I am going to tell you what my local Stihl tech said about the ms 880. One came into his shop recently with a 60” bar and chain on it to be fixed. Jimmy fixed it but he could not crank it. Jimmy is a big boy, like you. He told the owner the next time he brought it in for service he had to stay with it to crank it. Jimmy said he was about 6’7” and weighed close to or over 300#. Jimmy told me it about took his arm off trying to crank it. Jimmy is about 6’2”, 240#, so he is no weakling. This ended any delusions I might have of building the 880.

They just need to get it over with and make a 250cc saw that we can customize and have some serious fun with. I may be wrong but I am pretty sure that if they made a chainsaw that size they would sell a boatload of them. They make all kinds of 250cc machines so what is keeping them from making something like that?

Nice saw Walt! My back, my Ibuprofen inventory, the fact that 660s are 11 lbs lighter, less than half the cost and are more versatile powerheads for the average guy makes me say I'll pass for now. Maybe it would be nice for wide slabbing but my 660 works fine for that with a 42" bar cutting up to 36" wide slabs.

I know I am going deaf but I thought that the last few vids were I am getting to old I need lighter saws. I think I need to get the hearing aids serviced to I need more horse power and weight. Just the thing for some light pruning and clearing brush along the fence lines. If it’s like the stihl saws I use for cutting fence posts like you I love them for the raw horse power. The 880 s are great saws. And all I can say is have fun and enjoy.

Is the side cover magnesium ? Will a 880/881 side cover fit ? Weight vs 880. Blocking and milling with 40"+ bars is where that low down power works. Just to big for EDC tree work. Most of the big stuff here on Long Island can be done with 90cc saws. Now you "need" that 3120. Have a few rescue saws that run 404/.063 chain. The jump in size and weight lets them take abuse 3/8.050 chain can only dream of.

I can’t believe you had nice words to say about a Stihl! When they bring it out as a kitI may get one. I like to build them, then I know how to fix themifIever have to. Theme-880is a brute. I have plenty of bars for Stihl saws. Ibought two new ones for my 372- bothOregon PowerCutbars. One 20 inch and one 24 inch, 3/8,050,72 and 84LPX chains. Both cur well. ,I just did not want to put an adapter plate on my 372 and use one of my Stihl bar and chains on my new Husky.

Surprised? Why? I am not a zealot like some on the Stihl side, I just call it as I see it. Certainly have said good things about the Stihl Bar's for years, the ms660's for years. And the 461's. Husqvarna is usually a better price/performance option for the saw classes I buy for me...and I have better access. AND the cost of parts is way less and I don't have to go to dealers to get OEM. Lot of reasons the Husqvarna brand grew into the primary use saw for me over time, even before I was friends with Bob. This new 565 is case and point actually, Bob sells them in the under $800 dollar price range. What Stihl can u buy for under $1000 that will even be close to the performance/long term reliability & maintenance cost of the 565? I can tell you from working on this stuff from both brands.....there is nothing from Stihl that can compete in that dollar / total performance analysis. :) Sorry , or I would have one. So logic, not blind emotions got me where I am. :) I just have more information to work with than most..

@@afleetcommand I am not a zealot. I also call it like I see it. Concerning Winchester rifles and the M14’s and Garland’s;I am a zealot. Great First Impressions, I would love to have one but just can't justify the purchase especially when I have an MS070 with a 36" bar and chain that maybe gets used half a dozen times or so a year. Maybe when and if the kit version comes out I may be more inclined to purchase one. So I'm sure it has some weight to it but is it something you would or could run for a day as compared to the ol man saw eventhough there not in the same league? I Really don't like running my MS070 for long periods due to its weight as it just wares a person down in a hurry and I'm sure some of it is due to the vibration. Staying Tuned in for the Updates 👍

Metal cases. And I put a Stihl 36 on it. Actually the 25 worked ok. Its....heavy for an old man. Have to saw the ms 660 kit with some additions like a Hyway handle bar and better crank. OEM trigger/choke controls, cap selas for gas/oil caps, fuel line, bar studs, etc is really tough to beat as a fun-performance-weight mix.

Their Joncutter line are better for small saws and the g660 is the best sorted out option for bigger ones. I I had to get a 372 style, it would be the g372 over the xt&xp for a variety of reasons. :)

Just interested in your opinion on husky vs Stihl. Why do you choose husky over stihl?
@afleetcommand
@afleetcommand 3 жыл бұрын
Really don't have some predisposition of one vs. the other, although I do have more access to Husqvarna. For me, Husqvarna are cheaper per horsepower & maintenance costs over time so when the cost analysis gets done for the farm. Specifically they win for new saws on that price/performance and cost of maintenance over time analysis with the saw class I buy, 555/562 vs. 362; 565/572 vs. anything in the 70cc class. I'm familiar to the point I can quantify that as I work on both. But as a brand I don't have a preference liking one over the other. The new Stihl's are really cool and have innovative features that is worth something to someone, just when I have to spend my dollars investing in a tool price/performance and maintainability over time wins every time. On the old saws, things get more "equal", my actual preferred ( emotional thing not practical ) are old Homelites and Jonsereds. BUT like a few models from a variety of sources like the L77 Husqvarna and the ms660 Stihl. AND the soon to be obsolete 461 Stihls. Old original edition 365/372's as well, so a little from everywhere. Just like saws.
