I was 15 the first time I visited West Park. I made my 2nd retreat there almost 50 years later. It truly is a sacred space, surrounded by God’s handiwork. The view overlooking the Hudson River is breathtaking. And you get to see the Amtrak rolling up to Albany and then to its final stop, Toronto. I always compare Holy Cross to other monasteries I’ve visited and, so far, none can compare.

So, I am Roman Catholic. I really enjoyed this video, and pray that the Holy Spirit continues to flourish in this community. The Spirit is with you all; I can see it on your faces. Thought I was called to monastic life, but it lead me into sadness and depression and physical illness. I guess when God says 'no', God means NO! I have healed after this conclusion was drawn, but I often wonder if God is leading me to being an actual hermit. Who knows? God will let me know when it is time. Peace, Love and Joy to you all.

Brothers can you tell me how you chose the habit for your order?
@bdelcourt6 жыл бұрын
Hello Stephanie. Our habit has been black early in our history. We chose white at a time when we had missions in Africa, as the white habit was somewhat cooler. Various Benedictine Orders have either black (the majority) or white habits. The habit is composed of an ample tunic, a long scapular and a belt. The life professed brothers also wear an ebony profession cross on their habit.

For those moaning about some Anglican religious orders adopting the Benedictine Rule, it is worth remembering that according to the creed of the Anglican church ' we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church'. The word 'catholic' means universal and does not just apply to Roman catholics but the church as a whole in all its forms. Why spend your time sowing seeds of hatred.

All religions are paths to the divine. There is no absolutely correct path
@DeFyYing2 жыл бұрын
@@debbieolin8153 I personally disagree, I think to.say such is to say that truth is relative. Religions have doctrines and ontological views, different explanations of morality and what is considered good or bad, different descriptions of the Creator(s) and what they are like, and different sources/methods of Revelation from the Divine to humanity. I just don't think a door can be opened and closed at the same time. It's possible that the truth is in a religion. It's possible that the truth is in a different religion. It's possible that the truth is in no religion. But I don't think it's possible for the truth to be in multiple religions when they say different things that can't simultaneously be true, in my opinion

The country has changed. Some are doing well, others are not. Google tiny house movement, minimalist living, and living off grid, to see extremes some are going to so as to have stability in their lives. I lost my good home and God has provided a lesser home. But it helped me change on the inside. If it helps people give up consumerism madness and seek spirituality then it can't be all bad. So maybe you all are an example of how to overcome what life throws at you. Maybe you can think outside the box for fund raising or a different approach. Praying you keep your morale and fortitude. I know a country club who takes 30% commission on artists art. The artist sets the price. They have a bbq and sell booth space for vendors and sell the art at the event. That is how the country club raises money every year for renovations. Maybe an idea will come to you. Dream!

They can run around in all that high drag all they want. They don't have the real sacraments .
@karenmacqueen94605 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry for your misunderstanding, Thomas. The sacraments of the Episcopal Church are as valid as those of the Orthodox or the Roman Catholic Churches. The Orthodox Churches recognized the validity of Anglican orders and sacraments decades ago. The orders of the Episcopal Church come down through the Scottish Episcopal Church, which never experienced an interruption in apostolic succession. Since the early 1900s, Episcopal consecrations of bishops have taken place with Orthodox and Polish National Catholic and Old Catholic bishops as Co-consecrators. No one who understands anything about the history of the liturgy or the sacraments any longer doubts the validity of the orders in the Episcopal Church. So don’t be afraid. Holy Communion and ordination as well as the anointing of the sick and reconciliation are all just as valid in the Episcopal Church as they are in the Roman Catholic Church. And it is simply not charitable to refer to the monk’s simple habits as “high drag.” Would you say the same about the monks of Taize? We need to be known by our love for one another.

Paul said, "I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified." CHRIST, the Divine Son of God and Savior of the World, was his ALL-Christ's glorious person and his finished work. But in this video about the life of these monks, who have presumably devoted themselves to his service, His precious name was never so much as even uttered. That, I believe, speaks volumes.

GOD DOES NOT "ACCEPT PEOPLE AS THEY ARE." YOU MUST REPENT TO LEAVE THE 'OLD MAN' BEHIND. LEAVE YOUR PERVERSIONS BEHIND; LEAVE YOUR HERESY BEHIND. THE RULE OF BENEDICT ALSO MAKES IT CLEAR THAT NO POSTULANT IS TO BE PORTER; THE PORTER IS TO BE A WISE OLD SENIOR OF THE MONASTERY.

Always hilarious watching Anglicans/Episcopalians appropriating Catholic religious life. Not only is this imitation of actual Benedictine life absurd (Benedict would never approve of such a mockery of monastic and Catholic life), but the attempts at sacramental life are illegitimate.
