The monastery of Korbovo, dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin, is built on a steep site at an altitude of 100m approximately just outside the village of Lagadia (formerly Korbovo) on the southern edge of Antichasia, at a distance of 15 kilometers from Trikala. The monastery was men's but from 1972 until today it functions as a women's monastery.
The name Korbovo seems to be more Slavic and was probably given in the 14th century, when the Serbs had occupied Thessaly and all the surrounding areas.
There are very few written testimonies that shed some light on the history of the Dormition Monastery of Korbovou. Not a single document was found in the monastery, from which one could derive some information.
According to these testimonies, the Monastery dates back to the Byzantine years.
The original location of the Dormition Monastery was not the current one, but where the small church of the Transfiguration of the Savior is today.
The ruins of the old monastery can be seen on the rocks. During the tradition, the icon of Panagia Korbovitissa was found up there in a recess. To the right of the current ruins there are two or three caves, which apparently were used as a hermitage. At the opening of a cave, a kind of bearing is built, which is an indication that it once housed monks.
