What beautiful horses you have❤️ Haflinger-owner here😉 It's okay for your horses that the grass isn't growing. Drafts and Haflingers are healthier, when kept on 'steppe' like pastures. Those breeds are very likely to get sick, when they overfeed. They get fat easily and are in danger for laminitis (hoof disease caused by too much sugars and proteins) and other digestive diseases. If there's no more grass, you can feed extra hay and some minerals. That's normally all they need😊 Much love from Germany ❤️

I will hope that Floor reads my comment. It’s about horses. It took me some time to formulate my thoughts and translate them into English. First, want to mention, that I came to this channel straight from Nightwish live performances videos selection. I really like this music and the second impulse for me was to learn about the personalities of the musicians I admire so much. The skills of the musician and his personality are equally important to me. Therefore, I came to this channel and was not disappointed. You seem to be a very pleasant person, open, erudite, able to comprehend new things around and able to analyze yourself. I watched several videos about your life and really appreciated your openness. When I heard in this video that you want to learn how to properly care for horses, I decided that it is probably worth giving my opinion on a topic that is close to me. I don’t want it to look like I’m trying to be smart, I’ll just comment on what I saw and add something from my experience. I must say right away that I usually watch stories about horses with great caution. My views on the attitude to these animals do not coincide with the general opinion. But your horses look quite happy. There is nothing more important to their health and emotional well-being than constant walking in the pasture. I have 4 horses, the oldest mare is 25 years old this year. Horses have been living with me since 2004 and all this time I have been caring for them myself. Over the years, I realized that riding gave them a lot of discomfort and I gave it up completely. Over time, I realized that there are people who love horses and there are people who love horse riding. The amazing thing is, the two are incompatible. For me personally, this was a fundamental discovery. It turns out that in order to provide them with a comfortable life, it is necessary to abandon the reason for which we usually get horses - riding. Now I just enjoy their company, teach them different games, but do not sit on them. I have raised a generation of horses that never knew a bridle or saddle and they are completely different. When you are among them for as long as I am, you feed every 3 hours, clean the stalls, then you begin to understand them much better and notice things ordinary people do not see. I really liked the video of the conversation with Marco and specifically in the way you think. This is exactly the way of thinking that coincides with mine. The fact that the conversation about belief in aliens smoothly flowed into discussions about the intelligence of animals is the most logical transition in my opinion, even if it may seem unexpected to someone. Yes, it is difficult for us to understand animals, so sometimes it seems to us that they are not intelligent. But this is not their problem, but ours. Higher mammals have a very similar brain structure and the entire nervous system. This means that they feel like us and in many ways think like us. Of course, they do not use the nominative system like we do, they think in shapes and images, but how deeply and logically, scientists are trying to figure it out by inventing communication systems. So horses, as representatives of higher mammals, are also strikingly intelligent, speaking exaggeratedly, because, again, our intelligence assessment system is not suitable for animals. But I have friends who taught horses to “read” and “write” using the card technique, which allowed the horse to teach our system of sound symbols, that is, letters and words. This is not a trick or something, just a system was invented by which they can be taught this. If you are interested, I will find a video from such a lesson. So the horse began to communicate in a language we understand, and then it was revealed how well they understand the world around them and are able to compose not just a learned word, but also a phrase and even formulate their thoughts. It turns out that if you give them a nominative system, they show what we call rationality in the full sense of the word. And now it turns out that we have inherited the outdated traditions of horseback riding and use these clever animals as a means of transportation and entertainment. We think they like it, but they are not. To understand that a horse does not like being mounted on, you can simply try to do it without using a bridle and saddle. Without special means, a healthy, physically and mentally unbroken horse will not allow this. But usually horse have no choice to allow us to sit down or not. We make the horse endure the man on back. I am writing this to you because it seemed to me that with your desire to study the world deeper and feel it stronger, my opinion will be interesting to you and perhaps you will think about the ethics of riding. I have great respect for you and admire your talent and skills, and I would really like you to surpass everyone in this topic and think about the things that unfashionable and unpopular to think about. I have never posted comments about it anywhere on KZbin, and never bring up the topic of horses among my friends. This is a very complex, ethical topic about who we are, as a species on this planet and what we can do with other higher mammals like us, and what we can definitely leave aside. I believe that horse riding should be a thing of the past, like gladiator fights once, like dog fights and circuses with animals. I just hope that you read this comment and it gives you a reason to think and take deeper look at this topic. I understand that your enthusiasm for horse riding will not just go away, but believe me, this activity does not teach a person kindness and contact with animals. I hope that I have given you a reason for further personal growth and development. Sorry for lot of words, not sure that KZbin allow to post it, but anyways. In finale I want to say and it’s honest true, that my deepest desire is to get to your concert when this pandemic is over, but for now I will save money and watch your channel. Thank you for the magic!

