Honest. This is when it gets overboard and unnecessary. Let her walk in peace. I understand it’s out of respect and loto mafana, but they’re causing more of a hazard for the princess.

You don’t need to lay on the floor to show her respect.

It's a long story but dates back centuries. All commoners were always to stay below the royalty and nobles of the day. To fall at their feet is to show your obedience and belittle ones self in order to show you honour and respect them. It was once said to be touched by royalty was like being touched by God. Metaphorically they were handed this power through God. Hence the Tongan emblem - Koe otua mo Tonga ko hoku tofia. Which means from God and Tonga I descend. Many people love the royal family and there are some who wish not to get involved. Tongan people will always show respect to everyone just not like this as this is only for the royals. weddings and other special occasions too are done playfully as this. Tongans are not the only Polynesians that do this. 🇹🇴🇹🇴🇹🇴🇹🇴

Aries Aries well said. Another example is Hawaii! Great Aliis and of their royal court could not be looked upon by common eyes. In the presence of the alii(king) one must bow on both knees and look down. Some alii chose not to do this, but others went farther as to stab out the eyes of those who lay theirs onto the chief. They could also kapu body parts that the chief doesnt want anyone to see. If u violate the kapu. Death is usually the consequence.

If you bow to you're so called god and have only meet him in spirit and not in real human form then you're bowing to thin air now that's foolish lol

What kind of human deem is appropriate to walk on their own people? Like literally walk on top of them. Don't care what the traditions are. Disgusting!

Lahla Nina I don't see her forcing them. I see her delicately stepping over them. Why can't you accept a different culture for what it is. Different. Americans are so gauche.
@JT-wh3dy7 жыл бұрын
I completely agree, even though I am Tongan myself, it's so degrading.

only a Tongan that’s born in Tonga would know, understand, and respect his/her culture...keep your opinions to yourself if you couldn’t cope with it..and you’re asking what had the royal family done in Tonga??? Let me ask you, what good have you done for the whole nation???
