal with grief. Poe was a creative, so naturally his temperament leaned heavily into melancholy. Tragic loss was a usual part of the 19th century. They dealt with it far more than we do as 21st century Americans. My grandmother was born in 1890. Her second son died when he was 2 years old of typhoid. One of her many losses. She carried the casket on her lap on the drive to the cemetery. After the funeral she cooked the evening meal for the family. Of course I admire Edgar Allan Poe for his creativity and the struggle he had with loss and depression. I admire my grandmother for more for gently, getting on with it. I think Poe probably would have agreed with me, especially because he was a gentleman.

Arthur Dark, this is an amazing film. The research you've done and the subsequent story you tell is so professionally done. You've exposed us to details of the life of Edgar Allen Poe that is not taught in school. My wife and I have watched all of your Hollywood Graveyard videos and have recommended your channel to many people. Your work shows respect for everyone featured. Thank you for your channel and for the dedication to your work. We wish your videos would be published more often, however, we realized the time and effort these videos take to produce. Arthur, we had a viewing for Westminster Hall staff and selected friends today and everyone is thrilled with your wondeful homage to Poe and his women. Comments such as "mesmerizing," "perfect," "seamless," "enchanting," and "hauntingly beautiful" were some of the words used to describe your masterpiece. Your attention to detail and historical research is second to none. We are so excited to share this film with our audience on Halloween. Thank you for sharing this film with your viewers. To say that this was excellent is not saying enough . As a native of Baltimore and a lover of Poe's work I can't thank you enough for this presentation and the hard work you put into it . On a chilly overcast November day many years I found by accident his grave in Westminster Churchyard and walked through and looked at the old tombstones and mausoleums and while I was the only living person there at the time I did not feel alone . Part horror and autobiographical. The voiceover, the score, the cinematography; the whole thing was well put together. You obviously have some skills to be reckoned with and you need to be making full length feature films. QUICK! Somebody give Arthur a no-look, hefty percentage of profits and final cut approval deal! @@oliviataylor4793 I disagree, it's a GREAT bio of E A Poe. I did a term paper when I was in college of him and although the teacher didn't like any of Poe's works, he did consider him to be good writer. And I was the first student in all his decades of teaching who picked Poe to write about. He was fair, I got an A- on my paper. I half expected him to give me a lousy grade, but he didn't. But I do agree with you, this channel really isn't for young children per se. I grew up very close to a graveyard but never had any fears about it. Just saying, it depends on a person's maturity.

Dear Arthur, Longtime commenter on your videos, I wanted to say personally to you. Thank you for your passion and dedication to this topic. A little about myself. I am currently in my late 30s and I was adopted, raised by a wonderful family and a rather traditional household and with values that I hold to this day. Through everything that I have experienced due to my disability - I am in a wheelchair. I have learned to ask the bigger questions, even with my upbringing. I believe it is completely normal and okay to confront our mortality, nobody did that better than Edgar Allan Poe. Although his circumstances for doing such are utterly heartbreaking, I cannot help but relate. --- As a person of deep faith. I am always asking myself the bigger questions, the deeper questions, the questions that will not go answered by any normal recourse. Edgar Allan Poe was one of those people, like the rest of us flawed and imperfect but gave voice to the chaos that bubbles underneath so many of us, even when our upbringings are as varied as the stars. As I write this I can feel the tears welled up in my eyes because I can relate to Edgar in certain ways, searching for the ideal love, wanting to idealize what it means to be loved and certainly asking the bigger questions about life and death, and I do that through my prayers. --- I want you to know that your material all kinds of people, don't pay attention to the view counter the likes or otherwise. Your work is leaving an impact, and much like Edgar, it is profound for me. I admit that my arena does not gravitate towards the dark or macabre. I was a musician for many years. My faith has always been imbued within the foundations of my upbringing, beginning with my great-grandparents and perhaps that is why this piece of material you have produced is resonating with me so strongly, we are both light and dark and even though we wish to reside in the light or as people would say, "be a good person." We are constantly battling against the dark and Edgar Allan Poe knew it well. So do I.... Music has always been my way to express myself. Indeed, it was one of the things that help me find my voice to use my words to defy my physical constraints of my wheelchair and move beyond what people see, at least verbally. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this produced video which in only an hour. Reminds me why you are one of my favorite creators to follow.

Fun fact; Children would also follow Mr. Poe about and he would flap the tails of his coat like the wings of that bird and it would amuse them and himself. Also, a fact about that missing trunk; the Poe Museum has acquired a letter which confirms why Poe did not have his trunk. The hotel in Richmond where he was staying had kept it as collateral against his bill. The key, however, was found with Poe himself.

This was amazing! You captured the beauty, art and pain that was Poe. The layers that you eloquently and respectfelly unraveled revealed a man (albeit a boy) who wanted to be loved. The critical thinking, research and chronological compilation is fantastic. Bravo Mr. Dark to you and your team! Mary Shelley next!

Thank You for making this film. As a college student I studied Poe and never fully understood him. He was such an incredible writer and poet. The dark days Poe experienced were something beyond the any imagination.

This was genuinely one of the most informative, terrifying, intriguing, tragic, beautiful spectacles I’ve ever had the privilege to witness. A true tribute to Poe and the very nature of gothic iconography.

The first Poe documentary I ever saw was one on the History Channel in the mid 90's. Since then I have seen many more, both good and less good, and this one right here ranks as one of the best.

Possibly one of the best documentaries I have seen to date. Hopelessly a Romantic. Life and Death was around him.. Love.. Always so close.. Just Out Of Reach. Never viewed Mr. Poe in this manner. Bravo!! A Standing ovation for this production. As a student of the Arts.. 🏆my compliments🏆