A pro tip from my father, who's been a farmer all his life: New grass actually grows better when you mow down the field. Usually it should be done in early summer, can be repeated later if needed. The field in this vid was neighbour's, though, but if your own looks similar, consider mowing it down. Now all (of the too little) moisture goes to the old plants.
@fixxa64554 жыл бұрын
You can repeat but not too much during summer because of risking it being burned down. Their horses can help with the mowing btw .In general mowing will always help for a nice vast carpet of grass.
@mbo1914 жыл бұрын
Don't cut meadow grass before Midsummer is what I heard. Some species of meadow grass are not perennial but one year only, so if you cut before they have spread their seeds you won't get any of that type next year. But I'm just a city boy who never has done any farming so what do I know... Cheers / B.
@Alishondra4 жыл бұрын
Also consider the compactness of the soil. If its too dense the grass cant extend its roots thus wont grow.
@louhetar43754 жыл бұрын
@@mbo191 You have a point. But where we live, the farmers usually renew their hay fields once every four years or so (plough in autumn, then harrow and seed in the beginning of the growing season), and they seed with hay/grass seed mixtures that they buy. When it is not the year to renew the field, mowing helps the grass to grow better. Maybe there are farming methods where the field renews itself naturally? Don't know about that. I know next to nothing about horses, but I do know that they need really good quality hay, and also that they can even get too much of fresh hay. The summers are getting more dry and hot here in the North, too, and that brings new challenges.
@ziran1234 жыл бұрын
@@mbo191 Yes you are right. But meadows are for growing feed for storage, not to have animals grassing. Traditionally you only let the animals grass the meadows in the fall after taking in the hay. Arias there animals grass year round, you probably should cut, otherwise it will be filled with plants that the animal don't like to eat.

So great to see you working with the horses and becoming a horsewoman. This connects you to so many things at so many levels. If time permits and if you haven't already done so, please have a look at the work of Monty Roberts and Buck Branaman. Monty was in some ways the model for "The Horse Whisperer," and Buck Branaman's Natural Horsemanship is a fantastic source of information and technique. Horses are remarkable creatures with an intelligence and emotional makeup all their own. If you pursue it, they will teach you amazing things about yourself. All you have to do is to listen. As Monty Roberts would say, Join up! A few more thoughts - Never trust a horse 100% They may surprise you. You can never be quite sure that they won't throw a kick for reasons only the horse knows. So never stand directly behind a horse. If you pick their hooves, always do it from the side. And they may swing their head and clock you a good one. Voice of experience here. Always keep a hand on as you move around them and talk to them, as it lets them know where you are. I always spent time with them just hanging out. They're herd animals and they like that. I would sing to my old Canadian mare. She really liked that. She'd lower her head and her eyes would go soft. This will be no problem for you!

The addition of Nature as the background music somehow makes this epic. As Floor says, this pause in the world is leaving a lot of time for music writers. I can't help feeling Nightwish's next album will be 3 years away rather than 5!

Keep these vids coming Floor. They're a balm for anxiety and depression, which, although widespread before this crisis, have become a pandemic all on their own now given the current circumstances under which we are now forced to live. God bless you, your family and the band.

I've been riding horses for close to 21 years now. I discovered the beautiful Floor Jansen 1.5 years ago and connected immediately. Im also drawn to her in a spiritual way. I also discovered that I share the same birthday as you Floor! February 21st! Same birthday, love of horses, love of Nightwish (and metal)... It was all meant to be! Your horses are very beautiful and you can tell they love you! I will never tire of you sharing videos and pictures of them!

Thank you Floor. You really are an amazing world class singer, star who keeps in touch with your fans. We do miss your shows, a summer without any festival or anything is just so different. Beautiful video and just lovely horses and beautiful music. Can't wait for the next story. Tack Floor ❤

“My name is Floor Jansen and I sing in a band called Nightwish”... Sooo cute and funny you thought you needed to introduce yourself!!! 😂 Loved the video!!! 💜 I still have my Oulu and Ziggo Dome tickets in hopes the shows can be rescheduled when all this is over. There is nothing I would love more than to see you sing live. Stay safe and creative!🤘🖤🤘🖤🤘

Seeing how you are with your animals shows all of us a wonderful view of your tender soul. Those who love & take care of our 4 legged friends are truly the world's most sincere & kind people. I have learned alot from watching how people treat pets & animals. Thank you for allowing us to see such a personal insight to your private life! Just when I thought I could not love you anymore? Now This? Cheers from the USA!
