This is a very powerful song, with an even more powerful message. For me; coming from a really messed up family dynamic, it hit hard. I am a true survivor, Thank The Lord! Hey Simone, great reaction, thank you. I know all too well that anything can be 'washed out in the water' with His help. Coming from a broken home in the 60's and raised as 1 of 6 by my Dad I related to all of the words in this song. I owe everything, my Faith and my sense of right and wrong to my Dad. Their voices, single and in harmony can take our inner souls to places we had forgotten or to where it had never reached before. They say imitation is a mark of respect, but that can also be a sign of laziness and lack of originality, and that is what most cover individuals and groups are, nothing but copys of original. If a song sucked back their was a reason, and yet if original has a certain something it is worthy of being covered. it is when the few artist cover becomes even better than original due to artis imprinting themselves into it, that is when original song becomes timeless, and not taking anything away from original.artist but adding to them.

I love this song. This is my life so much in the lyrics if I had had the talent to put into words. My Mother was, to put it mildly, crazy and even institutionalized at a point when I was still a child and my father was at a loss as what to do with the disruptive nature of the marriage. Also me and my siblings were never close at all as we wanted to leave that environment we grew up in behind. Beautiful song and Home Free version is the best.

Their stage presrmce is incredible. To hear a song is great but to see that song is best; and when they sing they seem to geniinely be asking the question. To just hear music can move.us but when you see and hear these guys they have ability to add by both their actions and great camera work. what is amazing, this was told to me by a woman damn near 80 years. Who had followed them only on internrt until her son and daughter took them to a live outdoor event. what was it she said? Watching them live upon a stage was nice but she remembered their videos as they sang. That is a powerfull sttatement. and yes she did get autographed picture and a Home free shirt, she says she will never wear unless its at her funeral. Home Free at last.

I would like to recommend you react to "Helplessly Hoping" which is another deep song originally by Crosby, Stills & Nash. They also do a wonderful cover of How Great Thou Art and Children Go Where I Send Thee with Kenny Rogers. There cover of Take me Home Country Road by John Denver is epic. Also, if I may, there is deeper meaning to this for me. When they sing about family I see it as a family of humanity. We rise above it and help each other not just as close blood relatives but as the blood we all share as humans. Irregardless of nationality, ethnicity, religion, or any other perceived difference. We are far more alike than we are different. We just need to remember that.

In the blood of hereditary things... one grows up with physical abuse, or substance abuse, or sexual abuse, or even just being ignored and abandoned. Do we continue these examples in the next generation "in the blood"? Or does it get "washed out in the water" of baptism? That's how the lyrics hit me. God holds the power to change us, to break the cycles of abuse and neglect. Think about this and listen to the song again. May God bless each and every one who reads these words and hears this message. Go, talk with someone you know, who knows the Lord. Ask them how you can be washed in the water and come out the other side breaking that cycle that has held you down or held you back. I love you, and so does God. Seek Him out. He is there waiting for you.
