I always loved it whenever the captain would say 'to all Malaysians, welcome home' on the flight. It always made me feel good to come back home from a foreign country upon hearing those words. 💕

I have been living in Melbourne for 5 years now and it has only recently strikes me that I should perhaps go home and be close with my family in Malaysia. It's so hard to leave what I have over here but I really miss my family. My parents told me the exact same thing as the parents did in the video "go find a job there" "live there, don't come back to Malaysia", etc. In fact, the entire video could be my story too. It's something hard to explain/articulate but this video does it so well. It's inspiring. Thanks for making it Jinnyboy :)

4 years on, and this video still rings very true today, In this age of uncertainty, with COVID wreaking havoc on everyone's plans to travel back to our dearest home, Malaysia, and families being apart for more than 5 months and counting, with no end in sight, watching this video again gives a whole new level of sadness. In addition, with so much of bickering and "frog-jumping" from the politicians "who are doing this for the Rakyat" (so to speak), I wish that we have many of such simple Nasi Lemak stall, who has done a whole lot more in uniting us as a nation than the politicians who seems hell bent on dividing us. Just to end on a positive note, I wish and pray that this whole situation would end, and families will be reunited once more, and for all races to bond over our favourite food of all, Nasi Lemak!

I 50% agree with your video about continuing family bussines. My reason is if you study and work in other country for so long, sometimes your way of thinking changes and different from the rest of your fellow countymen. You may not enjoy working with them because their work ethique is different. But if you can compromise and tolerate certain things, I believe working in your own country is nicer. On the other hand, I totally agree about being friendly with your fellow countrymen regardless of their race, skin color, or religion. The difference is always there, instead of fighting, we should united as one nation.

As long as we know how to cook nasi lemak, we can still have the best nasi lemak anywhere... even the coldest part of the world. Important we carry on bringing the friendly and caring heart of the Malaysian who grew up in the 70s. Once gone forward, never look back. Am glad my ancestors never look bak when they came to Malaysia. As my family look to better shores, i pray that they too will not look back.

With the experience of studying abroad, and just back recently, I have to say, as a chinese, the food I most was looking forward to was NASI LEMAK! yeah its somehow odd for those havent experience this(Studying abroad for a lengthy time) but I'm sure many Malaysians (Malay, Indian or chinese) will agree with me... we somehow miss nasi lemak more than our own race's dishes first... I guess that's the true beauty of Malaysians, we love and are proud with our food! and of course also when we look each other as Malaysians instead of different races like how its been very well portrayed in this video. Selamat Merdeka my fellow MALAYSIANS!
@jasm123419958 жыл бұрын
I get it, but Adam basically just threw away his (assumed valuable) German degree! Not just all that scholarship money he earned that the government or some company paid for, all his hard work, the effort gone to move all the way across the world into an unfamiliar town and culture, just went down the drain to sell nasi lemak. It's great if he's happy, but if he were a different person, someone who is shy or unsociable unlike his dad, that's a horrible life to choose. I'm just saying this video misses the fact that you should also take yourself and your wellbeing into account when making big life decisions.
@jasm123419958 жыл бұрын
Sue Anne Totally agree! I guess there's nothing more they could have done to show the full picture. They'd need a whole series or movie for that.
@MikeshoutsVideos8 жыл бұрын
They made sacrifices and we return in kind. That's the way how things work. Yes. We have dreams, but we are also people of circumstances. They said we have choices. Yes, we do, but the thing is, not all people can realize their dreams because they sacrifice for what's they valued most. From there, the next generation learns and they practice the same and it goes on and on and on...
@jasm123419958 жыл бұрын
+Mikeshouts Well if whoever is concerned is okay with throwing away all their hardwork put into trying to achieve their dream, I'm in no position to judge. Similarly, if it's the opposite and the person in question isn't going to do all that just to go home and sell nasi lemak to preserve the family legacy, they shouldn't be judged, ridiculed or punished for it. I know for a fact that if my parents told me to go home to run the family business, I'd have to decline. Personally, I can't do what my parents do, I wouldn't live up to their expectations, there's a good chance I'll just drive the business to the ground anyway. I am not my parents, so much so that I sometimes wonder if I'm adopted. Furthermore, I've worked long and hard to make a mark in the world on my own. I'm not saying everyone should leave their parents behind and completely drop everything they ask of you. They have of course done everything in their power to make us who we are and we should show our gratitude however possible. I just disagree with the idea that you should drop everything you've ever hoped to achieve just to please your parents, and that you should expect that of your kids. Our generation and the generations that will come are people too, with dreams and aspirations and plans. To expect us to ignore that is to take away a big part of what makes us human.
@al1mrann8427 жыл бұрын
the thing is, if we pursued our dreams, we get carried away sometimes and cant spend time with our parents. when they are gone, it will make us think about our decisions in the past.but hey, who am i to judge. it is just my opinion. thanks.

To me, this video showcases the culture and values ingrained in us malaysians. I also love the fact that his friends comes from different backgrounds. And how people in malaysia adopt different culture and languages just so we can communicate with each other better. I hope the future generations will continue to blur the lines between races and only see fellow malaysians as malaysians and overcome whatever barrier that's stopping us from achieving unity and better future.

Favourite part of the video, starting from 8:58 when he talked about his dad. It's so heart-warming to see how food can unite us Malaysians. Thank you for such a beautiful piece, JinnyboyTV. Continue to inspire and speak the minds of us Malaysians. Happy 59th Birthday, Malaysia.

Just remembered how good short film was. Recently watched/listened to the JTV hangouts with Tata and Jin mentioned this. And I have to say, Jin was quite right when he said he wanted to make the audience wonder what happens next during the ending.
