I’m a Hawaiian in Hawai’i and this color story is literally colors I see every single day. This screams island vibes and I especially love the shade beach please because it reminds me of certain beaches with beautiful fine sand that sparkles. There’s a green sand beach on the southern point of my island that is made up of a mineral called olivine and that would make a beautiful nail polish!

I would have loved to see them swap out the purple and pink for a vibrant orange or yellow and maybe a bright green! I think that would make a lot more sense for the color story. But the colors individually are very pretty like I said :)

@@KelliMarissa I 100% agree. The actual colors are pretty but together just are not pretty together. It may be colors others can justify in the collection and convince themselves it is, but together just do not work. In a collection, you want to be able to use the colors all together for either a skittle or other design, but these absolutely do not make sense for what this collection is supposed to be. Separately, sure. Like any nail polish. Together? No way.

Yeah I think there is a big dissonance is people only knowing the skies of their own backyard. Pink and indigo/purple skies evening skies and clouds are not common everywhere but I have caught it a handful of times and seen in photographs. So even if Im not a big fan of this specific palette and aesthetic, the choices are really not that out of place.

I agree with Kelli's swap. The color story is not screaming "vacation" or beach to me. Definitely missing green, orange and yellow. The blue is probably the most appropriate. It's gorgeous!

I also thought it was a strange color story for summer. Not really good for a skittle. A yellow/orange and a warm purple would make it more like the sunset vibe of the box but I'm into the new finishes. Never Tide Down & Private Villa were my favorite and the most summery shades.

My box is coming tomorrow. I think it's cool that they tried something different with the formulas, and I actually like that the color story isn't as typical summer. Late Checkout and Tax Haven would be beautiful for the fall as well. I'm super excited to try Never Tide Down and Private Villa.

I love a good color story, but imo sometimes holding to a strong color story can limit the potential of the individual polishes And to me, this is definitely a beachy collection! I really appreciate that it’s so different from most summer releases (with the exception of the obligatory turquoise :b)

I got my collection box and have a skittle on one hand and ocean and beach nail art on the other using Never Tide Down and Beach Please. Love them! The color story is definitely different but it still says summer to me. Cristine showed her mood board for each shade and it really brought it together for me. I may not wear them in a skittle all the time but so excited about all the different formulas!

This comes from someone in a tropical climate but I personally don't understand the color story criticism. These are all colors I see on beach vacations. Maybe it's just a cultural thing to assign dark colors to colder months that I completely missed out on because we just wear whatever colors we want whenever.

I love the collection. For me the brown was the only outlier. It gave me coke or root beer vibes, but not vacation/beach at all. I think I will like that one more in the fall.

I bought the whole collection, but beach please and never tide down are definitely my favorites! I have a sea turtle themed stamping plate and did some really fun reverse stamping nail art of turtles and shells on the beach and in the water!

I just realized that if you look at the colors on the box cover all of these colors are represented. The Tax Haven color is a bit lighter and less used, but it is there in the umbrella stand and a stripe across the beach. Late Checkout is the sky at sunset.

I felt the same way about the color story but love that they got creative with the formulas and hope that’s a trend moving forward for box collections. As for me I’m a sucker for any teal/turquoise/aqua color so I just snagged the few I liked. Honestly I feel like the Lite Mode collection could have been branded as the beach theme!

There are a couple of shades that I'll probably pick up, but...I also didn't really vibe with the color story. It felt too random with no cohesiveness. I'm looking forward to Never Tide Down though! I like your eye makeup in this one! And the dress definitely matched the color in the collection. I wouldn't have known it was a bathing suit covor-up if you hadn't said it. I have noticed that you tend to match your eye makeup or outfit with the collection you are reviewing. It's a small detail that I enjoy and it shows that you put in effort for your presentations. =)

I think the only color i don't understand from this collection is the pink one, unless the thought process was for those who might use that one as part of a gradient with Late Checkout? Those two would make a pretty sunset mani that would remind me of summer, especially with the reflective glitter. On that note, the Tax Haven one I think, or at least it reminds me of this, looks like a brand new shiny penny. Maybe, just theorizing, it's meant to represent the taxes you might pay in a different state of the US? Idk, that's my take away to be perfectly honest. This one and the pink one feel out of place to me. Late Checkout just reminds me of the night sky during summer, so I don't really have an issue with that one. Or maybe I'm just coming up for a reason why that makes sense for the color story? Those are the only thoughts I have on it, but that's what makes sense to me anyway. The colors and formulas are very pretty and vibrant, but I think only three of them make 100% sense to me.

