It's a slimming color on all body types. Often the color of formal performers. Keeps dress simple for a church that may be televised locally. The viewer is drawn to music over the clothing choice of performers.

Also Black is a primary color and most clothing manufacturers do the color black thus gives a person more options to have something that is a good fit and keeps the color scheme..Also when the choir color is the same color across the board its is less distracting to the audience as well..
