ok. i get it. please forgive the dumb comment!

Your good! But in case you were still wondering, it gives clearance for electrical boxes as well as space to run the wires.

Thanks for the super cool video. Is there a reason why one may use a furring strip (1X 3) instead of a stud (1 X 4) to frame their basement? If I use a furring strip, can I install the drywall directly on top of it? Or something else is required between the strip and the drywall?
@WhatTheFlipShow2 жыл бұрын
Stud would be a 2x4 and add a lot of unnecessary thickness and be more difficult to attach than the 1x3 and Sheetrock can be installed directly over the furring strips.
@ajeyagupta51832 жыл бұрын
@@WhatTheFlipShow thanks for your prompt reply. One of the concerns with furring strips I have is the fact that Ill be drilling screws (plenty of them) directly in the basement concrete wall which forms the house foundation. Do you know if this is an acceptable practice or if this is somethjng that may cause structural damage to the house?
@WhatTheFlipShow2 жыл бұрын
It is acceptable and many people finish their basements this way. Just make sure the basement is waterproofed and water doesn’t leach through the concrete. And of course use masonry screws such as tapcons to fasten furring strips to wall.

Why would I use furring strips instead of framing out a wall and using proper insulation and vapor barriers in a basement?
@WhatTheFlipShow Жыл бұрын
It’s not a basement it’s above grade, the first floor of the house was built of block. The block itself is insulated with granular fill and it’s also insulated between the brick and block. So adding 2x4s would make the space smaller with no structural benefit as the furring strips receive adequate support for the shiplap by being attached to the block.
@aliwantsahouse Жыл бұрын
@@WhatTheFlipShow I hear you but how are you supposed to install outlets and wiring? The outlets will pop out of the wall and wiring will be squashed.
@aliwantsahouse Жыл бұрын
Also, not bothered about losing 8 inches.
@WhatTheFlipShow Жыл бұрын
In the video we show you how to make a grid system with furring strips to allow space for outlets.
@WhatTheFlipShow Жыл бұрын
And if space is not an issue building out the wall with traditional framing is a great option. This video is for people who want to use Furring strips, as they are easier to install since they can be directly attached to the block but 2x4s walls need to be built with a top plate, and a sole plate, which is more money and time but is the most common way of building walls.

How long should the tapcons or nails be going into the cement or Cindervrick basement wall?
@WhatTheFlipShow2 жыл бұрын
The tapcon generally goes a Minimum of 1” and maximum 1 3/4” in the concrete. So if you have a 2x4 that is 1 1/2” thick and you went the minimum 1” to maximum 1 3/4” into the concrete you would need a 2 1/2” to 3 1/4” tapcon.

What about insulation? How would you do this and put some insulation in?

Spray foam, cellulose, or in our case the blocks were granular filled and met the R value for the area.

I’ve seen a lot of people have luck with those. I usually use the “spring” tip sinkers but for whatever reason the cut nails seem to work best in this block.

Stop trying so hard to "sound" or look good, just give good info and the production/editing doesn't matter.

Thanks for checking out the video and commenting! But look, at the end of the day we put vlog in the title. There are a million tutorial channels on KZbin, that’s not us, we want to make videos we like that are also entertaining. If that’s not your style you don’t have to watch, either way we appreciate the feedback 🙏
@mrmustaine3 жыл бұрын
production and editing absolutely matter. go look at the analytics for a video on a small channel with a catchy name, or even one with solid content, but edited and filmed poorly. Check the "watch time," and I guarantee that most people watch for 20 seconds or less. Whether or not its true, a lot of viewers will see the poor quality and immediately assume the content is crap. Good quality, keeping people entertained and also providing useful info is a fucking crazy delicate balancing act. Sure, there are exceptions to the rule, and sometimes random videos go viral. But gradually cultivating and maintaining a solid fanbase that wants to watch your videos in full is wayyy better than one video going viral, and ending up with a million subs who dont watch your shit.

I really appreciate the information I got from the video. I don’t mean to be to critical but you have to admit there’s a lot of BS in this video. Maybe 50% real content and 50% BS. I don’t know if I’m supposed to put adhesive on the furring strips or not because you made it sound like a joke. Again I don’t want to be Debbie downer but come on guys.
