In my home we have a big open plan kitchen and 'chill out TV space' but we have sliding doors that can be closed when someone wants to watch TV and somebody else is working away on their school work in the kitchen. I felt like it was the best of both worlds. I have the open plan and I also have two separate rooms. Lovely plan. It's very cleverly thought out!

Highly recommend a door for that living room. It's nice to be able to reduce noise, and you or your husband or kids may want some more private alone time occasionally

Maybe a french door type of thing so it still feels open but can also be closed off for noise purposes and other things

Yep, or even a cavity slider, so no one need know the door exists unless it's in use

I like the slider idea! Sometimes an actual door can just feel too closed off or like it's taking up too much space. We just made and installed a DIY barn door at our house! I'm loving it because it's a cool backdrop, and really adds something to the house but it's out of the way.

Hey Ash, don't mean to be a weirdo at all and I hope you don't mind me making suggestions! Just had a further look at the plans online because I love all things real estate (reno's, building etc). I noticed that rooms 3 & 4 have the doorway in line with the wardrobe doors rather than being in line with the wardrobe interior wall. The rooms would be that little more spacious if you brought them back into the hallway/living space that way there is a little pocket for the door to open up into instead of going further into the room and possibly limiting furniture choices. Seems odd that the plan doesn't do this in the first place but maybe I'm overlooking some other factors. Again, hope you don't mind me making a suggestion :)

Yay so exciting!! I work for a builder definitely put doors on the family room, because you would hate to hear the tv from the living room whilst your trying to watch tv in the family room, also cheaper heating and cooling bills because you aren't heating/cooling the entire downstairs space, if that makes sense :)

Oh this house plan looks so gorgeous. It's almost exactly like my dream house! Personally, I would keep the 'kids lounge' as an arch way and the other lounge room as a separate room completely with a wall and door. I feel that would be cozier, especially in the cold winter. Then again, I live in England where it's freezing compared to you guys aha! Either way, it sounds gorgeous and I can't wait to see the designs of each room. This reminds me so much of Ellie and Jared Mecham's process. (They're also on KZbin and just moved into their custom built property this week! :) )

Them bedrooms would be too small for teens, I have a small room and I'm 13 and we have too move as they isn't enough space, let Heidi have the biggest room if you do move in as girls have more stuff as teens x

Oh YAYYY! I hope it all works out for you! we're currently building as well! it looks like such a beautiful home! I think youll love the placement of the laundry! I know when im home pottering and cleaning or cooking Im always in and out of the laundry doing loads, putting them in the dryer, hanging them out etc and to have it very central and close to the kitchen is ideal! ours is going right at the back of the house away from everything and thats something I would have changed!! ' Love the layout of your ensuite! and glad to see a door on the toilet! haha! when we were looking at floor plans I saw all these ensuites and no door on the toilet, I just kept thinking imagine one of you doing some smelly business in there while the others laying in bed! hahahah

Hey Ash, love the floor plan! We built our house a few years ago - we were so those people who bought a slab for the boys on a Friday afternoon as thanks haha. Have you thought about a laundry chute in your WIL upstairs? I'm not sure if it lines up with your laundry but a laundry chute would save your life and make putting their clothes in the laundry a fun chore for the kids?

I completely agree with a laundry chute! My parents have one in their linen cupboard that lines up downstairs with the laundry cupboard. It's great that all the clothes go straight down and you don't have any hampers in bathrooms and bedrooms.

Hey pretty, there is no way that anyone could figure out where we lived based off the floor plan luckily. If I was showing what the front facade was going to be with the colour scheme and our selection of materials (ie cladding, rendering, face brick etc) then that would be a different story as people could identify where we lived based off the front of our home but posting the floor plan is totally safe :) Thanks so much for the concern though, it warms my heart to know that you care about our safety

Hey Ash and everyone, I am really sorry if I hurt you in anyway but here in PAkistan the children; 95% of the boys live with their parents even after they get married. Like they support their parents and have their children and wife. Like we have big joint families here where boys live along with other brothers and their own families too. It's rare when boys live separately and it's somewhat considered weird here if not, unacceptable. I am really sorry if anyone minded. But obviously the west and east have different cultures and I respect that💗 Girls on the other hand ofcourse get married and live with their husbands and their parents- 😃
