Hey all! Just wanted to add a few notes since this was obvs recorded before I had more info on the polishes; These are apparently supposed to come with a wide brush!!! Thankfully I didn’t complain much about that in this video lol the formulas were nice & easy to work with, but yeah for whatever reason I got skinny brushes in mine. Also these polishes do dry down a bit textured but were completely smooth to touch after applying a glitter grabber and glossy topcoat! I also experienced light staining with Never Tide Down after wearing a skittle for a few days, but nothing too bad :) still don’t agree with it being a jelly tho, it’s more of a tinted base imo similar to Holo Barista shades. Also loving Tax Haven a bit more now that I saw the rum and Coke inspiration lol 😋🍹

“Tax Haven” doesn’t evoke vacation vibes for me….now if they gad CALLED itRum and Coke (or cola), that would have made it more appealing. Names can be very powerful in conjuring up associative feelings and I think sometimes brands lose track of that.

One of the main things I love about Holo Taco is the fact Cristine cares about the international collectors, being an Aussie it’s painful to be unable to collect other brands because the shipping is more expensive than the polishes. I always grab every collection released by Holo Taco, her polishes are a conversation starter. Especially in my town. Haha.

aw I mean i think it’s a little unfair to make it sound like other brands (esp smaller indies) don’t care about international or specifically Australian customers, like you said its super expensive so they probably can’t afford it! :/ but i’m not surprised Holo Taco is able to afford those costs so you can get allll the holo 💿🤩 glad to hear you grabbed this collection too!

I was also a little confused about the brown shade, but after a number of collections/drops that seemed a bit blah, I was excited for this brand to do something more interesting. I was also VERY happy to hear that this collection comes with the wider brush, but what you showed looked like the skinny brush? Maybe the PR sets are slightly different…

yeah for sure, definitely still appreciate these darker shades & they’ve grown on me more after wearing them altogether! but yes i’m more excited about the new formulas tbh, i saw people mentioning this is still the same color story as previous launches and thats totally fair to say but these are just so fun finish wise. and yeah I think it was just a mixup on their end!! one of my friends got 3/5 wide brushes in hers lol maybe it was a last minute decision to change them 😅

Never Tied Down, Private Villa, and Beach Please are my faves in this collection and give me vacay vibes. The others seem like fall shades and I wouldn't wear those colors in summer. TFS! 🏖

I got the entire collection but do agree with you that a lime green would've been much better instead of Tax Haven. She could've saved that one for a different launch. Now I'm drooling over an imaginary green with a similar formula to Private Villa...

Happy to see live swatches for this collection already and to see HT put out collections with different formulas! Late Checkout is so so pretty with the flash, it reminds me of like fairy lights or fireflies during summer nights. I also like Never Tide Down, I'm such a sucker for aqua blue-teals, but feel like I can maybe dupe something similar with my bottle of Poseidon's Prize and some flaky toppers. The rest aren't really my jam and I feel like the overall color palette is weird for me. I get the angle of the beige sandy color and the brown, but I just want more color for a summer "vacation" collection, especially as a seasonal wearer too. I also find the red-pink doesn't match with the rest of the polishes when looking at them altogether (maybe I'm just biased cause I am not the biggest fan of pink toned reds lol). I wish the base was a more of an orangey-red with the same pink reflective glitters to have a bit more contrast with the glitters and give a summery sunset sort of vibe. Overall glad to see some more complex polishes coming from HT without them being limited edition!

yes SO excited about these formulas!! I think they’re so fun, even if i’m not loving every color rn. omg i totally can see the reflective in LC looking like fireflies!! ugh if these were in a deeper green base that would’ve been more perfect for me (even tho that doesn't scream vacation, just summer lol). but yeah I honestly shouldve tried recreating NTD by layering the mooncat shades, or even playing with some flakies and toppers like you mentioned, overall i think it has a lot more tiny flakies and glitters but you could still recreate the general feel i’m sure! but omg i couldn’t disagree more about a bright red-pink for summer, i love them!! 😝🌺 i’m usually not a fan of orangey reds but i totally would see that fitting well into the summer theme too, especially if it was a little lighter so the pink reflectives can pop more! but yeah overall so fun to see these new formulas, I wonder if we’ll see any of them for launches later this year!

for what its worth i think the only real jelly in the collection is Private Villa! i know NTD and BP have the tinted jelly bases but they end up covering your nail line bc of all the glitters and flakies. if the bases were more opaque you’d kinda lose some of the glitters! but i’m excited for you to get the purple at least, it really is so mesmerizing!

of course!! ahh sorry i didn’t think of showing that in the video, I’ll share a comp to my IG stories (just DM me if you miss it!) but I would say Snake Charmer is a bit of a darker green than NTD, and it has more holo micro glitters in it with no flakies, so overall theres more of a rainbow sparkle to it while NTD is sparkly from the crushed gold and iridescent flakies. ETA: the differences are more noticeable in indirect/indoor lighting, in the sun snake charmer looks a bit more blue/more similar. i hope that helps!

