I feel like people who live modern lives in big cities are often times so detached from nature and that causes a shock when they learn where the meat they eat actually come from. While those who live in rural areas often raise their own meat sources before eventually consuming them. This is perhaps why vegans mostly emerge from the city more than countryside. It's all just about how early we learn about how nature works.

That's funny... when I was a kid, my dad once did the exact same thing to me by letting me eat a slice of seafood pizza without telling me. Stupid kid me legit thought the shrimp topings were just big chunks of cheese or something. And my dad just kept staring at me, waiting for a reaction.
