HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE 1: The Origin of Germany - The Germanic Tribes, Charlemagne, Luis the German and Conrad I
HISTORY OF GERMANY SUMMARY
The History of Germany begins 500,000 years ago, when the first Homo Heidelbergensis were installed in the place. After the passage of various Neolithic cultures, the first Germanic peoples settled on Germanic soil: Cimbrians, Teutons, Batavians, Frisians, Bructers, Usipets, Chatti, Swabians, Marcomanni, Quadi, Cherusci, Rugii, Lombards, Goths, Burgundians, Vandals, Alamanni ...
After the barbarian invasions that ended with Western Rome, the Franks managed to create the Merovingian kingdom, and Charlemagne would follow them. This guy managed to be crowned emperor after conquering large parts of Europe. At his death, his grandchildren would divide the territory, being Luis the German, the heir of the eastern part, what would be called Germania.
Finally, after the death of the last Carolingian, the dukes of the different duchies of the kingdom (Franconia, Saxony, Bavaria, Swabia and Lorraine, or Lotharingia) decided to name King Conrad I, and then Henry the Fowler, who would be the first king of the Otonian Dynasty. His son, Otto I, would be crowned emperor in Rome, thus founding the Holy Germanic Roman Empire.
