To clear up your doubts about the air filter, the stihls: 038 magnum, 380 and 381, were the best professional chainsaws that stihl has ever launched, this said by logging professionals all over the world. I own a 038 magnum, it is 20 years old, it has already cut hundreds of tons of wood and it is like new, always with good maintenance, cleanliness and rich mixture gasoline.

It is a pro saw. It's just an older model. The captive bar nuts is a newer change.

The 038 was a pro saw. Just old school. In the 0 series saw if the last number was even then its pro. On the ms series is the second number is even its pro. The 038 was a beast of a mid range pro saw. The u.s.f.s loved them because they were the perfect size for the grunts to clear with.

I have been running about 3 tanks a week through mine. 24" bar and it is my favorite saw for firewood. All .038 parts have fit for fixes and maintenance. Holzforma is the only way I could have such a capable saw.

That is a pro saw not all of them have that, they aren’t captive because it’s a pretty old saw that stihl doesn’t hake anymore

The 088 doesn't have captive nuts. The original one of what you got was a pro saw your just used to the modern ones.

I got a 388 about 6 months ago and have cut a lot of firewood with it. After it was broke in I adjusted the carb a little and wow it really has great power. I love the saw and as of now I would highly recommend one.

They all "run" just fine and all the same basically. I'd buy the saw that suits your application best. The 366 would be way more than enough for general firewood work usually kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2Hbc4V6o69oh68

Those things are completely garbage the only thing that's close to a clone of a stihl is the 72 cc that saw probably weights over 20 pounds were my stihl ms 462 a true pro saw only weights 13 pounds

This saw featured in this video is a 72cc they arent junk. Maybe not 100 % exact quality of a stihl. But great for the orice.
