Holo Taco vs Mooncat | Which One is Better?

I agree with a lot brought up - Mooncat gets a more niche and adventurous with colors, though I love HT's openness in the business side of things and some of their stuff still feels extra special and curated thanks to how collections are launched.

I like Mooncat better as well. I love the aesthetic. They have beautiful fresh experimental color. I’ve gotten 8 free polishes from Mooncat. You get points for leaving reviews.

I'm shocked that you think Holo Taco's reward system is better! I see them as far more stingy. The birthday polish is nice, but that's the only freebie I've ever gotten. Meanwhile I've gotten 6 free mooncat polishes plus a free nail tool. With Holo Taco you can get points for ONE review every 4 months... At mooncat, you can leave 2 reviews per day and you can quickly get tons of points. You don't even have to buy or own the polishes to leave a review! Also, Holo Taco doesn't change the reward polish as often as mooncat.

Yes as I’ve mentioned before Mooncat rewards are a dark forest to me. I find Holo Tacos way simplier (hehe) to use and I love the variety of products more than getting only nail polish! I am usually very unlucky with Mooncat rewards since the polishes I get for them are almost always meh. While I get you posting the reviews to get some point I personally don’t go that route, because I focus my energy on my KZbin reviews rather than writing reviews on their site - I don’t really have the wish to do so. So for me the only thing where I get the points is by buying polish. I just see many more bonuses with Holo Taco in my case :))

Isn't that kind of terrible though? Why should you be able to leave reviews for a brand if you haven't bought the product or have had any experiance with thier custoer service? Seems like it just encourages people to leave fake reviews so they can earn points and get free product. And considering how many issues they've had over the years of people saying thier product photos don't match the Polish they get, thats a major red flag to me.

For me I still love the system cause I review honestly and it allows me to basically triple my reward points and be more likely to get a free polish next time I pick something up. So selfishly I don’t want them to change it but I definitely understand the concern and I’m just hoping people are not leaving fake reviews too much

I love both brands and agree with you . Magnetics from Mooncat are ELITE!!! Where toppers and glutter in Holo Taco is incredible. I think disco dust and everything taco are two of the best toppers ive used. Great video!!

Mooncat objectively has a better reward system. 1 point per dollar spent, 100 points per review, 2 reviews allowed per day, 1 polish from the rewards is 800-1200 points, you get a code for a free tool every 3 $70+ purchases, not to mention-not really a reward, but the shipping threshold is lower. VS HT’s 1 point per dollar spent, 10 points every 4 months for a review and a reward point polish is 200+ points, shipping threshold is higher…it’s much more difficult to get points at HT than MC. I’m sitting here like “Love you, girl, but how is it better? Where is the evidence?”😂 I can buy 8 mooncat polishes and get enough points from that single purchase to be able to buy polish with points. Meanwhile I’d have to buy more than 12 polishes to be able to get a HT polish with points. I did not realize how 💩 HT’s reward system was until I started looking at other brands’ rewards. Even Cirque’s is better than HT and I can’t stand Cirque.🤣

@PopCorrie Well that stinks. Is there a free shipping threshold/is that 50 dollars more? If there is a free shipping threshold, I’d imagine Mooncat would still come out on top after a certain number of polishes. I love both brand’s polishes, regardless. Though now I do wonder if the fact that HT’s free shipping threshold is higher and the rewards system is less rewarding, allows them to charge less international shipping.

@ sorry yes. HTs free shipping is 99 dollars. Mooncats free shipping is 150 dollars! I love both too but sometimes i just lean more towards HT because it’s just a bit easier to get to that threshold than mooncat

I’ve owned Mooncat polishes awhile and love them all . I didn’t have any Holo Taco untill the Mixed Emotions Thermal collection came out . A whole collection of thermals I had to jump on board and I’m not disappointed they are lovely tfs your review ❤ The Star Wars collection has to be the coolest polish collection I’ve ever seen . Yes I keep my thermals in the fridge as well , working well .

Overall pick is holo taco for me cause how simply interacts and certain formulas is phenomenal! I loveeee mooncat (ppg collection is awesome to me) and I do think they have better shimmers and magnetics! But Simply X Safiya is still my favorite collab ☺️💕 and birthstones are fantastic!

Agree on the shimmer situation...give me something I can SEE! I do not care for HT's subtle underglow shimmers...so boring. I have to use a topper on HT shimmers.

I love them both, but if I had to choose I would pick holo taco. I love the collection boxes and how simply engages with her customers. But I do think Mooncat has a better reward system. Holo taco only lets you get points for 1 review per quarter

I appreciate these comparisons. I've been curious about Mooncat's top coat and base coat; it's good to know how they compare to HT products (which I already have). However, I didn't hear anything about Mooncat's broken bottles. Did I miss you covering it? If not, I don't see how we can do real comparisons between Mooncat and HT when Mooncat bottles aren't safe to use. 🤷‍♀ The Mooncat subreddit has had more broken bottle posts as recently as a week or two ago.

I own over 300 bottles of mooncat and have never received a broken bottle or had one break. Yes it happens, they're glass. But buying from the brand is not unsafe.

I think those happened due to overfilling and shipping during summer. They made a formal statement about no longer overfilling and replacing the glass bottles with thicker ones. I’ve never had one break though except when my postal service guy smashed the box and dented it in. I was surprised only one broke from how smashed the box was. That’s something I don’t see mentioned on the reddits but sometimes I think it’s just the postal services fault.

@@riversullivan2160 I'm glad you haven't had negative experiences with MC bottles. That said, other people have, and I think that should be mentioned. HT, ILNP, and other indie brands do not have the issues with bottles like MC does.

I've heard HT cuticle oil pens leak excessively and are wasteful. I would say neither brand wins for nail oil. I would just save money on nail oil and buy jojoba oil. Save your money for the items you really want and need.

Really appreciate your opinion & well thought out comparison of these 2 amazing brands! I myself don't feel like I can make a fair judgment of HT bc i probly only have about 15 from them. But mooncat i have a LOT more lol. I feel you 100% on the HT thermals.. those looked absolutely AMAZING! but unfortunately it was released during a massive heatwave here & i was afraid to spend all that money only to find my polishes dead on arrival. 🥲 i hope she makes more thermals.. only not during the summer! 😅
