I think you’re right, and it could be because a lot of the earlier holomems (at least in EN) weren’t established streamers (or in the case of Calli, streamers at all). It makes sense that someone who had some more time as a streamer (Shiori, Biboo, Fuwamoco, Cecilia, Gigi…) would be able to hit the ground running at a more sustainable pace

Yeah the thing is most of the early ones go hard into that RP nature of having a character and lore and stuff, but that's definitely not for everyone and certainly even less people will be able to keep it on long streams and such. So over time they lose a bit of that "fake persona" in favor of themselves. Maybe a more excited and content-ready version like Kiara or something, but still themselves. Nowadays I think most accepted vtubers have years of experience so they can nail it down right away + their character isn't that far off from their own selves anyways.

It's not that hard to add an umlaut normally, but many creative fonts used in marketing and the like are designed with only the standard English letters in mind. So those fonts often won't have include letters with umlauts and subsequently default to a standard font that does have them when someone tries to include one, making that letter look out of place.
