I have had my fair share of fruit fly trouble. They ruin all my peaches. But the thing is, the pheromone only attracts the male flies. The idea is to kill off the male flies so that when the female flies lay eggs in the fruit, they are sterile and do not hatch. But in my area, even after killing off thousands of male fruit flies, the females still somehow find a mate and lay eggs that just destroy the fruit. Might just give up on stone fruits and guavas all together. 😐 But I am glad to see you enjoying some good old fashioned time in the yard. Good for the soul. PS: There are hermaphroditic varieties in papayas and they taste really good. I would recommend you grow Red Lady, easily available at any local nursery. You would only need one plant to produce fruit.
