Hello Doug. It was so refreshing to finally (after seemingly endless hours of searching) find a simple walk-through on a very basic level of recording a single acoustic guitar. Almost every other video I have found is for multiple guitars with/without drum tacks and the like. For those of us just beginning recording, we need the "basics" that you demonstrated here. The only "omission" I could find was in only mentioning "adding a little compression" at the end (about marker 17:40) by running through an "Isotope Ozone" mastering plug-in. If you could have instead also included a few seconds of actually compressing a signal (about the same length as your EQ section), we could have picked up on that basic concept as well. I'll go off now in search of that last recording (compression) concept. All in all, a great video. As "the Stranger" said in the Big Lebowski, "I like your style, Dude". Hee hee.

Wish this had been out when I started. By far the best free information on the internet. Great job, Doug!

Excellent! As a subscriber I always look forward to your next video advice. I really appreciate that you actually played something in the video, to demonstrate what is possible - too many times information videos are just talk, and no action.

Incredibly informative! Thank you so much. I'm quite familiar with the basics of tracking, having been paying for studio time for the last ten years, but I just assembled a small home recording setup and bought Logic and have been trying to learn how to do the most possible that I can do with it, and this really showed me some awesome stuff!

nice, but home recording videos tend to miss the more important aspect I think they tend to not talk about the room noise. most home recorders don't have a soundproof or soundtreated room like the one he sits in. I would like to know what are good enviroments to record acoustic guitar in, and also vocals. What should we be aware of. Because I think my records are getting ruined because I get way to much room noise. but other that. thanks for the lesson haha.

I like the mic centering tool on the screen. I wonder what software he's using...Ah, Logic on mAC.

Less is more. Great job. Maybe a comment as to which microphone set-up you used; crossed or spaced?

Very helpful video, thanks! Does anyone know what that nifty tool is called that Doug uses to balance the mics' signals? I've been googling around quite a bit, but not knowing what it's called makes that a bit difficult.

Figured it out I think. It's called a Goniometer and Hofa Plugins offers one for free: hofa-plugins.de/en/plugins/4u/

It's inside Logic. "MultiMeter">>"Goniometer"

everything I try to record ends up having a small waveform and sounds too quiet. Can you think of any reason why this happens? The mics are less than a foot away from my source and I am positive I am pointing the front of the mics towards it. I don't think its the recording environment either, because 'm just trying to record in my bedroom. I have my recording volume set all the way up to zero dB and my phantom power is on. I even tried turning up the gain, but that didn't help much. I am using MXL 603S condenser mics through my Scarlett 18i20 interface. Abelton live 9 is my DAW

Silly me. I thought a video titled Home Recording Setup would be about setting up home recording -- rather than mic placement and editing. It is well done for what it is, but I was hoping for advice regarding equipment to get the sounds into one's computer,

Can anyone tell me where can I get that mic level meter? I last so much time trying to pair the level of my stereo mics...
