Of course Munkács was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, then after the defeat in WWI it became part of Czechoslovakia. In 1938 it became part of Hungary, then in 1945 the Soviets annexed it and it became part of the Soviet Union. Today it is part of the Ukraine. My grandparents were going through the same as these survivors are talking about. They were very happy that the Hungarians were coming, by the way, because they were Hungarian-speaking Jews, but of course that changed rapidly.
