NYCB actually has a great portfolio of Multi family loans in NY area. I think they just got ahead of themselves with their 2 acquisitions. They have been the target of a take over multiple times. They have some great assets. They just need to adjust to the rules and regs for banks with the 100+ billion in assets

Don't think Kevin really dug into this one much The outflows were explainable and only 2%. Most of their customers are under fdic limits, not much a risk of flight They had to start doing this due to the regulations of being a $100B bank. They'd why the 552m comes in. U also can't annualize a 16% drop in a quarter to 64% for a year. If they dropped 16% every quarter...it would still only be 16% for the year.

Ooof. 2023 could be the appetizer for bank failures. 3 banks failed in '07 just like '23. Jumped to 25 for '08. Between '09-'11, it totaled nearly another 300 more bank failures. There's certainly a scenario where that happens again, today, with just different main contributing factors to the economic crash. Commercial vs home (although home defaults will still factor today), and credit card defaults are exponentially worse today than in '08.

The FED should totally cut rates already, but ... they just won't. They'll continue to play their games, probably BS us again with "we're monitoring the data", but it seems they are very picky which data to consider. Bottom line: The FED will continue to be late to react, as they always are and when they finally do cut, they'll sadly need to cut more than they would if they reacted already. S-A-D.

NYCB had a loan portfolio of 90% CRE pre-acquisition. Their “risk bailout” lowered that mix to 70%. It was never a matter of if, rather, when. PS - IR margins for all banks are low. Interest rates may be high, but loans reprice at a slower rate than debt. Shouldn’t be your smoking gun.