Just received my set. Haven’t used it yet but do completely agree about the theme. I had the same thoughts before watching your video. Looking forward to wearing Beach Please and Never Tide Down together when I switch out my mani this evening. UPDATE: I did Never Tide Down on all but my ring finger. Then Beach Please on that. Did a nice wavy stripe over the length of my ring fingernail with the Never Tide Down. Turned out really nice.

I just got mine today. I was actually thinking the colors don't flow as a set like previous sets do when I was looking at them together so I agree with the color story not really working. That being said if my nails were currently grown out I'd be wearing Beach Please, however, I'm currently working on getting them longer so I put on Tax Haven & Late Checkout for now (my nails are very short at the moment)

as a big holo taco consumer i totally get it. I didn't understand the color story either, it was kinda confusing, as usual, i still got them all since i'm a collector but i did feel a little disappointed they didn't go after the beach vibe a little stronger. Sea shell colors, coral colors, certain tropcal fish color, etc. a couple of them were a little...questionable (still beautiful, just not vibing well together)

But they should make sense as a collection or else they should just be individuals. The colors together are not very pretty. I’m sure if you ask someone completely impartial to Cristine and holo taco and asked them what they think the theme is, I’m sure they’ll say something like 80s? Neon? Not vacation beach vibes lol. Colors are nice individually but so what? Any nail polish is nice individually lol I wish there would have been a nice yellow or orangey instead of the same old purple and pink ones. The other three fit (except maybe a little lighter for the brown one) but the purple and pink are so wrong for this collection. But of course they’re top sellers in terms of colors I guess.

Color schemes dont exist in silos only applicable to one theme. Why do you think people go to indie brands anyways? If you want mainstream preferences and tastes, go to mainstream brands then. And tbh I’m glad she didnt go for the cliche and stereotypical choice of using orange and yellow. Purple and pink polishes may be more common (across most nail brands too), but orange and yellow have been over done to death for summer collections. If I wanted another orange or yellow for a summer collection, I would check out every other summer collection for that. Their beige and gold flash reactive is enough to fill that gap anyways. I normally don’t care for most of Holo Taco’s collections but this has been one I’ve been genuinely impressed with because how unique and original it is, even if its niche. I agree the skittle manicure doesnt look great but I see the colors looking great for nail art, especially stamping. You complain about how “all polishes look good individually” but how many people are actually using all the polishes in a collection all at once and not individually? Even Kelli pointed out its a minor thing so I don’t get how you are treating this trivial issue bigger than it is. Its fine if you don’t like the color palette as its not my aesthetics either. But you’re trying way too hard in making your subjective personal preferences sound “objective”. Your comments on this collection come off as bad faith so it is ironic that you talk about being impartial to HT.

In my opinion, this is the first collection from them that actually feels like an indie release. Their linear holos are gorgeous and I've liked most of their (non-creme) polishes, but everything else in their permanent catalog has been fairly basic until now. My box is getting delivered tomorrow and I'm excited! I am really sad about the wide brush, though. I'm strongly on team skinny brushes and it feels like she might be leaning towards just making the wide brush the standard one soon. :/

If you want to have skinny brushes for polishes in general, KBShimmer, Cupcake Polish, and Glisten ‘n’ Glow all sell just the brushes and stem(?) for like 30¢ apiece. You do have to dismantle the brush as a whole but it was a game changer for me with so many brand brushes.

To me this is a beach color story. I live in south Florida and these colors are so Miami and beachy. It’s definitely a more island, tropical beach vibe, which is a very specific type of beach vibe.

I'm putting the purple on my nails now and I love it! You're right, it's kind of weirdly thick. I'm SO happy it came with the thicker brush, though. I don't really think that's fair because it wasn't exactly a beach collection (although their promo photos/videos were very beachy). It's a vacation collection. Some vacations are on the beach but others are in the woods with a beautiful night sky. I do agree though that it seemed like some of the colors didn't go together. I would put the pink, blue and sand one together and then the brown and blue/purple ones together. I still love the collection though and can see wearing all of the colors.... just not all together.

