My take on the whole hat thing is that, Avi is giving the "Hats Off" to Tim for hitting that low massive note. I love Avi, but I've learned that Tim can go even lower than most bass men. Tim also has a 5 octave vocal range and isn't afraid to use it. I love both of these talented men. They virtually have that bass sound down pat, but yet sound so different. Avi is classically trained and you can clearly hear that Operatic sound come through, and Tim has that southern smooth as silk sound, but with a country twist to it. BTW- Some fans think there is some kind of big competition between the two groups, but the truth of the matter is: #1- They are two completely different groups, singing in 2 completely different genres. And #@2 PTX & Home Free are very good friends, and have been for years, just as they are with many other A Capella groups out there today.. Anyway.....Thanks for another great reaction. You are so fun to watch. You get so excited and it makes me smile every single time.

Cindy Flory I agree with every word you wrote. I came here to comment on the significance of the hat thing, but you had already said it perfectly. It's a tribute. It's interesting to note that it was not just a beanie that he took off; it was a PTX beanie. I was mildly surprised at how well Avi adapted to the country genre, but now that I've heard his own work as Avriel & the Sequoias, which ranges from classical to bluegrass, I don't think I'll ever be surprised at ANYTHING Avi does again!

You want something that'll really blow your mind, Avi did a collab with Peter Hollens, a little song called "Black is the Color Of My True Love's Hair". You will have shivers for quite a while after. It also introduces Peter Hollens, who is someone you will probably want to react to also. He, feat. Bailey Pelkman, did an ABBA medley that is really really cool.

Eric & Michele Leid that’s party because Tim sings country which takes a different type of singing then pop, and Avi only “melts” you (that’s a weird way to put it) down to like the A1 or so. I do agree he sounds really good, but Tim from about the G#1 on down definitely sounds better to me. Even though he might not chest everything, his growls sound super good. He also does more of a chest-fry mix usually because he sings country.

Great reaction as always! Check out "Black is the color of my True loves hair" with Avi and Peter Hollens and it's a cappella (they both layer many parts on the song but it's just the 2 of them). That last note by Tim Foust was one of the lowest that can be done in the “growl” register. Tim has a five octave range, and he and Avi are among the few in the world referred to as “basso profundo”...that can sing in the lowest registers. Tim sings like that on Peter Hollen’s “Misty Mountains”. This was recorded before founding member Chris Rupp left the group. He was replaced by Adam Chance, aka “Chance”. Chance is also an accomplished bass, so Tim can now flex his vocal range more often, because Chance will do the bass. I see you’re impressed with Adam Rupp, the beatboxer for Home Free (he founded the group with his brother, Chris)-Adam is widely regarded as one of the best beatboxers ever. The best video to hear him at his best is “Mayday”. That video is a fave of mine because Tim sings HIGH (he does have a five octave range), Chance sings low, and Austin and Rob kill it on tenor. It’s a great recording!

@wbish3: From what I've seen someone say about their VIP question and Tim's answer, Tim has more than 5 octaves now (around 5 and a half) since he's been working really hard on both his extreme low and high notes, and according to his own words, he wants to reach 6 octaves.

The reason Avi's sounds more impressive, at least to me, is that it's very low and also very powerful. Tim's last note sounded very deep but like it had nothing on it, very weak and quiet. I'm not a professional. It's just what it sounded like to me. I personally like his low note earlier in the song better! I like them both. Great reaction

True. I sing bass in my choir and at 17 I can only hit a solid E2. As much as I like hearing them go that low there comes a point where the note just sounds breathy and bad even though still impressive
