@@williamnorris1516 I knew when i started making you-tube videos it was not going to be the best viewing content, but if someone was interested in watching it, it was good enough for me. Well it is too late in the day "10, 48 am" to do any work so i might go to the coffee shop and see what's new. Cheers Ross

I like how you made the cushion for the toolholder. Simple but looks rly good.

Hi thanks for the comment yes ATC tool holders need a little bit of flex which you get with the fork style holders but I needed two rows to get enough tools in the rack and so had to go pick and place style shoulder bolts and springs easy to do I got the idea of another guy on KZbin I 3d printed the holders which lets you play around with the height and length all seems to work great cheers Bill

A little tip, you should double the holder for the milling spindle. This improves stability when milling.

@@williamnorris1516 Thanks for the flowers😉 You don’t have to hide behind your work either. Anyone can buy one, even the worst ones can build it themselves. Is your milling machine equipped with a Masso control? Looks interesting.

I know wood is pretty soft but good practice is to keep all swarf off tool holders and spindle when swapping tools.

Hi Jordan yes you are correct, the spindle uses an air blast as it is coming down on the tool it's about to pick up and I can adjust this pressure but as well I have an air gun in my hot little hand to clear chips of the tool rack . and now that I have my Fog Buster mist coolant / air blast system set up this will also help and give me time to be more time to keep the tool rack clean thanks for the comment Cheers Bill

Wow this is really great. But what i wonder more is the sound of your machine, why is it so quiet? It sounds like everything runs on air. Maybe a stupid question, i know nothing about machines. I only know they make a lot of noise. A specially milling machines, if the spindle reaches 17-18K rpm it really makes a hell of a noise. You even hear them moving with an anoing electric sound when you just move the gantry for instance, yours doesn't. wow. i'm truly amazed. Does it run on compressed air?

Hi I know what you mean I had another machine that I did a cnc conversion on 15 years ago and the whine of the stepper motors drove me insane and yes cheep spindles can be high pitch and when you combine the two you get a lot of noise and people start to talk about building enclosures with sound proofing etc I did not what that with this build and so went with servos which are almost silent . and when I was researching a spindle I found out about just how quite the Jianken spindles were Piotr Fox Wysocki did a good in depth video using a sound meter to compare a cheap Chinese spindle to a Jianken 2.2 Kw spindle to prove just how quite and smooth they are I run my machine during the day with the garage door wide open and the neighbors never complain I have asked a few of them and they said they had never noticed it at all I am sure I could cut a part at night with out any problems cheers Bill

@@williamnorris1516 thanks for the explanation, you’re right, i really did compare your machines music with the noise of a stepcraft m1000 with stepper motors and a 0,6kw AMB German spindle.

Did your surfacing op hit the screws? I was sad you skipped that part, i was interested in how the inserts handled that. Awesome machine.

Why such a low speed when changing tools? The coordinates when changing the instrument are known, and you can fly g0, with the exception of the last few centimeters of descent.

Hi only finished the machine 6 weeks ago so I started steady with all the setting and have crept up on my feeds two weeks ago I upped my X and Y feed rate from 1500 to 6000 and couple of days ago I increase my rapids from 40 mm/sec to 500 mm/sec and only this afternoon I increased the speed of the tool change cycle so getting there but it's early days thanks for the comment cheers Bill
