I keep a lot of inverts and I live in a big suburb outside of a major city. You can order just about anything online and have it shipped to you. There are a ton of websites where people breed inverts and reptiles and sell them. Just try to get something captive bread if you decide to get anything. They're actually the perfect city pet imo. They need very little space, very little attention, and they don't smell as long as you don't let food rot.

Insects are so cool, sure there are some that are pests and a nuisance, but beetles, are probably my fav variety, so many, and a lot of them are super chill. I remember when I lived in TN for a spell trying to figure out life, I'd always go out after dark to find Hercules beetles and other big ass buggus like mantids and what not. Was always fun to watch my friends freak out as I just pick up a massive hercules beetle, and then seeing their faces go from shock to genuine intrigue as to how the thing can be so calm. It's also funny to tell people I hoard daddy long legs and wolf spiders where I live currently, as they do a damn fine job at eating the pest insects, got a few big ass wolf spider females wandering around my office, sometimes they just end up on me and all I can do is pick it up, watch it freak out, then calm down, and then I put it somewhere else, that's not on me. Ah bugs, love them, hate them, they help us.

6:13 have a bunch of these in my collection. Catch them, let them die with age (they sometimes grow, especially if you feed them properly) then when they're dead, i release their body into the ant colony (a pseudo colony made with at least 30 worker ants and a false queen) under controlled circumstances and the ants clean them up. It's a pain to assemble them back together, kinda like the world's most tiny puzzle, but if you're careful with the way you set them up in the ant colony, they don't dismantle it too badly. This then lets you preserve them perfectly. No fungus, no potential issues with stuff that might grow inside and eat the specimen after... the only issue is you can't release the ants back into the original colony. The potential for damage is too big.