Also agree that the color story is a bit odd. Like where is the GREEN? The dark purple with orange is such Halloween-y combo that it's hard not to see that and think that polish was added to this last minute. (I saw the vision board but I still don't get it)

i’m not eve a huge green lover but I find myself missing them esp from HT releases. a lime would’ve been perfect esp with a margarita/mojito as inspo! and yeah totally agree about the purple, seeing the moodboard did help me see the reference but it almost felt forced? bc purple & orange is just so heavily associated with halloween, but kudos to her for trying to make it work this early in the year i guess lol makes me curious for what we’ll get later in the year 😝

Beautiful swatches! I really wish the collection was all like the teal polish formula. I know we're all different and I'm just not on the 'reflective glitter trend' and prefer holo. I've been a fan since her first release, but unfortunately this will be the 2nd collection i won't be purchasing. 😢 I was really hoping for holo micro glitter formula at the worst, but the teal is beautiful. You spend so much time swatching the least we can say is thank you! 🤗 If she only had one shade with the reflective glitters, I probably would have been more willing to splurge on it. I believe her anniversary had the reflective topper and the rest were holo and other formulas I would be more willing to wear...I know they aren't probably going to do this, but it would be nice if the offered collections similar to this with and without reflective glitters like BKL and Cuticula have offered. Hopeful thinking, but would be nice for those of us who prefer non reflective. 🤷‍♀️... I really thought this collection was holo micro glitters from the teasers she showed, especially the purple and sand ones. I would love more colors in the teal formula for sure! This whole collection would have been beautiful in it for sure too! I'm not picky, I love iridescent shimmer, especially glitters in this color types. I'm especially loving the indies that have been releasing the larger particle shimmer polishes because we don't have to worry about brush strokes. Polish struggles, right? 🤗🤪 Yes, I'll definitely pick up the teal from this collection for sure... oh, I was very surprised by the brown. I agree on the deep brown….odd color choice for the collection. The range of colors reminds me a bit of the At Sea collection from ILNP a couple years ago (still one of my all time favorite collections). ILNP also has a color Sandcastle that I wear in summer that is perfect for that beachy sand feel. How are the Holo Taco micro glitter polishes to remove?

yeah I wish it was a bit lighter to match more of that tan leather luggage color from her inspiration lol but ooh I can kinda see that! I know i saw someone mention this blue reminded them of ILNP Blue Lagoon from an even earlier summer collection too, I wish I had that one to compare but yes definitely also get similar vibes from the sandy shade! if anything I think ILNP has an even finer/daintier glitter effect. i didn’t find the microglitter especially hard to remove like their chunky glitters, but there would be a few glitters that would still cling here and there

I was so excited for this launch! But after seeing it I’m super unimpressed. The only two I was even considering are Never Tide Down and Private Villa. But I have Hydropower and Party Punch already. I was hoping you would do a comp of Private Villa and Party Punch. I think that Late Checkout and Tax Haven are pretty but don’t really scream vacation or summer to me at all. All in all I think I am going to pass. I almost wish they had done all jelly sparkle formulas like Private Villa. That one seems so pretty!

Private Villa is a bit lighter/more pink and while a diff formula it overall has a similar sparkly look. I totally agree tho I would’ve LOVED if this whole collection had the same formula as Private Villa!!! Fingers crossed the summer collection next year will be like that 🤩

I’m not really married to certain colors for different seasons. Idk much about Cristine, but it doesn’t seem like she is either! That said, I totally get why people are 🤔 about the timing of these colors, esp when they’ve been in development for 2 years. Why waste an opportunity for some great autumn releases? I was looking for a color like the teal for my collection, so I was psyched to see that. I also picked up the brown and blurple. I’m in love with those. I don’t care about reflective pigments, but the shifts in those two & the rich brown chrome got me! I’ve not been super excited for HT polishes, but these were unique stunners imo. The sand, im sorry, but that is a huge miss for me FYI about the “jelly” turquoise. Cristine said on stream today that it’s not a sheer jelly. There’s another kind. I’m not a polish expert but I’ll try to summarize! It’s a second kind of jelly that suspends and lets the glitter come through more. I have a couple like that, esp from ILNP, vs cirque where they’re super sheer & even patchy. That one is more buildable. The red/pink one being more of a true jelly is how she described it (I think!😅)

I don't feel any of these shades don't work for summer, especially as I would stick to just one thin coat for several of these (not the beach please though). That would let the Late Checkout's jelly formula look much more like a jelly polish. I feel the kind of brown Tax Haven is, is very stereotype summer in combination with more cyan/turquoise kind of blue.