I've had these on my mind since I saw the promo videos, and literally want them all!!! They are SO CUTE!!! 😍 I've never seen them in real life, but the one I'm most drawn to and most excited about is "beach please" (the sand one) but I would totally wear one color per nail, to wear all five at once on each hand and foot!!! I actually find that all of the colors are cohensive and go with each other, but I think this is a cultural thing... fun fact, Christine is Canadian, and so am I! All of these colors resemble the elements of summer in Canada- the sand beige, the turquoise from either pools or the sky reflecting on the lakes, the red from the Adirondack chairs and maple leaves and the fruit punch, the brown from tree trunks and nature and docks, and the purple from berries in the forrests and bushes... there's a lot of "woodland" lake environments here lol. For me it makes total sense and is totally cohesive, and doesn't look out of place in the slightest to me... but again that's kind of an environmental thing that I'm used to, living with lakes and forrests and such 😊

I saw another swatcher make a similar comment about the color story, but I totally get the purple as part of the sunset and the darker brown as colors of the sand and beach flora. This is a beautiful set, and I agree that blue is EVERYTHING!

EMOTIONALLY, the color story makes sense to me. But technically, you’re so so right, it really doesn’t make sense. The brown really doesn’t work with the rest (though it’s really pretty). That being said, I love the new formulas, especially the aqua. My philosophy with reflectives is that the pigments need to look beautiful even without the direct flash, and I think it works. I hope this is the beginning of a new direction for Holo Taco. The cremes and chromes can be found at drugstores but these are SO unique!

See I’m the opposite in that I was the least excited for Beach Please cause it just does not flatter my skin tone whatsoever, it’s a really neat formula and I think it has lot of potential but this color just does not look good on me!

I feel like this is what i expected from holo taco from the beginning. Like i appreciate that you can use the toppers over the cremes but i feel like having so many cremes went against what cristine was always talking about.

100% noticed that you match your make up, I was a bit surprised today with the green since there was no green polish in the collection, but I thought of maybe for palm trees or another review you were filming with greens. The clothes I tend to pick up more on colour so today was very obvious you were wearing a beach theme (I thought blue for water and a sunnier colour).

I think the red/pink should have been swapped out for a sunny yellow or a juicy orange, I think it would have better tied the darker shades of the collection to the lighter ones because they echo some elements from each other (gold is prominent throughout, apart from the turquoise which obviously is the sea). Private Villa is nearly indistinguishable to Party Punch for me, I think that's the shade that makes the collection look messy.

Yesss! I’m so excited to see your thoughts on the collection. I wasn’t sure what to think of them from the launch video or swatch photos, but seeing them in person wowed me. Late Checkout and Tax Haven are my standouts (they’re both going to be so good for fall!) and I hope formulas like these start to become more common for the brand.

I'm so happy they're releasing some fun finishes now that they've covered most of the basic shades/finishes now, I can't wait to see what they're gonna do in the future! 🤩💖 Love the shirt and your makeup! But your eyeshadow makes me kinda mad that they don't have a green in the collection! i would love to see more like Never Tide Down in other colors. also, totally noticed the outfit choice as soon as the video started. i usually notice your choices to match, say a very galaxy style collection with stars on your shirt.

The vibrance here is amazing! If you are ever looking for a comparison video to do I am curious on ILNP UP ABOVE and cirque colors snow cone or whatever light blue jelly they have. Those blues seem like they are similar but maybe not.

Thank you for the review!! 😊🙏 I don't buy Zoya polishes anymore, but I still have an old bottle of Godiva kickin' around somewhere, and Beach Please intrigued me because of the texture description. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I adore a soft sand texture (when it's intentional).

Kelli did you hear ORLY'S oh My Stars from the in the spirit collection is a hidden magnetic polish that they didn't advertise as magnetic but it is a beautiful magnetic. My cousin and I found it out this last week when we couldn't remember what Holo taco polish was a magnetic. We sat the magnet down near by and we saw it change. Talk about a Galaxy nail polish try magnetizing it and check it out, we changed our whole plan for our matching manicures after that. It's absolutely gorgeous, I don't know why they didn't advertise it as a magnetic. But I did love the surprise 🎉 like when OPI had the green and gold that were also magnetics. My cousin and I want to do a manicure with these hidden magnetic polishes since we found this last one. Our unicorn polishes that were so much more than what we were told they were. Okay I'm rambling my bad just still so excited this black magnetic is just so beautiful.
