Let’s be honest here. Pam and Jeff are the protagonists of this movie. They’re just two parents who need money in order to keep their house just so that they and their kids could have a place to live. As a result of that, you feel more emotion for THEM instead of the main character, Max, you know, the kid who’s home alone, THE ONE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ROOTING FOR? Unlike other films, in which the burglars more or less deserved what they got (First film, Wet Bandits tried to rob Kevin’s house, second film, the Sticky Bandits try to steal charity money meant to got to kids who desperately need it in a hospital, third film, four terrorists try to steal a chip that controls a missile for a North Korean terrorist organization, fourth film, Marv and his wife try to get revenge on Kevin, fifth film, three art thieves try to break into a house to steal a valuable painting and try to kill anyone who gets in their way), where whenever the robbers fall for the traps, it’s funny, here… it’s not funny. Especially when Pam starts CRYING over the fact that their kids will be forced to live on the streets just because they can’t pay their debts. This film kind of reminds me of the SpongeBob episode, One Coarse Meal. In that episode, Mr. Krabs tries to terrorize Plankton into committing suicide so that Plankton will no longer try to steal the Krabby Patty formula. Ignoring all the other major things the episode does wrong, this episode basically is saying, “It doesn’t matter what Mr. Krabs is doing here, he’s the hero, Plankton’s the villain, so if Mr. Krabs wants to drive him to suicide, that’s OK because he's the hero!” The fact is this idea DOES NOT WORK if you feel sorrier for the supposed “antagonist” of the story rather than the “protagonist”. As for Max, the main character, he’s overall pretty bland and lacks the charm of Kevin, or Alex from the first three films. Heck, even though 4 and 5 are hated by a lot of people, at least THERE they made it clear that the kid is the protagonist, and the bandits are the villains. I guess they wanted to mix things up with this film to have it stand out from the previous films, like having the villains be good because it’s Christmas and the important thing is family and all that, but the premise is way too mean spirited, and having Pam and Jeff suffering through the traps, while they are ALREADY SUFFERING FROM LOSING THEIR HOUSE AND NOT HAVING MONEY TO FEED THEIR KIDS is overall just way too depressing for me to laugh at.

That’s the big problem with Home Sweet Home Alone. They made the villains sympathetic, which means you can’t and don’t want to laugh at their pain and misery. With guys like Harry and Marv you can laugh at them getting all torn up because they have ill intentions breaking into the McCallister’s house. The McKenzies, like you said, just want the doll that was stolen from them.
@foxteen87212 жыл бұрын
Exactly. You can’t just make a set of violent traps and expect them to be funny. There needs to be relevance as to what makes them humorous. Harry and Marv’s suffering was funny because they got what they deserve - and what made us forget how painful they must be was their over the top screaming and yelling. As for Alice, Beaupre, Unger and Jernigan, the pain they suffer was funny because they were evil dangerous spies working for North Korea. Pam and Jeff’s reactions were realistic because of how sympathetic they are.

Instead of this, the could've done a regular series simply called "Never Alone." After Kevin's latest encounter with Harry and Marv, Kevin threatened to call CPS on his parents for neglecting him twice, which scares them to death because they fear Kevin could be in an even worse household. Vowing to be better parents, Kevin later goes to college without incident and gets a degree in Law. Now a district attorney, he notices that kids around the neighborhood have neglectful parents. Kevin takes them under his wing and they form a neighborhood watch, vowing to booby trap the houses if they hear news about criminals on their radios. With Harry and Marv rotting away in prison, they get vengeance by recruiting burglars who are out on parole to hit those houses while the parents are away.

1:30 I think that would be at least a little deadly worst case, and Ariel, a punctured stomach so 0.75 deaths for her. 2:00 burnt feet 0 death. 2:09 no way is he surviving that 1 death. 2:34 most likely a broken nose. 3:27 Ariel sent flying back 1 death. 3:46 hits a tree at high-speed 0.25 death. 4:09 almost gets hit by an icicle 0.5 death.

Spoilers: Okay to be fair on the kid's behalf, he thought the mother and father characters were real crooks that were trying to kidnap him the whole time. So, he did technically have every single right to self-defend himself. He didn't know that they were just trying to get the priceless doll from him, which he actually never even took from them in the first place. But I agree, this movie would've been better if they used real villainous crooks instead of this couple in need.
@foxteen87212 жыл бұрын
You’re right what you say. But they tried to get him to let them explain but he carried on as if he wanted to set the traps off deliberately. Kevin even asked the Wet Bandits halfway through the battle if they give up.
@jordan16502 жыл бұрын
@@foxteen8721 Well, that's mainly because the kid thought that they were trying to lie to him to make him let his guard down, so that they would have better chances of capturing him, which he wasn't letting them pull off.
@foxteen87212 жыл бұрын
@@jordan1650 That's relevant, I'm probably saying that because of how unlikeable Max is. But I guess it's the writing that's responsible for the failure of this battle. Like you said, we know the story of these two people who made a simple mistake and to see them suffer agony is just upsetting. The Wet Bandits' suffering was funny because they were evil men who were getting what they deserve. It's ludicrous how the writers didn't even understand that.

Even if they were bad it still would have failed. Max is already an unlikeable kid from the very first scene.

This honestly makes me wanna cry the couple did nothing to deserve any of this. In all the other Home Alone movies Especially 1,2 and 4 these were people who deserved it for trying to rob steal kidnap and even hurt a kid. But this couple had no intentions to do any of this all they wanted was to get back an old expensive doll for their kids. They even tried to talk to him but nope he just kept on at it with these abusive traps. No Laughing Moments on this 😥😢😡.

I mean it’s an interesting idea to flip things around and make the robbers/people breaking and entering sympathetic. But the film went too far in that direction so all this is just needlessly cruel to two parents in dire straits. The film should have made them selfish but semi-likable criminals in debt to a mob boss and they’re breaking into the house to steal things to pay off their debt for less altruistic reasons but by the end the mob boss gets involved/caught in the traps too and arrested and the duo learn their lesson and just give up on crime all together

If you want to watch a better Christmas special on Disney+, then watch The Santa Clauses because they do a better job at bringing back classic characters like Charlie and Bernard. Plus, they kinda use a little bit of fan content, too, and it's very funny.

I just saw the movie on Disney+, and to be completely honest it’s not as bad as I thought it would be! I think it is kind of boring but also better than the last few movies! Here are the reasons why I like it and think it’s better than Home Alone 3, 4, and 5… 1. The house is full of loads of people and they go on a Vacation like in the original Home Alone 2. They’ve recreated the nail scene, only except on the finger instead of the foot this time 3. There are only 2 people who break into the house which makes the movie more original 4. Max is actually alone and doesn’t have backup living with him, which also makes the movie more original