Yeah I do appreciate that Cristine and other brands (like mooncat esp) will release unique line ups and aren’t always traditional seasonal shades! I esp loved the brown magnetic from winter, just so unexpected 🤩 But exactly I think we could’ve had 2 more bright & fun shades for summer 🥹 I’m glad you picked those shades up though, they really are so stunning! I’m sad to hear you don’t like Beach Please, but yeah I can see it going either way for some people 😅 And oh yes I caught that from her stream! I still don’t agree though lol I would just say these have a tinted jelly base, but not necessarily jellies (similar to the holo barista shades or even Beach Please or like you mentioned, some ILNP or Cirque polishes too!) maybe it’s just “too” packed with glitters and flakies though which covers up the base unlike Private Villa, that one is def more of a jelly! It has an overall more squishy look even on 2-3 coats.

When I look at them separately and dont take season into account I like them, but when I look at them together and for Summer time, I dont!....In all they are ok, but for the price and skinny brush, I can live with out them lol Thank you for a great review!

@@PolishedYogi I have really pale skin so I love the contrast. I have a big issue with light neutrals cause of how light I am. But my complexion can take any color at anytime. I also have a thing about if I love the color so much I will wear it. The brown makes sense because of old fashion luggage so I see the humor behind it. So fun. This was obviously filmed before the launch today, but for Never Tide Down, it is a jelly polish, it's just packed with crushed holo, flakies, glitter, etc and that's why it's not as translucent as jelly polishes with not as much different pigments mixed in. Tax Haven's color is inspired by Rum & Coke and luggage colors. I wish we'd get away from "bright" colors being associated with summertime.

correct! which is why have a pinned comment adding more notes :) but yeah just bc NTD is in a jelly base I wouldn’t call it a jelly. a lot of HT polishes have tinted jelly bases (like the holoday glitters, crushed holos etc) but those aren’t considered jelly polishes. the whole point of jelly polishes is to see your nail line and have a squishy look, or to be layered with other glitters/toppers etc. i do wish she had named the brown Rum & Coke after the inspiration though bc it wouldve made so much more sense! or someone else suggested Tiki Torch which would’ve been perfect too. i really don’t see the general masses moving away from associating bright colors with summer though, especially if you live somewhere with seasons 🙈

Totally agree. For now, FUN Lacquer has some colourful reflective glitter toppers you could check out. They have a very pinky magenta but no hot pink…yet!

I think Late Checkout would have been fine paired with a lime green and Private Villa. I would have liked the Beach Please to be more of a jelly base than a crelly because that beige is not doing anyone any favours imo. Might be great for some beach nail art though... like those resin beach paintings!

yeah thats true! purple, lime and pink is such a fun combo. and thats so interesting, I’ve seen a lot of people not really love this sand color. for what its worth i do think the base is more on the jelly vs crelly side, so maybe its just the color you’re not loving? i know someone also had mentioned using it in one coat as a topper, I wouldn’t have thought to do that with this shade but I might try it! but yes my first thought was this would be perfect for beach nail art lol omg i loveee those resin paintings so much!!

Honestly? do we REALLY need those typical bright tropical collections every year from every brand? I'm just so bored of the bright pinks and corals, there's a thousand of them already as well as every other bright shade in summer, so I applaud Cristine for doing something different and including different inspo ideas into a vacation collection. I absolutelly love that purple and brown, the rest, I couldn't care less, I've seen all of it before. The collection in general makes perfect sense to me when it comes to colors.

Never Tide Down is far from a jelly imo 🙈 it’s practically opaque in the first coat. Which is not how jellies work 😝 but I do loooove the color! I love all the colors except for the sand shade. I think that one is my least favorite.

yeahhh I get it has the tinted base but it reminds me of the Holo Barista shades for example and I just wouldnt call those jellies lol 🙈 but yes the color is GORGGG. and aww i really liked the sand shade! it makes me wanna do beach nail art lol 🏖️

I like the purple and brown… but not for this collection. It just doesn’t fit, imo. Still stunning… just an odd choice.

yeah exactly my thoughts! they’re beautiful for sure but feel a bit out of place.. though i kinda like the brown with the sandy shade, they make a good pair !
