Take a look at my single tier brewing stand that uses induction cooktops. This is a unique and efficient way to manage your hot water. The full viewing of the build can be seen in the links provided in this video (I used to use a two tier stand).

I've recently brought a similar setup from a chap within our homebrew community here in Durban, South Africa - but I have absolutely NO IDEA AT ALL how it works. There are so many pipes and connections, etc - a bit overwhelming. I at least know where the mash tun, HLT and boil kettle are but looking for somewhat of a "explanation" as to the inner workings. I've gone from an all in one system (Grainfather) to this new setup

Hi, thanks for watching and your comment. I love the fact that literally half way around the world we can share ideas on brewing. Let me see if I can help. It is a bit tough without seeing your setup to describe it all. Essentially you'll have your mash tun for your mash (sort of like using GrainFather). I recirculate the wort, but you don't have to. From the mash tun you likely need a pump to move the wort to the boil kettle. If no pump, then you can gravity feed it to the kettle and then pick the kettle up and put on the burner (can be heavy). While transfering from the mash tun you'll essentially rinse (sparge) with hot water (175F). Here are a couple of my videos where you can see things in action. These are one way to do it, there are many ways to go depending on your equipment: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5CsfIuFhNSAbrc kzbin.info/www/bejne/hn-ulISlfL-CprM The second one shows a bunch of recirculation which isn't really needed (it is an enhancement). But from these and others you can start to see ways of hooking it all up. Feel free to get back to me with other questions. Best of luck. -DT

have you had any issues with the induction tops melting from the plastic borders being in contact with the pot? or any issues with the glass supporting the weight of a full pot?

Thanks for watching and questions. You asked great questions regarding the cook tops. I have used these for 5+ years in my brewing setup. I brewed yesterday, and in the mash tun I had 24 pounds of grain and 7 gallons of water (~56 pounds) so that is a total of 80 pounds + the pot (another ~10 pounds). No problems supporting that much weight. The glass and plastic have held up over the years too. The only problem with these is the low power. As mentioned they are 1800 W units, and that does great for holding temperatures but not enough to boil. Even bringing the strike temp up for the mash would take a long time in the tun if relying on the induction cooktop itself. I usually heat some of the water inside on my kitchen cooktop (induction as well) and then dump it in. All in all I am very pleased with them. Duxtop is the brand, bought them on Amazon for about $55 each. Thanks again. -DT
