When Jeremy passed away, I was devastated. He's been my Holmes from the first moment he played him. I loved other versions, like Basil's, but this was the first time they did the stories as they'd been written, with costumes, characters, and sets, that were perfect. Everyone was spot on and everyone was brilliant, but none more so than Jeremy. I still miss him.

It was .. different! so funny. there was ' the mystery of the spoiled cheese' in which my sister and i argued for 20 solid minutes while she also attempted to bully me into finishing it, until Lyria tastes it- "Its Spoiled!" so silly. took a detective.

So, on knpr, he told a story about hom and the ( director ? ) having a dinner where Brett say " Listen we have to do SOMETHING differently, we cant JUST redo sherlock holms, everybodys seen it all before, we have to find a hook." and director ( maybe ) guy say, ' Jeremy, ok look ; Youre just an acctor, thats all youre supposed to do, so you just focus on that." Annnnd Jeremy found himself launched INSTANTLY UPRIGHT ( by the power of actor outrage ) and he said, " My Denver Sole slid into his lap!" Jeremy was .. well alot things happening there, ykwim? bemused spontaneity, surprised, and epiphany! ' thats whats missing!' that impulsive compulsive thing that takes hold, the drive behind addiction.. yeah. sometimes the guy would just start climbin a wall, " Ohhh, check it , yo" and Watson, " I say, Brah! what the devil up with that?" lol ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

What most people don't realize is that being a soul mate doesn't always mean a sexual relationship. It can be between people who're the same gender or opposite gender. It's about an energy connection that allows people to communicate on a level deeper than any "normal" relationship. Yes, there's love - that which will lay down a life for another - it surpasses all understanding. But, it does not always denote a sexual relationship. As an FYI.... I am a woman married to a woman so I have no issues with LGBTQIA relationships. Indeed, I adore the ship between Crowley and Aziraphale especially as played by David Tennant and Michael Sheen. They're like an old married couple in real life. Or take Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen - they're so cute together. It's rather sad Patrick Stewart is Straight but I would say they're soul mates. I've been reading Holmes since 1981 and watched the Granada series when originally aired - Holmes is an avowed Asexual and Watson was married twice. They're not in a relationship of a sexual nature but they do have a relationship that's beautiful and that even death couldn't destroy. Holmes underneath it all is a volcano just waiting to erupt given the right ingredients - Irene Adler for example. Laurie R King touches on the "heaps of sa" that Ronnie observes to Russell about him. Even Burlington Coatfactory touches on it in Sherlock. There's plenty of fan fiction out there about him and Molly Hooper. Jeremy Brett played him as a "Thinking Machine" but also gives us the emotional, untapped Holmes as well. He is the epitome of Holmes.

@tgriffin3059
@tgriffin3059 11 ай бұрын
@@One.Zero.One101 Absurd. Brett is extraordinarily overrated in this role. In fact, I think a lot of his 'popularity' is because of all this ridiculous gay subtext. Holmes and Watson were Victorian gentlemen. Neither would have had any interest, or tolerance, for homosexuality. The mere HINT would probably summon a prompt pummeling. And Watson was clearly an ardent, if somewhat naive, admirer of the female of the species. Brett was simply not right for the role. He in no way resembled the physical description. And the Holmes of the books was eccentric...but Brett, by way of contrast, is WEIRD. And, frankly, a repellent figure. His odd clammy, unhealthy pallor, his vocal tone, his facial expressions...I've read every Holmes story, multiple times, and this man is simply NOT Holmes...The fact that he is so heavily hailed in the role tells you a lot more about our contemporary mores and fetishism for anything perverse than it does about the character, himself...

i just LOVE seeing the similarities in the characters' movements, actions, and small details between this old Sherlock show and the newer BBC one. edit: I forgot to add that benedict and brett's voices for holmes are so similar :o

I read somewhere that it actually WAS quite common for men to walk arm in arm out and about in London before the Oscar Wilde trial made people suspicious of male relationships/paranoid about appearing gay. Can't remember where I read it so I don't know how reliable it is.

ah yes it was VERY VERY common for two men to be soulmates like this in the victorian era in higher society, much less in the working class (as you could imagine) what WAS unusual was the behaviour of the two, since sherlock is such a strange man and watson is a pretty respectable doctor, who stunted his professional work just to run around investigating not only that, but holmes was really the first to be going CSI of any modern sort and THATS why they get weird looks and judgements from other people, and why the modern sherlocks delve more into homosexuality, since capturing this deep connection would translate to the modern ideas of a romantic relationship
