The QD battery drawer is so that you can change the battery, in the field, without tools. The user is far more likely to be replacing the battery in the field, where no tools are available, than he would be to remove the optic from the firearm.

For those coming to this in the future, the tint is due to the coating being used to reflect the gold dot. It is made to be reflective at yellow wavelengths but not other visibility wavelengths, the result is that odd almost blue-green almost red tint. The other color fits will not have this color. Many dots with no tint simply use a weak mirror and that just drops transmission overall.

I know is soon to ask, but i have the 512 in back order and I'm also keeping a close eye on UH-1. Could it be possible you can do a table top comparison between the 512 and the UH-1? You would probably be doing the only side by side comparison video in You Tube(as far as I know) dedicated for the 512 vs UH-1 👍

I said this on the last video and I’ll say it again - please do the Holosun ACSS red dot and Holosun 3x!! You talked about a competitor to LPVOs and this one literally has BDC marks. Comes in at around 14oz for the whole setup and is functionally a FFP lpvo. Also I’ve heard the vortex micro glass is nothing to brag about so I’d especially love to see the Holosun 3x

I find this better than green or red. When you compare green and red, they are exactly as vanished and often even more unseeable on bright background and often washed out because of too bright, Gold Dot is my favorite everwyhere aslong its not a desert

The tint is what gives you the extended battery life. It means the led can use less power and still be bright...thats why sights like the leupold delta point pro with its much clearer glass has such a comparatively short battery life.

Great video. For me, based on your video, I dont like the way the reticle disappears on lighter backgrounds. Also your comment on the egg shaped reticle is something I have seen in my HE512C red dot. I thought it was my eyesight because I could pull my eye away and come back on and it would be a dot again, long enough to take the shot. Your photography showed what I was seeing perfectly. Thank you.

I’m in a forest/farmland environment. I fear the gold color could blend in with autumn leaves or farm crops. The summer/spring/and winter months would probably be fine but fall might pose an issue. Then again I have a green dot on my pistol and I’m not worried about it blending into greenery so maybe I’m just worried about nothing.

same here. They are nearly as clear as my prisms. Aimpoint is a close follow up but still burts a bit. Trijicon, Romeo, Bushnell, etc all burst like crazy

That’s surprising about the dot. I have 4 holosuns and the dot is absolutely perfect and crisp. Not sure if its a defect or something with the Gold version as all mine are red

My HS512C with a red reticle doesn't have an egg shaped dot or at least it doesn't have one that I can notice with my vision or the HM3X magnifier.

Thanks. It's 100% user preference. My eye picks it up better then either green /red. It never looks overly bright. And it contrasts against all environments I have.

@@philipstrotherjr8842 Its certainly not going to fit that roll ideally. Go with a smaller 507 if you want to stay with a Holosun. But that is still quite larger then the likes of a FastFire or a Venom.

Give me the512 in a red reticle. Have a HOLOSUN 509T red circle dot and love it. It sits on my RUGER 57 pistol and the circle reticle 6 o'clock positions are great for 75 and 100 yard shots with that flat shooting 5.7 x 28 cartridge. I WANT IT ON MY FN PS90 CARBINE. Its circle will be a hell of a lot easier to see in bright sunlight than my damnable Vortex SPARC iI 2 MOA red dot !!

Thanks mate! Hearing prism makes me feel that there will be more distortion to the glass then lets say, a true 'Red Dot'. I would prefer my non magnified optics to be as true to life as possible. And as non obtrusive as can be.

This Holosun 512C is on my TS 12 Bull Pup shot gun. At the range the Battery case came out without me noticing as the dark conditions in a indoor range not the best conditions. So I called Holosun with a answering machine telling me to E Mail them. E Mailed Holosun telling them the Battery case came out before I noticed at the range. Asked for a replacement Battery case with the handle - NOTHING ! So if you expect customer service FORGET IT. My sight was registered on their sight when I bought it ! Reply

Many reflex's will have tinted glass. From my understanding it is to help show the reticle when looking thru it.

Comparing apples to oranges. This 512C is a red dot and no way can compare to Eotech's holographic sights. With a 3X magnifier the 512C 2 MOA oval becomes a 6 MOA football. The 2 MOA holographic dot remains a 2 MOA dot with any magnifier. I have astigmatism so the 512C large football becomes a big smear. No way to hit anything at distance.

Yea man I've said the same thing about this optic, why tf would you have a QD for the battery especially when the battery life is so good and have no QD on the mount doesn't make any sense they dropped the ball on that one. And also I wish it was lower 1/3rd or able to be converted to lower 1/3rd or offered in lower 1/3rd and not only offered in absolute cowitness I hate absolute co..
